Obi-Wan is aging surprisingly well (obi1) wrote in valarlogs,
"It's called a Force bond or a life bond," Obi-Wan began to explain. "Jedi form them so that they can communicate over larger distances. And if you're in battle together, it increases your power and your focus."
It was intended to be something helpful. Most commonly, masters would bond with their padawans to assist with their training. But there was a danger to it, even then. The bonds were difficult to create and even more difficult to break, especially the longer they continued. Making use of them required adept ability in the Force, it required skills Obi-Wan did not yet have.
"As far as I can tell, when the plane went down, the catastrophe was enough to create the bond. Kitty's emotions became too intense. She's not a Jedi, but she's a telepath." Obi-Wan shook his head. "I don't know what happened. It doesn't really matter, now. I'm not powerful enough to break it."
