WHO: Max Black and Darcy Lewis
WHAT: Face twins meeting
WHEN: Backdated: Saturday, February 16th. Early Evening
WHERE: A bar in Huntington Beach
RATING: Low
STATUS: Complete
Max had picked a bar in Huntington Beach, not too far from the diner, so she was able to change before she left work and leave her car in the parking lot there. Bars rarely had good parking and the walk back later would be good to sober her up. Not to mention, the test on how sober she was, would be whether or not she could make it without twisting her ankle, thanks to the boots she had chosen to wear that night. Max Black and sensible shoes never really went hand in hand, but somehow she rarely ended up with blisters, which was some kind of miracle. Sore feet yes, but not blisters.
Her and Darcy had made plans to meet up outside the bar, because it would be a lot easier to make formal introductions there as opposed to the loud atmosphere of the bar. It was times like these when Max was happy to live in California instead of New York, because this time of year, waiting outside a bar, in a short skirt, Max would be freezing her ass off, but right now in California, there was just a nice breeze.
Anything to get her mind off of how crap the next couple of days were going to be, Darcy agreed to go hang out with Max at the bar. She too had gone home after work to get changed. Her fashion sense wasn’t as awesome as Max’s but it did have some flair. She was getting better at dressing up now that she had money and wasn’t completely poor. She drove her own car to the beach, and then parked it wherever she could. Hopefully she’d be able to find it later. Either that or she’d just take a taxi home or something. Call someone fun to come and get her.
After walking the appropriate distance, she found herself just outside the bar. Thankfully it was easier to spot Max because she knew exactly what she looked like. “Hey!” she called, wandering over. “Wow.. seeing you in person is.. really freaky.”
Max spotted Darcy right away, her brows rising slightly as she took in just how much they actually looked alike. It was literally like looking in a mirror. “You can say that again.” Seriously, they really could pass for twins. It was almost like that movie The Parent Trap or that one with the Olsen Twins. Complete strangers who just happened to look exactly alike. Of course in The Parent Trap they were actually twins, but that wasn’t the important part right now. “I am definitely gonna have to tell my mother about this.”
Thinking back, Darcy tried to remember if anyone else had come across someone who looked like them. Or were they the only ones? It was so weird. “Whoa..” she said, in her perfect Keanu Reeves accent. “I feel like one day we’re going to have to swap lives and you can pretend you’re me and I’ll pretend I’m you and then see which of our friends figures it out.” Man. It was kind of cool though. “Looking into a mirror is one thing, but I have to say.. we are smokin hot.” Especially like this.
“If you can waitress and make cupcakes then you might be able to pass for me,” Max grinned, running a hand through her wavy dark hair, “Oh and most important, you’d have to be extremely sarcastic. It’s my trademark.” Well and her rack, but from the looks of Darcy, she was pretty sure that the other girl had the same trademark. “We’d better be careful not to set off the sprinklers once we get inside.”
“I can definitely waitress.. I dunno about cupcakes. I can sure as hell eat them. Never tried baking.” Well not other than the basic stuff from the box or anything. Darcy grinned a bit. “I can master sarcasm. No problems.” She hm’d a bit to think about what Max would need to know about Darcy. “For me, you have to know how to sit around Stark Tower and order peasants around. And hang out with superheroes.” Ooh la la. She headed inside with Max, being let right inside. “Ever been here before?”
“Oh, I think I could master ordering people around and I’d have no problem hanging out with superheroes.” Now whether or not Darcy meant actual superheroes, Max didn’t know, but either way, she liked the sound of it. “Once. They make pretty good drinks.” Max had come to this particular bar one night after work with another waitress at the diner, not too long ago.
“See? We’re like real twins.” It was kind of weird but kind of amazing. Just slightly different. But she was pretty sure that she had found yet another kindred spirit of some kind. She was going to have to introduce her to Thor and Tony and all the other ones that she knew. “Then let’s get us some drinks. I definitely need some. Maybe more than one. Do you do shots?”
“Asking me if I do shots is like asking if fish swim,” Max grinned and took Darcy’s hand, leading her over to the bar then glanced over at the other girl, “What kind of shots?” Max had always heard that everyone supposedly had a “twin” and Max had always thought that if that were true, her face twin would be the complete opposite of her, which would be so boring, but the fact that Darcy was almost exactly like her made this whole thing so much better.
“This is the start of a beautiful friendship.” They were going to get along splendidly. She grabbed Max’s hand and let her lead the way. “Hm.. maybe some kind of cherry thing? Or lemon or something? Something fruity to start with, and then we can move to like straight stuff if you want. I’m good with whatever.” If you were going to do straight vodka, you might as well have some flavor, right? It seemed like twins usually were opposites, in a weird way but this was way better. She liked this version.
Max thought for a minute then ordered two shots and soon two shot glasses of some pink alcohol were placed on the counter and Max passed over her credit card to start a tab. She’d made plenty of money in tips over the last few days that she had a good buffer in her account to spend on drinks tonight. Lifting one of the shot glasses, she held it up, smiling, “To us.” With that, she threw back the shot.
Pink was good. She liked pink. Darcy picked up her shot and grinned. “Thanks. I will get the next one.” It was only fair of her to help pay for all the drinking they were about to do. “To us.” She threw back the shot and tried not to cough. She could handle her liquor. Honest. It burned going down, but it was good. “Whatever that was, I like it. I’ll have another.”
“Me too!” Max laughed, setting the shot glass back down on the bar and quickly threw back the next one. “So, what kind of job do you have where you order peasants around?” She asked, smirking. In a way, Max did the same thing, because as a waitress she told the cook, in the kitchen what to make.
Grabbing the next shot glass, Darcy downed hers back in a flash and mm’d. Yes, this was going to take no time at all. “I work at Stark Tower, in public relations. Making sure that Tony Stark doesn’t come across like a giant asshole. It’s kind of fun.” And a job that she actually liked. “I used to be a barista. This is a giant step up from that.”
“I think I’ve heard of him. Read an article that he was mentioned in once, I think,” Max ordered a rum and coke next and leaned against the bar, watching Darcy, “You like working for him?” She asked, sipping her drink.
“You can’t really miss him. He’s got one of those larger than life attitudes.” Not to mention his ego was about the same size. Darcy ordered a long island iced tea and glanced around to see what guys were around. “Yeah actually. I didn’t think I would but he’s pretty laid back and awesome. He’s always throwing these parties and picnics and stuff? It’s cool.”
“Well, I think that next time he has a party, you should invite your new twin along.” Max’s red lips spread into a grin as she took a sip of her drink. “Do you think the people you work with would be able to tell the difference?” She could only imagine what it’d be like if they both showed up at one of Stark’s parties.
“I definitely will. A lot of the guys in the office will get a kick out of that, to say the least.” Then Tony’s head would explode with having to put up with both of them perhaps. “Hmm. Maybe not. I don’t really hang out with any of them after work. We could give it a try.”
“It’d definitely be fun.” Max could definitely get a kick out of something like that. Of course there were times when Max had pretended to be someone else to try and avoid talking to some guy she’d hooked up with in the past, but pretending to be Darcy in order to screw with other people would be greatly amusing, “I’ll warn you, if you ever come into Ruby’s, chances are, our cook will probably hit on you if he realizes we look alike. Max could deal with it because she’d been working there for awhile, but she wasn’t sure how Darcy would handle him.
Ah yes, maybe they could make that a thing. If they had to break up with dudes, they could just act like each other. Darcy could break up with Max’s dudes, and vice versa. That would be pretty funny. And kind of sad at the same time. “Oh one of those, huh? I’ll keep that in mind.” She didn’t really care all that much until guys got handsy. She didn’t have a problem kicking a guy in the parts when he couldn’t keep his hands to himself. Otherwise she was just insulting and rolled her eyes.
“Most of it is harmless, but he can get a little annoying when he does it all the time.” Max finished off her drink and glanced out at the small dance floor that the bar provided. It wasn’t as big as a club, where the majority of it was for dancing, but it was big enough to fit a couple dozen people, “Lets dance.” To be honest, Max was looking forward to the attention they were bound to get once they moved onto the dance floor.
Since Darcy didn’t know what that was like, she just nodded as if she knew. Taking a couple sips more, she grinned and moved with her down to the dance floor. Ah yes, much better. She had just enough to drink that she didn’t care if people were watching her, which was just the right amount to be if you asked her.
Most of the time Max didn’t care what people thought of her whether she was sober or intoxicated, but having a little alcohol in her just made her care less; just like Darcy. They really were more alike than they thought. As they reached the dance floor, Max started moving to the music, letting it dictate how she danced without giving it a second thought.
Dancing was fun, and in fact she probably should do it more often. She moved to the music too, rocking her hips and getting into it. It didn’t take long for some guys to come over and start dancing up with them. Darcy didn't’ really mind all that much, as long as they didn’t get all weird about it. Hopefully they’d keep their hands to themselves.
Max enjoyed the attention that she got when she was dancing; just so long as the guys didn’t get too handsy. As she danced, she grinned at Darcy, wondering how they looked to everyone else. After all, aside from their clothes and slight differences in their hair styles, they were exact mirror images of one another.
Guys did seem to dig that there were two chicks who apparently were twins out on the dance floor. She’d always wanted a twin. With a grin back at Max, Darcy moved to dance up next to her new best friend. That should get some people to talk. It didn’t take very long for her to want another drink though. “I’ll get us a drink.. if you want one.”
When Darcy moved closer, Max noticed a few of the guys leering at them, but she did her best to ignore them, because she was having fun and she was not going to let them ruin it. “A drink would be awesome! Get me whatever you’re having.” Max was pretty easy when it came to alcoholic beverages and would drink pretty much anything.
Guys were going to get punched if they kept it up. Ignoring them was best though. And drinking was even better. “Be right back! Don’t be afraid to throw a right hook.” Darcy headed back to the bar where she got two drinks, or at least waited her turn to get drinks. They were all a bit busy, but she would wait.
Max laughed and nodded, “Will do.” She watched as the other girl headed over to the bar, having always been just a little curious as to what exactly she, herself, looked like when she was walking away and now she knew. The whole thing was still extremely bizarre, but Max definitely wasn’t one to ask questions when really bizarre things that wound up being extremely cool happened to her.
It was definitely odd to be able to check yourself out from the other side. Kind of cool though. Finally Darcy waved a guy down and practically had to drag him over by his collar to get the booze. When she grabbed the drinks, she headed back out onto the dance floor and handed Max her drink. Hopefully she wouldn’t have to hit any handsy dudes.
