Scott stood in front of the grave. Jean Grey might rise again, but he was tired. Tired of grieving. Part of him would always love her, but he wanted her to rest, in peace. No more fighting, no more life and death, just peace.
"It must be getting rather tedious, Scott dear. These reruns of your grief."
It wasn't funny, and he told Emma that. His eyes were opened. Nothing they did makes a difference, and she wanted to reopen the school. Inspire a new generation of gifted students to greatness.
But he was tired.
"Imagine what we can do for one another. Don't you want to inherit the earth?" Emma was persistent.
And she was right. He did want to be with her. He did want to inherit the earth. He took her face between his hands and kissed her. Time lost meaning....
"Scott?"
They were walking back from the grave,, "Its all right, Emma, I just.."
"We're not doing anything wrong, Scott. Jean's gone, and there's nothing bad about what we did, before or now."
"I know," He replied. "I feel a bit uneasy with everyone coming, for Jean's memorial."
"Paying your respects?" and there was Hank, in his blue, furry kitty-like glory. Scott was still getting used to the newer, feral look for his old friend. Emma was still persistent, about wanting to reopen the school. He admired her passion, but he desperately wanted to move on. He wanted someone else to run the operation. The argument made him tired.
He wanted to start a new life. With someone. With her.
"We deserve some time for each other, a life away from all this. And I deserve some time for a life..a life..a life with someone I care for."
"Someone you..."someone" you..."
He could see the hurt in her eyes, in the way her hand shook as she let go of his. Leave it to him to screw this up.
"There are things more important than a life with someone, Scott."
He would come to terms with that. In his heart he knew she was right. He just hoped he'd be able to do those important things with her.
