Who: Lulu and Thor. What: Getting Thor measured for his bridesmaid dress. When: Thursday afternoon. Where: Fayth. Rating: PG-13! Status: Complete.
Thor stepped into Lulu’s shop with a smile, glad to see the woman again. She did good work and she definitely delivered on her promises. He knew he could count on her to make his dress for the wedding something that would not embarrass Kitty, and would not make him look horrible.
He wanted this wedding to be awesome, and fun, and an amazing thing. He was only responsible for his dress and the bachelorette party, but he was determined that those two things go well, or as well as he could, anyway. He nodded. He could trust Lulu, and he knew she would make this amazing.
Lulu was in her office sewing, and she looked up when one of her sales associates came into the room. She was told her appointment had arrived. Stopping what she was doing, Lulu waited for Thor to be shown into her office so she could measure him in privacy.
Thor stepped in , then closed the door and smiled to her. “Greetings, milady and welcome. Thank you for seeing me and agreeing to take on this project.” He knew it was odd and most would wave it away.
“How are you?”
“I’m well, thank you!” Lulu couldn’t help but laugh; his speech was antiquated but suited him somehow. “Please, come, sit. Would you like some tea?”
Thor settled across from her and nodded. “I would love some, if it’s no trouble. I neglected to look outside and while the cold doesn’t bother me much, it’s still cold.” He grinned easily at her.
“No trouble at all. So, may I ask why the dress?” Lulu had no problem with transvestites, drag queens, or pre-op transsexuals, she just didn’t think Thor was any of the above.
“My friend, Kitty Pryde asked me to stand with her, to be one of her maids in waiting, as it were. I take such things very seriously. I am sure I could get away with a blue tux, and look smashing, and she would never say a thing. But this is her happy day and I will do whatever I can in my power to make sure it is perfect.” Lightning crackled in his eyes when he spoke with determination.
Lulu couldn’t help but try not to chuckle. Trust Thor to take something so literally. “You will look as good as I can make you.” She took her measuring tape in hand and motioned for him to hold his arms wide.
“Thank you.I knew I could count on you.” Thor smiled at her and sat up straight, holding his arms out. He was a little larger than life sometimes, and larger than he should be for his size. He hoped she would produce something to make the day an amazing one.
Lulu had to get a stool to take proper measurements. “You seem taller than when I saw you last. Must be the fact that I’m measuring you,” she groused.
“Actually... I have changed. My dreams came with more than memories for me. I have become... different. “ He smiled down at her, grinning. ”Seems like the kind of person my dream self is is made of sterner stuff than most humans. Larger stuff as well.” He chuckled, remembering Alice and Sada’s reactions.
Lulu simply quirked a brow. “That must be nice for your female companions.” She smiled wryly, shaking her head. “If only Nikola could follow suit, then he could make me use my sick time.”
“Just one now. I’m in a relationship now.” He nodded, eyes warm, thinking of Natasha. Thor chuckled. “Perhaps he will. Dreams seem to happen differently for all.”
“Oh, Nikola is fine for me. I’m a slight woman, as it stands, he’s a bit ... more than perfect.” She chuckled, glad she wasn’t one for blushing. “I’m just lucky that he’s all right with what my dreams have made me.”
Thor grinned, nodding. “Good. We all should be so lucky.” He smiled softly for Natasha was such for him. A good fit. Definitely.
“What have your dreams made you, milady?” He was curious and now focused those eyes on her.
Lulu leaned back and smiled. She stood in front of him, carefully squinched her eyes in focus, and held up her palm. Flames crackled over the surface for a moment in a perfect sphere. Then that sphere turned to water, to ice, and lastly, to lightning.
He felt her power rise and as it turned to lightning it called to him. “Fantastic!” Thor smiled and gently eased his hands out around her sphere and his eyes went dark as lightning tentatively arced from his hands to her sphere, roiling in different colors, and bringing warmth, and curiosity with it, as he almost glowed.
Somewhere, far off, thunder rolled.
That just made Lulu laugh. “Showoff. I could make mine bigger as well, but I don’t want to burn the building down.” She stuck out her tongue, stopping the spell with a wave of her hand.
He chuckled and laughed and his hands fell. “I just like to play with the power. It can be used... tell me, have you tried channelling sensation into your power, instead of just... power?” He knew he was not explaining it well.
“Oh, no. Mine’s meant to wound. In my dreams, I’m a warrior of sorts.” Lulu wouldn’t want to try. Though Nikola sometimes seemed to like the lightning.
“I can change the feel of it. Maybe you can too. What is on one hand a weapon can be a healing or a pleasing force on the other.” He nodded to her, then smiled.
“I can try, but I don’t know if it works the same in my dreams as it does in yours.” She smiled, resuming her measuring.
Thor nodded. “All we can ever do is try.” He relaxed and stood, moved and stretched as she needed him to. He liked talking to people, and he liked being able to just relax around them.
She jotted down all of his measurements, smiling and squeezing his hand when she was done. “All right, that’s all I need. Would you like to select a sketch?” She moved to grab her pad, showing him the four designs she’d drawn out.
He whistled as he looked, and hmmed. he nodded then and pointed after a little deliberation. “They are all good, but I think I’ll go with that one.” It was the most modest of them, and not because he was ashamed of his form. He just didn’t want to freak people out too much.
“You do excellent work.”
“Well, thank you.” Lulu smiled, jotting down his measurements on the sketch as well. “Do you know what shade of blue?” She motioned for him to follower her to the bolts of blue fabric.
“Sky blue. Something like that one...?” He nodded at the lighter of the group, a pale and cool color. He had his marching orders from Kitty.
Lulu nodded, taking that bolt and jotting down the lot number on the sketch as well. “All right, it’ll be ready in three days for your final fitting.”
Thor nodded. “Excellent. I’ll be ready. Thank you, again.” He bounced and bowed to her. “You are a lifesaver.”
“You’re a good friend,” Lulu smiled. “I’m good to those who are good in return.”
He blushed, and didn’t hesitate, but his voice went deeper and echoed almost, though it was not loud. “If you ever need my help, if you ever find you need... someone to come to your aid. Call my name. I will come.” The words rang like a promise, and like something more.
She’d heard proclamations like that in her dreams, and something made her bow her head a bit in kind. “Thank you. I’ll be sure to bear that in mind.” She took one of his large hands between two of her small ones and squeezed gently for a moment.
He nodded to her in turn, his hand closing on hers, and smiled. Then he turned and left, somehow knowing he would see her again. And something in him knowing that someday, he just might fight at her side.
