Who: John and Glimmer When: Friday 15th? Where: Glimmer’s place What: Spending time together Rating: PG? Status: Complete when posted
So far John had escaped the inexplicable singing and dancing that seemed to be effecting the OC. Honestly this place never seemed to catch a break. He’d text Glimmer earlier that day to make sure she would be home and been told he could stay the night, he’d been doing that more often recently. He found he slept better and the dreams didn’t bother him as much but also it got him out of the house where he de-activated machine sister was sitting in the basement.
Heading to the door he raised his hand to knock but before he could the door swung open and Faye all but ran into him. “Oh sorry John” she grinned at him, “I’m late for work” she explained.
“Do you want a lift?” he offered politely, he liked Glimmer’s sister and knew she did work a lot of hours.
“Oh John, you are so sweet” she teased him, ruffling his hair, “Thanks but I’ll be fine. Go on through Vika’s waiting for you” and with that she walk-ran down the corridor.
Entering the apartment he shut the door behind himself, “Glim, I’m here” he called out so he didn’t surprise her too much.
Glimmer liked to think not much surprised her or at least not any so much so that she couldn't handle it, but this was different. This wasn't odd dreams or even a town that looked like giant mushrooms... It was music. It was uncontrollable too. It was like being stuck on a musical in a sense the urge couldn't be controlled.
She sighed but waiting for John to find her. He knew where her room was well enough and knew that was where to find her. For now she was going to keep her mouth shut. Instead she simply waved hello than risk breaking out in a song about hellos.
He did know where to find her and headed straight to her room, smiling as he saw her. Dropping his bag down by the door he made his way over to her, leaning down to kiss her. “Hey beautiful” he said, sitting next to her, “You okay?”
Glimmer happily returned his kiss and gave him a nod and a smile. “Yep.” That was about all she could get out but the urge was there. The urge to start singing some sappy love song. There were many that jumped right to her mind and they were all as embarrassing as the next. John, who was completely ignorant of his girlfriends musical inclinations, pulled her closer to him and kissed her neck. “Missed you” he told her hugging her close before leaning his chin on her shoulder. “So wanna do anything in particular today?” he asked her.
Glimmer snuggled closer to him. “Hm... No?” She said quickly before anything else could slip out but the song was already bubbling up inside of her. It was corny and cheesy but it was sweet as well. There was only so long she could put off the song and the dance. It was like being caught in some stupid TV show where all people did was sing.
John chuckled, “Is that a question?” he teased, “Awfully quiet today aren’t you” he stroked one hand up her side keeping the other one wrapped around her.
She shrugged her shoulders. It hadn't been meant as one. "Better than singing, yes?" The place had been completely odd lately.
John couldn’t held the wide smile spreading across his face, “Glimmer are you saying you’re under this singing spell thing too?” he teased her, “Is there a wonderfully sappy love song just waiting to escape you?” he tickled her sides a little.
She gave him a look that clearly said maybe as she slapped his hands away so he couldn’t tickle her. It wasn’t that hard to semi-ignore the urges if she could sit in a corner by herself and pretend she didn’t have some song bouncing around in her head. Then again she had a feeling John wasn’t going to leave it be until she did sing something. At least they would get a good laugh out of it later.
He laughed as she batted his hands away, John was definitely not going to leave it alone, he wanted to hear what song she had brimming inside. “Come on Glim, sing to me” he whispered.
She glared at him but stopped fighting the urge. There was no way she was ever going to live this one down and maybe because she was talking Motown in the record store with that guy it was on her mind and that was what came to her:
When you need a hand to hold/ Darling, reach out/ Reach out, for me/ I'll be there to love and comfort you/ I'll be there with the love I'll see you through/ I'll be there to love and comfort you/ I'll be there to with the love I'll see you through
John simply smiled at her when she glared and settled in to watch her sing to him, her voice was quite sweet and he enjoyed listening. He didn’t listen to much motown but he knew the song and was pleased with the choice.
“Get up,” she told him as she reached for his hand and pulled him to his feet. If they were going to sing, or she was anyhow, they could dance or do something silly. Mine as well have fun if it was going to happen anyhow. That was after she had taken his cellphone away from him. He happily gave her his hand and got to his feet, giving her an exaggerated pout as she took his cellphone from him before taking her into his arms. He had no trouble enjoying this particular kind of silliness, in fact his heavy heart probably needed it.
Glimmer tossed his phone onto the bed along with her own so there would be nothing incriminating later. Instead she focused more on the moment at hand and the lightness of it all. “No singing from you either? I cannot do all the singing.” She teased lightly as she relaxed into his embrace.
“You really don’t want to hear me sing” he told her, “Seriously. You have a pretty voice, I start singing and your neighbours are going to think something is dying in here” he smiled wryly as he swayed them together.
“Oh, haha...” She said with a laugh. “You are being generous I cannot sing a note but it just bubbles up once in awhile. It is kinda funny. Like being stuck in one of those forsaken musical things. God. Annoying.”
“Well I think you sound nice” John assured her honestly, “I’m sure it won’t last long. But I promise as long as it does you can sing at me and I won’t tease you...too much”
“As long as I serenade you every night you mean,” it really was amusing and made her want to burst into laughter and song but she wasn’t sure what the song was in her head. She didn’t know any that really fit their crazy situation.
“Can I really be blamed for wanting my incredible girlfriend to serenade me?” John replied, “I’m a pretty lucky guy” he told her placing a quick kiss on her lips.
Glimmer returned the kiss lightly. “Well I think you have that a bit backwards, you’re supposed to be serenading me.” Though she supposed that was a bit overdone and their dates and such were much more original. “Why do you have anything specific you would like to hear since you know, I’m in the mood for a song or two.”
“Ah but you know we aren’t the sort of people to conform to normality” he replied with a cheeky smile, “Oh, you’re taking requests? Well, let me think”
She gave him a smirk. “Just for you I am. Anyone else I would tell them to get lost or something.” Probably a little more forcefully than that too.
Oh John knew it would be a lot more forceful than that, and he appreciated it too. So much that he would fight embarrassment and start her off, after all it was hardly fair to make her suffer alone.
”What if I told you it was all meant to be, Would you believe me, would you agree? It’s almost that feeling we met before So tell me that you don’t think I’m crazy When I tell you love has come here and now”
“Aw, you’re not that bad.” She admitted with a laugh. Neither one of them were going to win any singing contests but they wouldn’t be the worse either. “It is sweet. Though I don’t want to spend all weekend singing. My voice would get tired.”
John laughed, “Now you’re being generous” he told her, “But I appreciate it” he added with a smile.
“We can’t have your voice getting tired can we” he said pulling her closer, “I’m sure we can think of other things to do” he smiled against her skin as he kissed her neck.
“I say other things will be far more productive than arguing who has the worse voice.” Glimmer pointed out with a grin.
“I’m sure we can come up with something more productive and more fun” John replied with a grin of his own.
“I am sure we can.” She said with a laugh. “Though I don’t know my singing skills are pretty fun.” She told him with another grin. “Is everyone singing outside too?” She hadn’t bothered to leave the house during all this.
“That they are” he agreed smiling.
He nodded, “Yeah quite a lot” he told her, “On the net too. I’ve seen and heard so many lyrics recently” It really was like living in a musical.
“So much so you are sure you never want to hear another song or read another set of lyrics again right?” She knew she was and it was why she had avoided the net for a while.
John chuckled, “Well I don’t know, now I’ve been serenaded maybe it’s not so bad after all”
