Logan rolled up to Faiza’s flat, having made a beeline straight there. He was glad she was in town tonight and not out at the Ranch. He wanted Alyssa out of pain as soon as possible. He carried the girl up to the second floor, and knocked.
Faiza opened the door, blinking at the girl’s state and then gesturing. “Sit her at the kitchen table, duck. I’ve already cleared room.”
“It’s not all that bad, unless I’ve got some sort of internal bleeding.” Alyssa followed Logan in, wrinkling her nose and then remembering that it was broken. She nodded at Faiza. “I”m sorry for what I’m wearing. She ... put me in it.”
“That’s..that’s quite all right.” She eyed Logan as he put Alyssa in the chair. Faiza then stepped around, getting a good look at the girl’s face. “My, she put you through the meat grinder, didn’t she.”
“She got a few hits in, yeah.” Alyssa bit her lower lip, ducking her head. “Where are you from back home?” When in doubt, keep calm and make polite, emotionally evasive conversation.
“Oh, London.” Faiza pulled out a few things. She was worried about Alyssa’s nose, and her eyesocket. She poked it gingerly with one gloved finger. There was some give. “Oh bugger....”
“Essex,” Alyssa murmured. “What’s wrong?” She winced when Faiza poked her, gritting her teeth hard against a whimper. “Logan, do you mind putting the kettle on?”
“Kettle’s already on, duckling,” Faiza said gently. “But he can pour us some.” Her tongue stuck out the corner of her lips as she stepped back. “Now this might feel odd, but relax, I’m a professional super-hero.”
She wiggled her fingers, and Alyssa’s head separated into pieces. Logan nearly fumbled the tea. Hearing about it was one thing. But seeing it?
Alyssa just closed her eyes, breathing quietly. “Mmm, you think of everything,” she smiled. Tea cured most things. For everything else, that’s why there were doctors. As her eyes were closed, she couldn’t see what Faiza was doing, nor did it feel as weird or bad as the curses had. This was downright nice, in comparison.
Faiza didn’t think it hurt. Just felt odd. She winced as she pieced part of Alyssa’s cheek and eyesocket back together, then straightened her nose.. “You’re going to be sore for a few weeks, but I don’t think you’ll be disfigured. On the plus side, you’re healthy as a horse.”
Logan set down two teapcups. This was kind of disgusting.
“I may heal faster. I think I’m human, but a special strain. I’m called a Rooder in my dreams, I kill demons.” Alyssa noticed that Logan was being quiet and wondered what was going on.
“How the hell is she able to talk when her tongue is just floatin’ in the air?” Logan finally asked.
“That, I don’t know,” Faiza said, cheerfully. “And you’ll heal faster regardless, I’m almost done!”
“Thank you, and ew!” Alyssa squinched her eyes shut even more tightly.
With a little giggle, Faiza closed Alyssa up. She pulled out a mirror. “Open your eyes, duck.”
Alyssa opened her eyes and blinked. “You’re brilliant,” she murmured, standing up to wrap her arms around her. “Thank you so much. You’re ... thank you.”
Faiza hugged her back lightly. “Anything for a fellow Briton.” She shot them both a serious look. “Are you sure you shouldn’t go to the police? Or is this one of those things Mr. Summers likes to keep within the family, so to speak.”
Her head shook hard. “This woman needs ... help. Not prison.” She looked at Logan. “She doesn’t need to be hunted.”
Logan narrowed his eyes, and nodded. “Yeah, if you think that’s what’s needed. I can live with it. I still want to kick her ass.”
Faiza frowned. “I don’t think you realized how badly she hurt you.”
“She needs to be institutionalized. How badly did she ... “ Alyssa bit her lower lip.
“If it wasn’t for me, I’d dare say you’d have been disfigured for life,” the doctor said, sternly. “She shattered your cheek and part of your eye socket.”
Alyssa closed her eyes. “You two do what you think is best. I want to go be with Damian and just ... I’m going to go now.”
“Let me take you home,” Logan said quietly, brushing his hand over Alyssa’s hair. He was worried about her, but he couldn’t smother her. Even if he wanted to.
She nodded, eyes teary. “Thank you, Faiza. We should go out for a cuppa sometime when you’re not saving my life.”
“How’s next week sound? I’m sure there won’t be another crisis that soon?” She smiled cheerfully.
“Hopefully not.” Alyssa wiped at her eyes and started to walk out the door, feeling a bit numb, and more than a bit cold.
