She felt bloated and sore. But she also felt a growing sense of anticipation. That things might be all right. Alma leaned back in her chair, closing her eyes, her mind syncing with that of her daughter’s. She shared joyous things. Music, and love. Happiness. She shared touching moments with Wrex, and with Beth, and silly moments with Shepard.

Alma shared Roy and all her other friends with her baby. She shielded her from the grief and pain of Kasumi and Wrex, though. That thought made her hug herself, and wish she could have sensed it happening.

There was a lot of evil in the world, but there were more things that were good. Alma wanted Elise to know that these good things existed. That the world was worth coming into, and that any nightmares she might get from her mother were only that.

She watched a creepy little girl take a few steps towards her, and gave her a smile. “It’s okay. Everything will be okay. I do not have to fear for my daughter.”

The girl smiled, and disappeared.
