WHO: Cassandra Cain and Alyssa Hamilton
WHAT: A very akward conversation
WHEN: Sunday, March 10th. Afternoon
WHERE: Sex Store in Newport Beach
RATING: PG-13 for talk of sex and sex toys
STATUS: Complete
It had been just over a week now since her injury and Cass was starting to feel a little better. Sure, her shoulder and collarbone still hurt, but it wasn’t half as bad as when it had first happened. Of course she knew that it was going to still take some time to heal and just because it didn’t hurt as much didn’t mean that she could stop wearing the sling. The sling had been extremely troublesome over the course of the last week and prevented her from doing things on her own, but at least she had Jubilee and Laura around to help her with certain things and she was grateful for that.
However, there was one thing that they couldn’t help her with or at least it would get really awkward if they did and that was getting off. Ever since the night her and Logan had fooled around, she hadn’t been able to get it off her mind and with a broken collarbone, it made certain things rather difficult to do, so Violet had suggested she get a vibrator. And that was what had led Cass to the sex store that afternoon. She had tried to talk herself out of it during the whole walk there, but really, if she could go to a strip club then a sex store should be a piece of cake. Right?
Not wanting to be recognized, Cass had donned a pair of sunglasses and pulled her hair up into a high ponytail. There wasn’t really much she could do about the sling, but she hoped that the people that worked there didn’t follow gymnastics. Taking a deep breath, Cass went into the store, hoping that her face wasn’t completely red.
Even if they did, she wasn’t the only young woman in the store. Alyssa Hamilton was behind the counter, smiling and hanging out with her mum’s friend Jerry, hoping that he wouldn’t tell her what they’d been getting up to. Really, she was pumping the man for information to use against her mother, as well as returning a Fleshlight and some gay porn that Damian hadn’t wanted and that she’d already had.
Smiling at the girl that walked in, Alyssa waved. “Oh, hello, do you want any help?”
Cass hadn’t actually expected anyone to offer to help her and she especially hadn’t expected the person to be a girl who looked like she was around Cass’ age, “Ah, no. I’m...I’m fine.” Right, because that sounded like a person who knew exactly what they were doing. Of course she had absolutely no idea what she was doing, because she’d never bought a vibrator before, but the thought of someone helping her just made her blush.
Alyssa grinned, hopping up. She was wearing a cute 40s styled dress that fell to mid-thigh and a pair of heels that looked like saddle shoes. “My mum’s been giving me vibrators and such since I was fourteen. Seriously, I can at least let you know what’s rubbish. I’m Alyssa.”
“I...what?” Cass wasn’t sure if she was referring to how the girl knew what she was there for or what she’d said about her mother; in the end, she decided to go with the first one, “How’d you know what I was here for?” She wondered if vibrators were what most girls came in to buy, so it was easy to figure them out.
“You’re a girl. You want a vibrator, dildo, porn, or knickers. I can help you with all of ‘em. But honestly, what else would a girl come in here for? Porn you can get for free, knickers - they come cheaper and cuter at Victoria’s Secret, so that leaves a vibrator or dildo.” Alyssa grinned. “I’m Nancy Drew, only ... not nearly such a goody goody. Ned’s a twat.”
“So, you work here?” Cass hadn’t expected employees at a sex store to be as helpful as those at any other retail store. “And who’s Ned?” She frowned slightly, brows furrowing behind her sunglasses. She’d never read Nancy Drew, so she had no idea what she was talking about. Not to mention, she was still extremely embarrassed about being there.
“Oh, no, I came by to return some stuff Mum got me, and I got to talking with Mum’s boyfriend.” Alyssa pointed out the guy behind the counter who gave a feeble wave. “And Ned is Nancy Drew’s boyfriend.” Alyssa started to bounce a little, smiling. “You don’t have to be embarrassed.”
“Your mom...” Cass’ brows rose now as she stared at the girl. Her mother had bought her sex stuff? That was definitely not something she’d expected. And not being embarrassed was much easier said than done; she had no idea how this girl could be so at ease in a place like this. “This is my first time in one of these places.” This was turning out to be a very interesting trip.
“They’re gross. Don’t touch more than you have to.” Alyssa shook her head. “Behind the counter it’s okay, but out here, I wouldn’t trust it.” She walked with her toward the back row of toys.
A bit reluctantly, Cass followed Alyssa towards the row of toys, “I’m Cass, by the way.” Normally when she introduced herself, she used her full name, but in a situation like this, she didn’t feel it was the best idea. The last thing she needed was this girl to go on facebook or twitter and say that she’d met Cassandra Cain in a sex store. Cass had already been through enough, what with her spectacular fall at the American Cup. She didn’t need everyone knowing about this too.
“Good to meet you!” Alyssa smiled at her, offering her a hand to shake. Alyssa’s nails were painted a pale pink. “So.” She picked out a cheerful looking vibrator that looked a bit like a bunny. “This one’s good to start with, when you’re figuring out what you like.”
As Cass shook Alyssa’s hand, she actually began to feel relieved that she was being helped by someone close to her age and not some creepy older guy or even worse, left on her own to try and figure things out. When Alyssa showed her the vibrator, Cass’ eyes widened slightly and she had to lift her sunglasses to get a better look and in turn exposing her entire face; something that subconsciously, she hadn’t even realized she’d done. “That’s....interesting.”
“I know, it looks weird. I used to think it was creepy that the sex industry is infantilizing things I’m putting into my vagina, but then I thought that it would be equally odd for things to be uber-realistic.” She couldn’t help but giggle at the mental image of the men in her life reacting to finding one of the “real” looking vibrators in her drawer. Logan would just smirk, but Damian would probably shriek.
Having lifted the sunglasses, Cass’ eyes had begun to adjust to the light in the store, so hesitantly, she decided to remove them completely and hung them from the pocket of her jeans. If Alyssa had recognized her, she hadn’t made any indication that she had, “I haven’t...I’ve only used my fingers before and...” She cut herself off before bringing up Logan’s fingers, because there was only so much that one should talk to a complete stranger about; even in a sex store. Two months ago, she would have turned bright red from saying any of this outloud, but Jubilee and Logan had helped her loosen up quite a bit since then. After all, Jubilee wasn’t one to censor the things that she said.
“One thing that helps is to put a towel or a washcloth between you and the vibrator at first. It can be a bit intense if you’re not used to it. But there’s settings, that helps loads.” Alyssa smiled at her. “I only lost my virginity recently, but my mum, she’s been giving me stuff like this for years. Just in case, she says.” That made the petite redhead roll her eyes.
Cass quirked a brow, “That’s kind of crazy. My mom never would have done anything like that.” Sandra had been too busy spending Cass’ money to actually do anything with her daughter, but even if she hadn't been going on shopping trips for herself, she certainly wouldn’t have gotten her vibrators, “How old are you, if you don’t mind me asking.” She had been curious ever since Alyssa had approached her.
“I’ll be eighteen in June.” Alyssa smiled, shrugging. “But if a police officer comes in here, eighteen. I don’t want to get Jerry into trouble.” Alyssa waved over at the man who had been giving the girls their distance.
As Alyssa told her, her age, Cass couldn’t help but feel a little pathetic. It seemed that practically everyone she knew had, had sex except her, “Don’t worry, I won’t say anything.” At almost twenty all Cass had done was fool around with Logan, “So, um...what else would you recommend?”
“I mean, you can always buy porn, but there’s porn for free on the internet. I’d recommend something smallish in case that one looks intimidating for you.” She found a small object the size of a bullet, dark black. “It’s less... scary, you know? Great to start with. Or you can toss it into your purse.”
Cass couldn’t help but laugh at the thought of tossing a sex toy into her purse, “Oh god, if my roommate finds out about this she’s never going to let me live it down. Then again, she’d either have come with me and found the most intimidating looking vibrator or tell me not to waste my money and finally seal the deal with a friend of ours.” Either one was something Jubilee would do, but Cass wasn’t entirely sure which one she’d do.
“Oh? Don’t you hate when friends set you up? They either pick the person that you’d never match with, or they want to hurry things along until you’re married.” Alyssa shook her head.
“My friend isn’t pushing the marriage thing so much as the sex thing.” When Jubilee had first mentioned it, right in front of Logan of course, she’d wished for a hole to open up and swallow her, but ever since they’d fooled around, it had been on her mind a lot and of course she couldn’t do anything because of her broken collarbone. “She keeps raving about how good he is.” After having fooled around with Logan, she definitely didn’t doubt that.
Alyssa laughed. “I know a bloke like that. Maybe you’ll be lucky and yours will be as good as he is. I lost my virginity to him, though. I might be biased.”
“Is he your boyfriend?” Cass had never really made a decision that she was going to wait for any certain thing before she had sex, but it had more to do with the fact that her father had constantly been on her to practice, so that hadn’t left any time for things like dating.
Alyssa’s eyes widened. “I - no. I lost my virginity to an older bloke. I knew him when I was younger, he shagged my Mum when I was four or five. I couldn’t believe it when I saw him recently, and we kind of reconnected, and ... I don’t know, it was nice. But I was falling for him, and he’s kind of an epic slut. Which is fine, that’s his life, and we weren’t exclusive. But I didn’t want to mess up my whole life. I didn’t want to get Logan involved in a big drama.” Alyssa smiled. “I haven’t shagged my boyfriend yet. I want to make it mean a lot.”
“Logan? Logan Howlett?” Of course it would have been Logan. She had never really thought about it before, but if Logan had slept with Alyssa’s mother when the other girl was little, how old did that actually make Logan? She hadn’t thought he was very much older, but now she couldn’t help but wonder exactly how old he was and she wondered if Jubilee knew. She didn’t think it would be right to ask Logan himself.
Alyssa blinked. “I - yeah, you - oh, god, you fancy him, don’t you.” Alyssa winced on the girl’s behalf. “I’m sorry, love, I didn’t mean to stick my foot in it.”
Cass shook her head cheeks flushing now, “No, it’s fine. I mean, I know he’s not the relationship type.” She almost added on, right now, but was pretty sure that would just make it sound like she was hoping for more than she was sure Logan was willing to give at the moment and not just to her, but to anyone.
“He said he loves me, and I know he does in his way. And he cried when I said we couldn’t sleep together anymore. I think he’s partly afraid, actually.” Alyssa had seen the photos of his dead wife and daughter. Part of her had wanted to help fix that wounded part of him, but she knew better. Nothing could fix that but himself.
Cass honestly didn’t know what to say to any of that. While she knew that Logan cared about her and Jubilee and Laura in different ways, she hadn’t thought he’d actually tell someone he loved them and she didn’t know how to process that exactly, “Oh. Wow.” She chewed her bottom lip, dark eyes staring at a spot past Alyssa’s shoulder.
“I’m sorry.” Alyssa closed her eyes, looking away. “It’s not ... if you end up with him, that’s a wonderful thing. I’m not going to storm in all angry or something. I’m in love with Damian, and he’s perfect.”
Cass shook her head, “No, it’s fine.” She ran her hand over her ponytail and dropped her gaze to her sneakers. Well this had certainly become an awkward conversation and for once it wasn’t because of the sex talk. “I should probably get going.”
“It’s not fine, and I’m still sorry. I should go too.” Alyssa put her hands into her pockets, going back to the front counter, hugging the man behind it and all but running out of the shop.
