Moira was running late to lunch, having to deal with a medical emergency and then clean up, but eventually she made it to her and Rahne's usual place. She didn't get to see her girl as much as she'd like. But in her line of work she never wanted to see her randomly, either.
Rahne was waiting for Moira when she arrived. She loved having meals with her mother, but the idea that Moira had done something experimental to the point that at could jeopardize her career...did not sit right, and it made Rahne nervous.
She sat down across from Rahne and smiled, "Afternoon lass. I'm sorry I'm late. I had tae report tae surgery. No one famous this time." The coffee here was better thaninferior to her own, but it would have to do. She ordered a sandwich to go with it, "Havin' tae dodge reporters is new, tae."
Rahne smiled at Moira. "I understand. That Stark man, that the on ye operated on in the...unconventional way?" she asked. That would explain the reporters. And made her hope very much that Stark was pleased to be alive and didn't decide to sue Moira or the hospital just because he could.
"Aye..." Moira took a deep breath, "He had a few hours tae live, an' nae more. Shrapnel was movin' taewards his heart." She picked up a napkin and started drawing in it, "Ms. Potts had something he'd invented. I dunnae know what it is except it produces power, but it has magnetic properties. It repelled metal."
Well. That was definitely experimental. Rahne watched Moira's drawing, brows knitting together in interested concentraion. "That's quite a feat. Any idea what he'd originally invented it for?"
"Nae. But when implanted in his chest it stopped the shrapnel cold." She shook her head, "I warned Ms. Potts that we have nae way of knowin' what side-effects there might be, but we bought him some time tae find a better solution."
Moira smiled ruefully, "I tried not tae press her intae it, but the idea excited me. You dunnae get that kind of experience often."
Rahne nodded thoughtfully. "Aye, that's something ye dinnae see everyday." She took a sip of her coffee. "He doing all right now?"
"Seems tae be. He's stable, an' finally woke up." She picked up her own coffee and drank it, wrinkling her nose. Too smooth!
"I didnae even check if she had Power of Attorney," Moira admitted, almost a little sheepishly. "Nae time. It was..unethical of me."
She took another sip, "I'd do it again."
Moira meant it, too. That she'd do it again. In a heartbeat!
Rahne shrugged. "It saved his life."
"For now..." Moira's shoulders sagged a little, "I just really hope that it doesnae do anything tae him, or people around him."
"Aye. Hopefully there'll be no side effects," Rahne said.
"I'll be the first tae study them," Moira replied, with a maniacal grin.
Rahne chuckled. "You'll love that."
Moira's expression grew distant, "Aye...aye, I will."
