Gaz Membrane will destroy you. ([info]gameslave2) wrote in [info]valarlogs,

Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:gaz membrane, grantaire

Who: Gaz and Grand R.
What: Painting. Drinking. You know. Broody artists doing broody artist stuff.
When: Monday night.
Where: Gaz's apartment.
Rating: TBD. Will update as needed.
Status: In Progress.

After Zach had found her strung out and fucked up, Gaz had slept for about twenty hours. She'd woken up, painted her walls white again, and then gone out to see Logan. Then she'd returned home and slept more. She'd woken up, gone to class, come home, done her homework, made someone cry while playing COD online, and then gotten a text from R.

He was cute, so she figured she should at least pretend to get dressed up. It'd help her pretend that Logan wasn't fucking nice to her. So after picking out a short skirt, some cute stripey stockings, and a cutoff Skeletonwitch t-shirt, Gaz waited for his arrival by putting sheets over her bed and electronics.

While Gaz had taken the time to pretend to get dressed up, Grantaire had barely been able to find a clean t-shirt. It was some logo from the school, and it probably didn't even belong to Grantaire. (One of his friends must have left it either at his apartment or at the cafe.) But a clean shirt was a clean shirt. Who was R to argue about it? No one would ever look at him in that shirt and assume that Grantaire had any school spirit.

Gaz and R's original plans had included drinks and modeling for portrait sketches, so Grantaire did indeed have a bag slung over his shoulder with a few supplies in it. He knocked on her door, idly wondering if this was the kind of invitation over to her place of the variety that they didn't get much art done. Whatever it turned out to be was fine by Grantaire. All he was really looking for was a distraction, and he was having trouble finding that on his own.

She'd just been pouring herself a glass of port - this time without taking any Ambien with it - when she heard the knock at the door. When she answered, it was with her lips still wine-sticky, the bottle still in hand. "Hey."

Her eyes noticed his bag with pleasure, glad that he'd brought some supplies with him. She offered him her free hand to shake. "Gaz. Good to finally see you in person. I suck at flirting online." It was the truth; she was the sort of quiet person who people either loved or hated. Her opinions were loud and honest, her personality brash and unadulterated.

"Come on in." She handed him the bottle of wine so that she could finish putting sheets over things. Paint was still in her hair from when she'd painted with Logan, paint she figured would come out eventually.

Grantaire could get really used to women with wine on their lips as his companions. It was a nice change of pace from men bickering about politics over coffee. Not that he didn't love his Amis and would flatly deny it if asked, but there was nothing bad about women with wine.

"R. Good to see you, too. And you were doing fine enough at flirting for me. You don't take any shit. I like that."

It took R a long moment of looking at the wine bottle to decide that drinking from it would just be rude within 30 seconds upon setting foot into a stranger's house. So he leaned his bag against a wall as he took a few more steps in, looking around with casual interest. "Need any help with that?"

"You can just drink out of the bottle, we'll probably finish it off soon," she called out over her shoulder. Finishing up putting on the last sheet, she shook her head. "Nope. I figured I'd repaint my walls later. I usually do a mural on them, but the last one ... " It reminded her of someone. It reminded her of her weaknesses.

"It sucked."

"Cheers." Grantaire didn't need further encouragement to take a drink from the bottle, but he did somehow manage to partake less than he would if he were drinking alone. If Gaz had planned on taking any of the wine back, Grantaire could at the very least pretend to have some self-restraint. He was a guest after all.

"My last large piece sucked, too. I haven't gotten around to destroying it yet." He held the bottle in one hand, eyes flicking between the label and Gaz herself. "Thought about setting the canvas on fire but didn't want to risk the collateral damage just yet."

He gestured vaguely to the white walls. "Mural's not a bad idea. White doesn't seem quite your colour."

"Well. I'd been working on it for ... this whole semester, so a few months. Someone saw it, and I didn't plan on how that would change my whole work, so I just scrapped it and started over."

She went over to the kitchen, grabbed another bottle of wine and a large kitchen knife. Expertly, she broke the seal and then stabbed the cork, tugging it out. Clearly, she'd done this before. Taking a generous swig, she walked up to him. "Where are you going to start? Pick your wall."

"Something just for yourself? I get that. I understand that very well, actually." Grantaire thought about the huge painting in his living room that no one was supposed to see, but then all of his closest friends walked in on it. And the sketchbook full of scenes from memories. Private things... violated by another's eyes on it.

The trick with the knife was nice, and Grantaire chuckled softly in approval. To the question, he raised an eyebrow.

"It's your personal space, and you want another artist to help with the walls? Do you have any direction for me? Theme or colours or whatnot?"
