Apparently they had something beyond genetics in common: Wanda was upset that she hadn't done more, been more creative in her search for Pietro. She'd been the one who'd given up, had settled down to wait to be found, and even though the strategy had paid off, she still felt like a quitter. She opened her mouth to verbalize her guilt, but instead what came out was "ah," like she couldn't force more than a vowel sound.
"I missed you too." And then it came out in a rush, too much instead of a strangled 'a.' "I'm so sorry. I tried to track you down, but that last foster family was full of tightwads, and I'd barely saved enough to get out here, and--"
And she'd given up. It kept coming back to that admission. "I ran out of ideas." Wanda took a breath, mostly because she'd forgotten to pace herself and now needed the oxygen. "And I was afraid to put my name out there because the Internet is full of psychos who overshare. Was it hard to find me?"
