Thor was all dressed up in his maid of honor dress, and he moved through the house where they were getting ready, those who had decided to gather and get ready together. He bestowed grins and approving looks at the others, even as he moved to the room Kitty was dressing in. He knocked softly.
“Kitty? It’s Thor.” Of course, he was the only guy in the house right now, but still.
“Come in!” She sounded excited. Of course she was excited. She was getting married. Married. She was going to be a wife! To Xi’an! “Oh my god I think I’m gonna throw up.”
Thor came in, shutting the door after him and chuckled. “Many husbands say so. It will pass.” He moved to her side and his hand gently touched her shoulder, imparting a tiny piece of warmth and strength as a spark leaped from one to the other. “You look magnificent, my friend.”
“Wives too.” She looked at herself in the mirror as she tried to fluff out her hair a bit. “Should I have gone with a dress? I’ll look silly in this tux.” She turned left, and right, chewing her lip. “If I forget my vows I’ll sink through the floor.”
“You’ll be fine, you won't forget or sink. You look great.” He reached out and turned her toward him. “Kitty, breathe.” He smiled softly. “You will have a wonderful wedding.”
He nodded at her.
Breathing, she nodded her head, then wrapped her arms around him. “I will. Thanks. You look adorable, by the way.” She stepped back to get a look at him, grinning. “This way I won’t look ridiculous at all!”
He smirked and twirled for her, his dress skirt rising and the slits parting just enough to remind Kitty of what she had seen the night before. "You look gorgeous, Kitty. "
She flushed, then laughed. “Next time I’ll wear the dress and she’ll have the suit.” She still planned to renew their vows in a few years. For fun, and so they could swap rolls.
Thor nodded, grinning. “Sounds like fun. Maybe I’ll come along in a tuxedo then.” He hmmed. “Maybe by then you’ll be attending another wedding...”
“OH.” She turned back to him, arms folded and eyes filled with mischief. “Does the mighty Thor have plans? How IS it with you and your paramour?”
‘No plans yet. But ideas.” He grinned at her, eyes warm as he thought of Natasha. “Things are going very well. She’s going to be there, today, of course, sitting in the audience and waiting to rip this off of me later. We went from starting a relationship almost by accident to falling in love fairly quickly. I think... it’s terrifying, and wild and fun and I love her.”
Kitty smiled at him. It was fond, and happy, and a little loving. She had discovered a great friend in the God of Thunder. She hugged him again. “Accidental love is some of the best love. You don’t expect it, and you turn around and WHAM there you are, head over heels.”
He hugged her back, lifting her from the ground for a second, then smiling softly and kissing her temple as he did so. “I was actively avoiding it, after my... “ He swallowed, then continued. “after my previous experience, but it somehow snuck up anyway.”
She nodded, smiling. “And it’s really love? Not just lust all wrapped up in emotion?” She paused, then added. “Not that lust being a part of love is a bad thing, but I think you know what I mean.”
Thor nodded. “I think so. It feels like it felt before, with Sandy.” He shivered, surprised, for a moment. That was the first time he had said her name since she had died. He shook his head, forcing his mind and heart to now, not then. “I find her making me laugh, and sigh, and being away from her makes me miss her, even a short time. She knows how to make me feel good, not just in sex, but in little things, and she knows me better, sometimes, than I know myself.”
Kitty's hands squeezed at Thor's arms. "Sounds like it's something special. Enjoy it, and treasure it. With our powers, and all the things that seem to come with it, only God knows what'll come tomorrow. I've been taking my own advice and taking the happy every chance I get. You can't keep waiting for the dust to settle..because it's ...that's life."
Everything is so fragile. There's so much conflict, so much pain...you keep waiting for the dust to settle and then you realize this it; the dust is your life going on. If happy comes along--the unbearable delight that's actual happy--I think you have to grab it while you can. You take what you can get, 'cause it's here, and then...gone.
Her own words echoed in her head, and her smile softened. “Be as happy as I am, Thor. You’re allowed it.”
Thor nodded. “Thank you, Kitty. I’ll try. So far, things are going pretty darn well.” He grinned at her and kissed her cheek softly. “Want to make you proud, after all.”
“I already am proud! Look at you. Only you’d be man enough to pull off that color with your hair!”
Thor laughed and poked her. “I had my marching orders and a good dressmaker.“ He nodded. “Also, I got you a present which will be delivered to your house next week.”
Then he grinned. “The time grows near, my friend. Are you ready?”
“No, but I’m not going to get cold feet. I love her too much for that. ” She was curious about the present, but that would have to wait. It was time to start the first day of the rest of her life!
