Peter approached Pansy’s door with a bit of apprehension. Sure, it was the past, sure nothing would come of Gwen’s return, sure he loved Pansy and she knew he did and she could trust him; at least, he hoped she knew she could trust him. Still, with all she’d been going through lately, dropping a bombshell like ‘I used to live with this girl, almost proposed, but then she left for MIT and now she’s returned’ could be something that really pissed her off. It wasn’t that he intentionally kept it from her; really, he just figured she didn’t want to know about his past relationships. He already knew one of hers, and while he trusted her and was hardly the possessive type, just knowing still bothered him enough to prove to him just how much he loved her.
He liked Thor too, and he’d never be the possessive ‘you can’t see him’ or angry type about it; he wasn’t precisely jealous, just enough discomfort, perhaps even insecurity really, in knowing that she had been with a big burly blonde haired dream boat, and he was just puny Peter Parker. It was an insecurity that might never leave; in fact, it was an insecurity that had been strengthened by Gwen’s leaving. When she’d left, it cut him rather deep, and it had done enough to his psyche to show him that, even being the best boyfriend he could ever be, wasn’t enough to keep her around.
So of course there was that ‘I’m not good enough’ mentality in him, and of course he’d shown it time and time again; yet, he’d grown out of it with Pansy. He’d grown to have faith in himself. He just really hoped that knowing he’d nearly proposed to a girl he now worked with didn’t put Pansy on the spot. It was likely that he didn’t even have to tell her, but he did feel obligated and that she had a right to know. That was the proper thing to do right?
He arrived at her door and offered a knock before stepping back. He was in a black t-shirt over a white long sleeve shirt and a pair of jeans.
Pansy was already in her pajamas. She had a tank-top on that had a shelf built in, so she didn't have to wear a bra with it. And her flannel pajama pants were new. Either she'd purchased them, or she'd stolen them from Peter. She couldn't remember which. They were a little tighter than she would normally have worn, so maybe they were Peter's. In any case, she was really quite comfortable as she sat on her sofa and waited for him to show up. She'd already gone out for burgers, so she wasn't hungry. There was an empty beer bottle on the coffee table in front of her, and the television was on. The nightly news played, but Pansy was more interested in fiddling with her phone than watching.
She jumped up at the sound of the knock and came jogging over. After opening the door, she leaned in a little and tapped a kiss against his lips. "Hi."
Peter grinned when she appeared, the door opening to reveal her there. Seeing her casually dressed, ready for bed he couldn’t help but smirk. It was the little thing about it, the idea that they had actually moved out of the realm of always having to be dressed up or at least nice, and that they were comfortable with each other that made this a true relationship. He stepped inside after returning the quick kiss, raising a brow, “Hi. How are you?”
She was beautiful as always, and he couldn’t help but hold that grin as he watched her. He then slipped further in, looking to the news, and then plopped down on the couch--after having removed his shoes at the door. He splayed out on said couch with a grumble, “I blew something up in the lab today, kind of caused a big stir. It wasn’t exactly intentional, but I kind of knew it might happen. Still, figured out what not to do for next time. Trying to invent a true virtual reality trainer is rather difficult.”
He then shook his head, “Sorry, I’m yammering.”
Well, to be fair, Pansy didn't do a whole lot of dressing up, in general. Even for Peter early on, she was still fairly casual. Really casual, actually. That was her way. "I'm good." She said, giving him a little smile. Now that she'd made the decision to get the DNA samples tested, comparing hers and her brother's, she felt relieved. After she and John connected and she had the information about the lab, well, she'd know soon enough. She'd have proof positive. That in and of itself was a relief.
Pansy closed the door behind him, then moved over to the sofa and slipped down beside him, tucking her feet up underneath her. "Yeah?" She leaned her head against his shoulder. "I like it when you yammer."
“Liar, you just think I’m cute because I’m being a nerd and you think nerds are cuddly and adorable,” he laughed before wrapping his arm around her shoulders as her head leaned against his shoulder. He then leaned back in the couch seat before looking towards the TV. He then tapped his fingers along her shoulder, and frowned a moment, “So uhm, so how was your day?” It was obvious he was going to ease into the conversation, because he was trying to decide how he wanted to go about describing the situation at hand.
He’d be working closely with Gwen to a degree, in fact they could even be considered partners. Well the whole floor was, sure, but it was a small group working individually but using the others to help further their own projects.
That idea was rather frightening completely, “How are classes going? Anything you need tutoring on?”
"You can't blame me for that. Nerds are cuddly and adorable." Pansy said, giving him a grin. She cuddled back against him, taking hold of his hand and tugging his arm more tightly around her shoulders. A little chuckle escaped her. "Nuh uh." She said, shaking her head. "You came over to talk about something specific, so... let's talk." She said, turning to look up at him. She was too close to get a good look, though.
"My day was fine, I don't need tutoring. Now, what's really on your mind?"
Peter blinked and then sighed, she wasn’t going to let him run this along anymore than he already had; so he just looked to her and shrugged, “Fine, fine. You’re right, I came here for a reason so I need to tell you.” He smiled to her and then turned to face her completely, bringing one leg up on the couch while wrapping her hand in one of his. He looked at her some, and then turned up his brow.
“Alright, so speaking of cuddly and adorable nerds; know how I am one? Know how I seem like I’m the type that could never get a girlfriend, and somehow I was lucky enough to stumble upon you? Well turns out I am pretty lucky with that; however, that isn’t all entirely true. I have had other girlfriends in the past, and...”
He clicked his tongue, before shrugging, “Alright, basically there’s a girl. Her name is Gwen, and she and I dated for awhile back when I was a TA and she was going to school. Anyway, we lived together for some time, and I uhm... I nearly proposed to her. Before I did though, she got a big break to go to MIT and so she went.”
He shrugged, “I never told you because I felt that was a part of my life that didn’t need to be remembered until later; I was more worried about us and establishing you and me. The reason I am bringing it up at all is, well a you need to know at some point, right? The reason I bring it up now is, because she just took a job at Stark Industries. I had no idea until I stepped in on the interview panel.”
He looked to her with a brow turned, “And I didn’t want you to meet her, find out she and I lived together, and then wonder why I never told you. I have nothing to hide, but I guess I felt you should know?’
He shrugged, “I’m not very good at these things.”
Pansy listened, her heart starting to thump a little bit when he spoke. Nearly proposed? Wow. That was big. Then again, Pansy wasn't really surprised. She shouldn't be surprised. Peter was a hopeless romantic, optimistic, a true lover to the core. It was one of the things that attracted Pansy to him, to be honest. She needed someone so full of romance and love to balance out where she lacked those things.
It wasn't really important to Pansy to have been told. Peter had a life, he had a past. Pansy had a past, too, and she hadn't told Peter every little thing that had happened in it, either. They didn't need to dwell on the past, but the idea that Peter thought he'd tell her everything eventually was comforting.
"Well, I'm glad you told me." Pansy said, and gave a little shake of her head. "But, honestly, Pete. You should know me better than to think I'm some jealous type who's going to freak out over all of your ex-girlfriends." She was trying to play it off like it didn’t bother her at all that Peter would be working with his ex. Though, a part of her was lingering on the 'nearly proposed' bit.
He grinned at her kindness and understanding, shaking his head a moment before looking back into her eyes, hand still wrapped around hers as his thumb ran over the back of it, “I don’t think of you as the jealous type; I think that I should be open and honest with you about my past, when that past suddenly pops up and I’m going to be working so closely with it. She’ll be on my same floor, and that kind of throws my past right back into my face, and my past is part of my life, and you are part of my life now.”
He smiled before kissing her lips softly, “I just didn’t want anything left unsaid between us that could be important like that. Nothing more, nothing less.”
Peter didn’t know if she needed to know these things; she likely didn’t, but what he did know was that she was the most important person in his life now, and he wanted to make sure there were no major secrets between them. He didn’t need to know who she’s slept with, and vice versa; still, what did matter was that if he almost proposed to a woman who he now suddenly worked with, he didn’t want that secret between them. Because he wanted to make sure she always understood how important this relationship, and she herself, was to him.
"Are you sure you're not just trying to soften the blow when you decide you'd much rather be with her than with me? She's the brainy type, right? Much better match than I am." Pansy said, trying to keep a straight face. She was joking to hide her insecurities. That's right, Pete, Pansy had them, too. Though, they seemed to come out less often, didn't they? Maybe she was just better at burying them than he was.
He blinked when she said that and frowned, thinking for a moment she was being serious. He swallowed and shook his head, lifting both hands to either side of her head. Leaning forward, he pushed his forehead against hers, “You’re smart too Pansy, so don’t you dare start selling yourself short. Yes, she’s brilliant; she’s probably smarter than me, but you also know what else she is? Not with me. You are, and that’s all that matters to me. I have no desire to be with her anymore, and if her leaving me meant I got you? Then it’s a blessing in disguise.”
He kissed her softly, and brushed a thumb over her cheek, “I love you Pansy, and no one’s better than you. You’re strong, brilliant, funny, hot, sexy; you’ve lived life, you have had wealth, but live normally. You know more of the world than I could ever hope to know, and you treat the world like it’s meant to be--a playground, a place for fun. You are amazing.”
He laughed and then kissed her again, “So don’t you worry about Gwen Stacy. That’s ancient history, you’re my present and my future.”
Pansy felt her eyes fall closed at the feel of his forehead against hers. His words made her warm from the inside out, and a gentle smile crossed her features. How could she not be head over heels in love with a man who said such amazing and wonderful things? And more so, he meant them. She let her lips linger against his for a moment, then nodded softly. "Thank you. For telling me."
She stole another kiss from his lips, unable to stop the smile from spreading to her eyes. She pulled back just enough to look up into his. "How did I ever land a guy like you, Peter Parker?"
He shrugged his shoulders and grinned, brushing his hand along her cheek as he kept his lips near hers. Kissing her softly, then shook his head, “You ended up with me because you gave me a chance, when it turns out not many women do. So I think it shows great judge of character on your part that you did land a guy like me; being sexy, and funny, and absolutely brilliant didn’t hurt either.”
He grinned and traced his finger along her jaw, before clapping his hand down against her leg and stood up, “I didn’t bring food did I? No, I usually do. That’s a total fail on my part, because I can’t cook. You’d think it’d be easy, it’s just chemistry, but I find it hard. So instead, let me go and order some... Chinese?”
Pansy gave a little chuckle. She nodded. “Chinese is fine with me. Something with lots of beef.” She said, then wondered for a moment if maybe the reason she was constantly craving cheeseburgers and beef was a lack of iron in her body. Hmm. Maybe she’d have to ask her amazing, super-smart, scientist of a boyfriend about that at another time. For now she just wanted to spend the night cuddling, eating Chinese food, and watching tv. Then sex. Lots and lots of sex.
