Jellybeans, strawberries and teaching phones to swear...

Faye was very much looking forward to her and Vala’s little trip, it had been a while since she’d driven though she was a confident driver. Sadly she just couldn’t afford one. In fact the last one she had she’d lost through gambling, which she was determined not to do this time. She’d been steering clear of poker games and refused to put herself or Glimmer through anymore upheaval because she couldn’t stop herself from having a flutter.

Making her way up the path to Vala’s door she dumped her small bag on the porch before knocking and waiting for her friend to answer. It was a beautiful day for driving.

Vala grinned as she heard the knock on her front door and rushed up to it and opened it. “Hey! Come on in! I just need to grab my jacket and then I’ll be ready,” she smiled, leading the way back into the house and heading to the coat rack under the stairs.

Faye grinned back as Vala went to grab her coat, “And here’s me thinking I’d be late” she teased as she waited for her friend, “I warn you, I haven’t driven in a while” though Faye was a confident driver so she wasn’t actually worried at all.

“That’s what insurance is for,” she smiled, taking her jacket off the hook and turning back. “Right, shall I introduce you to the beast?” she joked with a raised eyebrow and hand on her hip..

Faye chuckled, “I love a woman who’s prepared” she winked before nodding, “Lead me to it” she gestured for Vala to lead the way.

Vala grabbed her bag from beside the stairs as she laughed and headed out the door.

Faye followed behind, wondering what sort of car Vala had brought - despite not being able to drive it.

Pressing the button on her clicker, the garage door rose up as they approached it. Vala slid her glasses on in the sunshine and stood proudly in front of the open garage. “Et voila,” Vala announced proudly.

“Oh my god” Faye breathed as she took in the beauty that stood in front of her, “I think I’m in love”

“Oh yes, now you see why I had to buy it,” Vala grinned and unlocked the car on the key fob. “Now I just have to get my full US license and I’m well away!” She held out the keys for Faye to take.

“Oh I definitely see” Faye agreed, “With a car like this I’d say you have the motivation to do that” she grinned as she took the keys with a wide smile.

“It’s coming, just waiting for my international driving license to come through and then I can drive it myself,” Vala dropped her bag behind the passenger seat. “But I didn’t want to drive while my license is with the authorities,” she smiled at Faye. “Just let me lock up and we can go,” she trotted around the car and out the garage before she remembered something and popping her head round the door. “You want something to drink?”

“Yeah best not to” Faye agreed, “And it means I get a chance to drive this beautiful creature” she smiled as she settled into the seat and ran her hand reverently over the steering wheel and dash.

“Sure, drink for the journey sounds good. If you have soda or anything that would be great” she replied.

“Ok, be right back,” Vala went to the kitchen and grabbed two bottles of diet coke, turning to do a quick check over whether she had forgotten anything, she grabbed her iPod, nodded to herself and locked up the house, grabbing her handbag on the way out the door. She slipped into the passenger seat next to Faye, “Right, let’s go!” She grinned and plugged in her iPod, picking some good driving music

Faye slipped her sunglasses on before starting the car, “San Fran here we come” she grinned as she slipped the beautiful vehicle out of the garage and smoothly onto the road.

Vala clicked the fob for the garage door as they pulled onto the road. “Ooo! And look! I got us some travelling treats!” Vala rootled around her handbag and pulled out a punnet of large, juicy red strawberries.

“I love you” Faye grinned, “Just gonna put that out there so you know” she teased. Strawberries were by far the most superior fruit though Faye didn’t splurge on buying them that often. She did pinch the occasional one from the supply at work when they had them in for cocktails though.

“I try,” Vala tried to sound like it was hard work, grinning as she placed them to one side. “Ooo! And check these out!” She dug into her handbag and pulled out a tube of Jelly Belly jellybeans, presenting them with a huge grin.

Faye looked over at the tube Vala was holding and grinned before she returned her attention to the road, “You know I do believe we have the makings of the best road trip ever right here” she informed her friend.

Vala chuckled, putting the tube of jellybeans in the passenger door pocket and taking their drinks bottles out of her bag to put them in the two cup holders in the centre console. Vala settled back into the seat before teasing her friend with a grin, “You know where we’re going, right?”

“Oh roughly” Faye replied, “Maps are overrated, I know most of the way. Roadsigns will help with the rest” she grinned at her friend. She had looked on google maps so had an idea of the route to take.

“Awesome,” Vala adjusted her glasses on her nose. “So magical mystery tour?” she joked with a grin.

“You know they’re the best” Faye replied, “I’ll get us there...eventually” she added wickedly.

“It’s all good, as long as it’s by 3 o’clock tomorrow afternoon,” Vala smiled contentedly, enjoying the sun warming her face. “I don’t want to miss this appointment, believe me, the fabrics this guy has is unbelievable!” Vala gushed, excited to be making contacts on this side of the pond. Hopefully he would end up being a well-used client. “Other than that,” Vala shrugged.

“I’ll get us there by then” Faye assured her, “Even if we go wrong a few times that should be plenty of time” she grinned. “Now bean me and pop on some music would you babe?” she requested.

“Y’know,” Vala leaned forward and picked one of her favourite songs from the iPod, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. “Out of context, that would sound really bad,” she laughed and picked the tube of jelly beans up to examine the flavour list on the side. “Any flavour in particular?”

“Or really good” Faye said winking at her before returning her focus to the road. She was about to answer with ‘anything except vanilla’ when the song started and instead she found herself uncontrollable starting to sing, ’I come home in the morning light, my mother says “When you gonna live your life right?”’

”Oh mother dear we’re not the fortunate ones!” Vala sang out, looking closely at a cream coloured bean with spots on it and trying to match it to the picture. She thought it was caramelised popcorn and popped it in her mouth, happy with the taste it gave. ”And girls just wanna have fun, oh girls just wanna have fun!” she sang with Faye, picking up a bright blue one, shrugging and leaning over to throw it in her friend’s mouth when she was finishing singing.

Ooo, blueberry. Nice. Faye grinned happily at her friend bouncing along to the music a little in her seat, her driving unaffected. ’The phone rings in the middle of the night, my father yells “What you gonna do with your life?” she continued singing.

As they pulled up to some lights to turn left, Vala spotted a pretty attractive man stood on the sidewalk who was a couple of lanes over and grinned at him as she sang out: ”Oh daddy dear, you know you’re still number one! But girls, they wanna have fun!” As they pulled away from the lights, away from the hot guy, Vala blew him a kiss and caught his grin at them before they turned away.

Faye laughed as Vala sang to the hot guy, she blew the car’s horn at him as they sped off.
’Oh girls just wanna have fun, that’s all they really want.... Some fun....’

Vala settled back in her seat, “When the working day is done oh! Girls they wanna have fun!” Turning to look at Faye as they sang together, ”Oh girls just wanna have fun!” She picked out a blue bean from the pot and threw it in her mouth, eyebrows raising at the pleasant taste and she read the tube’s menu, Blueberry....nice,” she thought.

’Girls, they just wanna, wanna have fun, girls, they wanna have... she raised her eyebrow at Vala and indicated the jellybean pot with a smile as they continued singing.

Vala chuckled, “Sorry! How about...” she pulled some out of the pot and checked them against the menu. “Oh! Pina Colada! Open up!” She carefully fed two of the flavour to Faye and continued to sing, pretending to be over-dramatic, ”Some boys take a beautiful girl and hide her away from the rest of the world!”

“Oo nice” Faye said opening her mouth happily, laughing at Vala’s antics. ’I wanna be the one to walk in the sun acting as much as she could whilst driving, ’Oh girls, they wanna have fu-un’

Vala joined in with Faye, ”Oh! Girls just wanna have fun!” She held out some more Pina Colada beans for Faye to take, ”That’s all they really wa-a-a-a-a-a-ant!” She placed another two caramelised popcorn beans in her mouth.

“Some fu-u-u-u-nn” Faye grinned as she took the beans from Vala and popped them into her mouth, still bopping along with the music, “When the working day is done, Oh, girls, They wanna have fu-un. Oh, girls, Just wanna have fun...

Vala sang out loudly, not caring who heard her as the continued on through the city towards the open road. ”They want to have fun! They want to have fun!” She collapsed into a fit of giggles with the end of the song, “Ok, so this is officially the best road trip ever! And we’re not even there yet!”

Faye laughed loudly, “I have to agree” she said, once she could speak again. “Also karaoke night at Always next week, you and I have to enter, we’d blow everybody else away” she informed Vala.

“I’d rather blow your hot, new bartender away...” Vala replied lewdly, picking the green part off a rather large strawberry and taking a bite.

Faye raised her eyebrows at Vala with a wicked smirk on her face, “Oh darlin’ I think that can be arranged” she informed her friend.

Vala threw her head back and chuckled heartily. “Great! So...not gay...well, that’s a relief,” she quipped, handing over a strawberry with no leaves on it.

“Well,” Faye said tilting her head in thought, “Not exclusively” she grinned before taking the strawberry and biting into it.

“Ooo...even better!” Vala raised her eyebrows as a few dirty thoughts crossed her mind involving her hot tub, the bartender, herself and the ripped bouncer from the weekend shifts. She shook her head to rid herself of her thoughts and pulled her Blackberry out of her bag. “I should text Max and see if she’d be up for karaoke one night...”

“Good plan” Faye nodded, “And maybe she’ll have new cupcakes for us to try...” she would actually marry that woman for her baked goods. She had never tasted cupcakes that good before and would happily live on them. Even if her hips may disagree.

“Damnit! Stupid phone!” Vala complained to her phone as she deleted the last word her predictive text had screwed up.

“Having issues?” Faye asked glancing at Vala who was glaring at her phone.

“Yeah, the only problem with having a new phone...” Vala concentrated as she tapped in the actual word she wanted. “Is teaching it how to swear...”

Faye chuckled, “Oh yeah I remember doing that” she replied, “I seem to recall it was happy with fucking but not with fuck. It now knows pretty much all of them. Including some rather unusual ones. It doesn’t hurt to be prepared” she grinned.

“Ok, so our phones are absolutely going to have to talk,” Vala laughed. “Because it sounds like my poor naive cell needs to be brought up to speed!”

“Mine probably knows words that would make yours blush” she joked, knowing in actual fact they were scarily alike in many ways.

“Oh really...” Vala finished sending her text before turning to face Faye, intrigued by the possibilities. “Do tell!”

Faye laughed, “Now now, I can’t give you all my secrets” she gave Vala a wink, “Maybe I’ll tell you a few choice ones on the drive back”

“Lol!” Vala laughed, organising a few more jelly beans in her hand, waiting for Faye to negotiate some tight turns before she popped a couple in her mouth.

Faye happily chewed on some more beans as they drove. The weather, the company and the songs all making for a damn good trip.
