Gwen was glad the week was almost over. She was really starting to love her job, but at the same time it was a little draining. She had a lot of things to learn, and she was getting into the swing of it, but it was taking a little bit longer than she hoped for herself. People kept telling her to give it time, that normally it would take a bit longer to get adjusted, but Gwen expected so much from herself.
After work on Thursday she’d changed into her pajamas, and was sitting on the sofa in the living room. She suspected that John was home, but she hadn’t seen him yet since she arrived. She didn’t want to bother him while he was writing.
The majority of John’s writing was done between the hours of eight to five. Sometimes he took a little longer on it when he needed to, or if he was in a particular groove, but he’d found that this was the schedule that worked well when it came to socializing (particularly when Tara was around).
That said, when he heard the sounds of Gwen coming home and moving around the apartment, he saved and then closed his laptop, slipping out of their little office (which, admittedly, John seemed to use more often than Gwen). “Hey,” he greeted the blonde as he stepped into the living room. “How was work?” So domestic.
They were like an old, married couple. Without the married. “It was fine.” She said, turning to grin at him over her shoulder. The only problem with the sofa facing the television was it was hard to see down the hallway toward the bedrooms and office.
“Can it be Friday yet?” She added, kidding. “Do you have any plans for the weekend?”
John plopped down on the other side of the L-couch and propped his feet up on their newly acquired coffee table. He did not envy those with a proper work schedule that demanded they actually, uh, go to work. “Nearly,” he said, chipper as always. “And... I don’t know. Maybe.” He grinned. It was always hard to tell when he was going to have plans these days.
Gwen had some freedom in her schedule. She basically worked IT, so she just had to be available when problems came up, and had to help in developing new systems and working out bugs. There wasn’t a regimented time frame like in the, say, stock market. Or something.
“Maybe?” She asked him, grinning. “We should get some video games. My brothers have a system that’s just... one of the games they play is so much fun. We should get one.”
“Well, you know, Maybe.” John shrugged, grinning. “You know how Tara is. Either she’ll be over or she won’t.” There was no telling with that girl. “And what system? I’ve played some video games before. I liked them.”
“Right. Tara.” Gwen said, giving John a knowing smile. She saw what was happening between the two of them, even if they... didn’t? Actually, maybe she was assuming things. Maybe she was interjecting romance in healthier places so she could focus on that rather than thinking about how awkward it was working with Peter. Anyway.
“Maybe a Wii? I bet we could find some really fun Wii games for us all to play.” Tara included. Since she was Gwen’s sister now.
Yeah, no. John was pretty oblivious to what may or may not have been going on with Tara. All he really knew was that she was a spectacular person to be around, and that her sense of fun was infectious. And, okay, that possibly she needed to learn not to take apart his electronics.
“Oh right, I’ve played that one.” He ran a hand through his hair, messing it up without realizing. “I do like the bowling on it.”
His hair was pretty much always a mess. Gwen didn’t mind, though. It gave him character. As if he needed any more than he already had. “Yeah, bowling! That’s a good one. And the tennis is fun, too, but there are like... my brothers play the Zelda game, and it’s fun.”
John was fairly certain he knew what Zelda was. It had an elf? Or something? Truthfully, he’d spent a good deal of his time reading instead of playing games. Not that he didn’t like them. It was just that he didn’t think of playing them ever. But now that she’d brought it up, he kind of wanted to. “Yeah. Let’s get one.”
“Good. We can go shopping on Saturday morning for video games, and I’ll get the system set up.” She was a tech goddess, really, so it wouldn’t be hard for her to set up a Wii console. They might have to get other games, too, not just the Link one. Or Zelda. Or whatever it was.
“Seems like a plan to me,” John agreed, easily. It was something he was good at, being agreeable.
