Tony saw the puffy eyes but he had a hard time reconciling that the indomitable Pepper Potts would have been so shook up by this, even if he had saved her life. Maybe he wasn't the only one falling into whatever this was.
Craning his head slightly, Tony could see the faint glow of the arc reactor, and his first reaction was predictable. "Of course it worked. I invented it."
As soon as the words were out of his mouth though, he was struck by confusion. It felt entirely right to say that, but at the same time what the hell had he ever really invented besides this?
