Lorna was sitting in a park on a Wednesday afternoon. Alex was with a girl he’d met at work, so she was taking some time to herself after work. It was a beautiful day, she hoped he was enjoying it as much as she was.
She sat on a bench, crocheting a baby blanket for Navi. It was vibrant and had a neat wave design. She hoped Navi would like it.
John was out testing his new powers. And enjoying the cool air. It had been awhile since he had really had the time to enjoy just sitting and being. And adding in flying, invisibility, and his other tricks, and he was definitely finding himself weirded out but not all that much.
He had hit a weirdness height and couldn’t get fussed by more weirdness now. He wasn’t sure if that was good or bad, actually.
He was invisible as he sat on the bench on the opposite side from the woman with the green hair. He was projecting a firm suggestion to keep others from sitting where he was, but made sure not to interfere with her.
Lorna frowned, and kept looking over where John sat. She felt something weird there, but she couldn’t say exactly what. She keep crocheting away, but was obviously distracted.
John faded in then, as he grinned. “Hello, Lorna. Long time no see.” He hadn’t recognized her at first, but now he did.
Lorna giggled. “Oh, hi John! I didn’t know you could do that.” She turned to face him, tucking her hook and yarn away. “What were you doing?”
“It’s a new thing. I was becoming invisible to your visual, aural, and heat feeling senses. Normal senses for humans. You... have some extra ones, don’t you?” John grinned. Seemed like they both had new things.
“Kinda? I honestly think it’s just an improvement on senses I already had. I’m more sensitive to the EM field. I can see colors and auras that I couldn’t before, I can sense disturbances and discrepancies.”
John nodded. “I’m starting to be able to see some of that? And farther away, and tinier things. And through things.” He shook his head. “My life has become weird.”
“It really sounds like it.” Lorna said with a giggle. “Oh, how’s AJ? I haven’t been out to the orchard in a couple weeks, things have been so hectic.”
“She’s good. She’s working on planning things with Big Mac or the business and oh! We’re engaged! Not sure when we’re getting married yet, but soon, probably.” He chuckled. He and AJ had taken their time to get here but now that they were, they wouldn’t waste time.
“Awww. Good for you! Congratulations.” She smiled brightly at John. “You should do it in the fall, when it won’t be so hot.” Which, for Southern California, was November at earliest.
“I dunno what we’re going to do. I think it will be soon, though. ” He paused. “A lot sooner than that.” He winked at her.
Lorna giggled. “Well, if you elope I want pictures.”
John laughed. “Not going to happen. But you’ll be invited. Just a small group.” He smiled at her. “We don’t want a big thing.”
“I totally get that.” Lorna nodded. “Things like that are better when you just invite the people closest to you.”
John nodded. “We want it to be nice, but not huge? I think.” He chuckled. “We talked about some of it and are winging it on the rest.”
“Good luck. I hope it’s awesome for you both.” Lorna smiled, and wondered if she’d ever get married. She wasn’t against it, but she didn’t know if it suited her or not.
John smiled. “It will be, just because it is with her.” He firmly believed it. Applejack was an amazing woman.
“Awww. You’re so sweet, John. AJ’s lucky to have you.” She smiled at him, glad to see things going well for someone for a change. The whole nonsense with most of Alex’s family going into a coma was really bumming her out.
He poked her gently. “Are you okay?”
Lorna’s smile faded a little. “I’m fine, but I’m worried about Alex.”
John nodded. “He’s Alex Summers, yes? Brother to Scott Summers?” He knew Emma and had heard of what was going on. he was worried as well. He had not been able to sense their minds.
“Yeah.” Lorna nodded. “You know Scott?”
“Not exactly.” John smiled warmly. “I’m a friend of Emma’s. We’ve talked a few times.”
“I bet she’s losing her mind.” Lorna felt bad for her. “I’m worried about Scott too, but I’m more worried about everyone left here.”
John nodded. “Makes sense. I hope things get better soon, and that it gets quiet here. We all deserve some quiet for awhile.”
“Amen to that.” Lorna said with a giggle.
FIN.
