Who: Gandalf and Galadriel
What: Just dropping on by. To discuss a certain white council.
When: Today
Where: Galadriel's law office!
Status: Complete
Rating: PG-13 for drug mentions

Gandalf didn't have much occasion to visit a law office, but this was special circumstances, and this was a specific law office. He had a ring on his finger that was very warm, and visions of other worlds dancing through his head. He walked up to the receptionist and rapped on the table, "I'm here to see Galadriel."

The receptionist was unamused by Gandalf's attire and simply raised her eyebrows at him. "Sure you are. You and about ten other people," she replied haughtily. "May I ask what this is regarding?" Might as well find out.

"Something called The White Council," He replied, wishing he had a pipe in his mouth. He leaned on the counter, clearly uninterested in moving. Some things were too vivid to ignore, and he couldn't very well tell people that dreams were a doorway to another world if he wasn't willing to believe that, himself.

"The White Council?" The receptionist replied, looking confused. "Right. Sir, you are going to have to leave the premises. Please don't make me call security."

Gandalf chuckled. The receptionist obviously lacked imagination, so he tried another tact. Remembering something from his dreams, he said, "Ask her about the name Nenya."

It was a gamble, but for a man that liked explosives, it wasn't much of one.

It just so happened that at that moment Galadriel was heading out for lunch and she caught what was going on at the receptionist desk. She heard the name 'Nenya' and found herself gravitating towards the elder man.

"Did you say Nenya?" she asked, her brow furrowed.

"Ah, Galadriel." He tipped his hat to her, "I believe you did hear that." Narya flashed on his finger, "You look stunning."

"Thank you," Galadriel said hesitantly as she tried to figure out her next move. She had to admit that she wanted to speak to this person, but now that she saw him she wasn't so sure.

"Why don't you... follow me into my office?" she said. "It's alright, Jeanne. He's with me," she told the receptionist.

Gandalf twinkled his eyes at Jeanne, and then followed Galadriel into her office. He'd worn his nicest shirt, a silk shirt with palm trees on it. He'd even worn pants instead of shorts, and shoes!

It was mostly out of respect for Galadriel.

Galadriel lead Gandalf into her office and indicated to the sitting area. "Please, make yourself at home," she told him. "Would you like something to drink? Scotch maybe?" But not the good scotch. At least not yet. There was still the possibility that they were both crazy.

And obviously, you don't bring out the good scotch for crazy. Gandalf took a seat, and took his hat off after sitting, "Just water, please. I try to avoid mind-altering substances." Weed doesn't count

He fiddled with the ring on his finger, "What are your impressions of dreams?"

Galadriel raised an eyebrow at the alcohol more than at Gandalf and poured him a glass of water. She made a glass of ice water for herself and handed him the other, sitting down across from him.

"They're just dreams," Galadriel replied. "Or so I thought."

"Most people do," The older man replied, before taking a sip. "Humm... I've always felt that dreams are doorways to other worlds, or other times. Other places. Places where we might other than ourselves. Or perhaps our true selves. Oh, there are ways to attain a state similar to dreams, but they are difficult and sometimes dangerous. Or at least illegal." He chuckled, thinking of Frodo.

Galadriel couldn't help the little smile that flittered across her facial features. She was sure that this man was some kind of hippy. She actually kind of admired that about him. She wished she could have done some of that in her youth, but the world dealt her different cards.

"And you're here because you dreamt about me and about this," Galadriel replied, holding her hand out for Gandalf to inspect the ring on her finger.

He peered at the ring, and nodded his head, "Yes..yes you were wearing that ring. You looked like a fairy. Or a Goddess. A Lady in White with an uncommon power and strength of will. There were others like you, but not like you."

Chuckling, he added, as he held out his own hand and Narya that rested upon it, "You showed me yours, so I shall show you mine."

The super sekrit ring club!

Galadriel couldn't help the chuckle at the way Gandalf described her in his dreams. She felt the same way about herself, but she could also feel the powers of others, stronger beings, around her.

Galadriel took in a deep breath as she set eyes on Narya. "It was Cirdan who gave this ring," she said. "Mine came from Celebrimbor himself." She paused, realizing her words. "There is so much more to these rings than meets the eye, I fear."

"Cirdan, yes. I dreamed about him, and the giving of this ring. I was on some important errand. There were five of us sent...."

Gandalf turned his hand over, and back, looking at the ring, as if trying to decipher it's meaning, "I was wearing this ring, and I stood upon a bridge deep beneath the earth. There was a terrible creature of shadow and fire."

His eyes grew distance, his voice took on a deeper quality, and it seemed as though the sun outside dimmed, "I am a servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the flame of Anor. You cannot pass. The dark fire will not avail you, flame of Udûn. Go back to the Shadow! You cannot pass."

"I held a glittering sword and a staff, and the sword and the creature's red blade clashed. I shattered it's weapon!"

Gandalf continued to be lost in the memory, or the drea, "It stepped upon the bridge. Behind me I could hear my allies, my friends coming to my aide, but they could not stand against this power. I took my staff and I smote the bridge, and sent the creature into the abyss. But it took me with it."

At least, he whispered, "Fly, you fools..."

And then all seemed normal, and he blinked his eyes, stunned.

Galadriel raised an eyebrow at Gandalf as he spoke. She had a vague memory of this particular instance, but not all the details. She had known that Gandalf had fallen into shadow and the Balrog had taken him, but even when she gave that news to the Fellowship she knew he would be okay.

"Yes," she said, her voice soft. "I remember, but I also remember not feeling too concerned about you falling. There was... chance for you yet."

"I do not remember anything after I began to fall," the man replied, thoughtfully. "But I felt no fear for myself. Only acceptance. I understood the fate that awaited me."

He chuckled, "I feared more for my companions."

"For Frodo," Galadriel replied with a nod. She understood the feeling.

"Do you know why we felt it so important to keep Frodo safe?" she asked. She knew the answer, but she wanted to know if Gandalf did too.

Gandalf shook his head, "We discussed someone called the Necromancer at the council, and there was mention of another ring, but Frodo was only in the last dream, the one where I fell."

He hummed to himself, "I cared for him a great deal."

"As did I," Galadriel replied. "Though, I suspect, not as much as you."

Galadriel uncrossed her legs and leaned in closer to Gandalf. "There is another ring, The One Ring, it controls all the other rings.. and the necromancer? His name is Sauron and it is his ring. Frodo was meant to kept it out of Sauron's hands and destroy it. And the ring is here, Gandalf. It's here in Orange County."

"If this was coming from anyone else but you, I'd consider you a kook," Gandalf replied, his expression serious and his tone dark. "The One Ring, yes I recall that at the White Council."

He sat up straighter, "If only I had more insight through these doorways. And I could feel a great power within myself, though one I was ..constrained by."

"I can say the same about you," Galadriel replied with a smirk, but it was quickly replaced by her former dark facial expression.

"That is the power of the Rings," she said with a nod. "It is our duty to protect, but not to rule."

"The question is, what do we do about this?" It was amazing how easily he accepted this. Like it was a mantle that slid onto his shoulders with ease, "What are we?"

"I don't have those answers," Galadriel replied with a shake of her head. "I'm not sure there is anything for us to do at this point. Keep an eye out. Watch. Wait. That's what we do. As for who we are?" She shrugged. "We're the keeper of the rings."

Galadriel raised her eyebrows at Gandalf. Did he just say what she thought he said? He did.

"No, thank you," she replied. "I should be going anyway. I have clients to see," she said. "Thank you for stopping by, Gandalf."

"Even ringkeepers need to relax," He reminded her as he stood, "And who knows what new things we might see. It worked for Frodo. It was a pleasure to talk with you. We may need to keep in contact."

He made his way to the door, conveniently forgetting on his chair a little baggie of the same stuff that had taken Frodo on a trip to Lorien.
