Who: Verity and Annie Sawyer
When: After Wonderland sometime
Where: Day Spa
What: Mani/Pedis
Rating: Low
Status: Complete

Verity was in dire need of two things; a mani/pedi, and some drinks with a girl friend. After that whole ‘wonderland’ thing, she needed a chance to let loose and be a little crazy. Not too crazy, mind, but enough to relieve some of the tension from the last week or so. Mani/Pedis came first, obviously.

She picked up Annie and together they went to the day spa to have their nails done. While they were there, Verity looked up the costs of facials and massages, too, thinking maybe she’d go ahead and be pampered today. It was a good day for pampering.

“Maybe I should get waxed while we’re here.” She said, considering it. “...Summer’s coming fast.”

After seeing that Wonderland thing, Annie was pretty sure that she’d gone crazy. Between that and the dreams she’d been having, everything had been turned upside down. She desperately wanted to forget the whole crazy thing. This definitely required mani/pedis for certain. She was eager to meet Verity and get out of the house.

Making sure that outside was back to normal, she said goodbye to Owen and headed out to Verity’s car. She was looking at nail polish colors and hmm’d a bit, lifting her head. “Oh that’s not a bad idea. I could use that. Maybe the whole thing.” That would be nice.

“It’s a bit pricey here,” Verity confessed, leaning in a little and lowering her voice. “But I think we should go for it. You only live once, right?” She grinned. There goes her Tax Refund for the year. But oh well. It was worth it to have some time to kick back and relax. And hey, she needed it.

“Exactly. And sometimes, you just need it.” Though Annie didn’t make a whole lot of money, there was Owen’s money. Maybe he wouldn’t get too angry about it. Doubtful, but maybe. She was going to do it anyway. It was worth it, for sure. “I have so many knots in my shoulders from trying to pick up boxes, you wouldn’t believe it.”

“Ooh, massage. That sounds really good, too.” Verity said, nodding. “I could probably believe it. Comes with the territory, right?” Lord knows she had plenty of knots herself from lifting boxes of shirts and gag gifts at her work. She was adding up the cost of her spa treatments in her head, to try and imagine what the total cost was going to be. Mani/Pedi, massage, waxing, the whole nine yards.

“Unfortunately,” Annie agreed with a sigh. “All day long, standing on your feet is awful. Maybe I should get a foot rub. Do they do that?” Pedicures came with a foot rub or something, perhaps? She didn’t really remember. Once they finally got to the spa, she held the door open for Verity and let her go in first.

“I think they give you a foot massage with the pedicure.” Verity said, nodding. “We can do the mani/pedis at the same time in chairs next to each other. I don’t know if they have that sort of set up for the massages, though.” She said, and stepped through the doorway.

Once inside, they were pointed toward a locker room where they could put their things into a locker and change into a complimentary fuzzy bathrobe. They were directed to go to a room with pedicure chairs and manicure tables, and speak with the woman who would get their treatments lined up.

“We’ll see. If they have one, I am definitely getting one.” Annie might even pay a little extra for it. She followed Verity into the salon, and then put all of her stuff into a locker. Oh this was nice. She put on her robe and immediately felt better. Once in the room where they could sit, she sat down beside her friend to get pampered.

The lady came over to ask what they wanted, and she ordered a mani/pedi and maybe a back massage if they had one of those. Annie looked over at Verity, after making sure she was settled as well. “So how are things with your boyfriend?”

It was a relief to have her street clothes and things locked away, and be wearing a robe. She settled down next to Annie and let the lady start pampering them. Verity ordered a mani/pedi, a massage, and a wax. Since... y’know. Waxing was good. She could do that part after hers and Annie’s massage.

“He’s really great.” Verity said, going slightly pink at the mention of Oliver. “I mean, we’re taking things slow. Sort of have to, after his accident.” Oliver had been on his motorcycle on Christmas Eve (after a fight with Verity) and was hit by a drunk driver in a pick-up truck. He’d died on the way to the hospital, but somehow pulled through.

Settling back, Annie let them put cucumbers on her eyelids and just let herself enjoy what was going on. Oh yeah, she should probably get a wax too. Her man might appreciate it. Unless he thought she was being slutty and well.. never mind.

“Slow is good. How is he doing since then?” That was one of the reasons that she was never getting on a motorcycle. they scared the heck out of her.

Verity sorta felt the same way about bikes. Freaky. Especially since Christmas. She leaned back herself, but opted to stare up at the ceiling while the ladies of the spa worked on her hands and feet. “He’s doing really well. Though... well, they removed a dead muscle from his leg. I don’t know if he’ll ever be the same without it.”

“Oh yikes.. I’m sorry. That’s got to suck.” Poor guy. Yeah Annie was never getting on a motorcycle. “But I’m glad he’s okay.” She let the lady start to do her nails, and wondered what kind of nail polish she wanted.

“Yeah, seriously.” Verity said, shaking her head. “I am, too. I don’t know what I would have done...” She didn’t want to think about that. “Well, anyway, he’s a great guy. I just... can I talk to you about something?” She asked, turning to her friend. “Something strange?”

Annie patted her friend on the back, smiling a bit. They should talk about something else. “Yeah of course. You can talk to me about anything.”

“It’s these... these weird dreams that I’ve been having,” Verity began, feeling a bit silly to be talking about them seriously. “Have... have you heard about the weird dreams?”

She nodded a little at Verity. “I’ve heard of them, haven’t actually had any myself yet. But some friends have been telling me.” Annie looked worried a bit. “What happened in yours?”

“Well...” Verity felt even more silly to be explaining it to her friend as if she was taking it seriously. She wasn’t really taking it seriously. Maybe. Strangely. She swallowed. “I dream about a place called Hogwarts. It’s a school for witches and wizards,” she explained. “But my dreams are all over the place. Sometimes I’m in school, sometimes it’s before school, when I was a child, and sometimes I’m an adult.” Those were the dreams that made her feel the most awkward.

Annie’s eyes lit up a bit, “Oh well that doesn’t seem to be too bad? Being a witch sounds like fun.” Huh, she wondered what that meant. “I’ve heard that other people’s are like that. Like they’re all based on one thing, but they’re very all over the place. I wonder what that means.” She hm’d a bit. “But is it fun? Or is it awful?”

“It is. It’s fun. The magic is fun.” Verity said with a nod. “But what’s weird is... in my later dreams, I’m married to Oliver. We were making a baby together. After a miscarriage... we’d been trying so hard at it. I’ve had that dream a couple of times.” She admitted, going pink. “The love that I feel for him in the dreams... I’ve never felt anything like it.”

Huh. “That’s quite an elaborate dream. You’d think that people wouldn’t dream about things like that. Maybe they do though, I don’t know.” Annie hadn’t really had one, so she didn’t know what they were like. “That’s really sweet. Maybe one day you two will get married. With lots of little babies.”

“I dunno,” Verity said, shaking her head. “I don’t know if Oliver’s the marrying time. Sometimes I feel like I’m holding him back.” She admitted. “Gosh, listen to me.” She shook her head a bit and closed her eyes. The pampering was nice. Distracting. “I’m thankful for what I’ve got. I love him very much. But I don’t know if it’s long-term. I don’t know if it’s forever.”

Aww. Poor Verity. Annie frowned a bit. “He’d be crazy not to marry you. But we’re all young, we’ve got lots of time for all those things. You’re not holding him back. How could you be? You’re brilliant.” She was pretty good at cheering people up most of the time. Sigh. “I’m sorry. But you’ll figure it out, I hope.”

Verity gave a little smile, going pink at that. “Thanks, Annie. It means a lot.” She said, softly. “It’ll all work itself out, I’m sure. If it’s meant to be, it’ll be.” She added. Truth was, she wanted to be with Oliver forever. But that’s how relationships went, right? If two people didn’t want to be together forever, why be together? “Anyway, how’s your love life?”

"Oh you don't have to thank me, that's what friends are for. Of course it will work out. You two are great together." Annie was rooting for them. She always wanted her friends to be happy. She would remain positive about it all. "It's good. Owen is lovely. He hasn't been home much, but well you know. That's okay. As long as we don't fight when he is home, it doesn't matter."

“Fighting is the worst.” Verity agreed. “I’m glad that things are going well. We should all get together sometime. Double date. As soon as Oli’s back up... y’know... on his feet.” More than now. Verity could feel how stressed Oliver was at being dependant on a crutch. It would probably frustrate him to be on a double date looking so ‘weak,’ in his own eyes.

It really was. The thing was, they fought all the time. And sometimes it got.. bad. Annie would never say anything though. “We should, that would be fun. A double date. I’d like that. Once he’s up for it.” And hopefully Owen would agree. He was all smiles and niceties in front of other people. Still Annie wanted Oliver to feel okay. They could wait until he was better. Once their massages were done, they moved to get some other things done. Today was definitely a nice day.
