Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Aveline and Alice
What: Talking dreams and sleepovers.
When: This evening.
Where: Aveline's house.
Rating: Um. G-ish.
Status: Complete.

Somehow, Alice had made the trip to Aveline's house. She wasn't exactly sure how she found the place, but she did, or at least thought she did. She looked up at the house. It was modest, and a little quaint. It even had a white picket fence. She knocked on the door.

Aveline was not expecting company. She glanced out the window and spotted Alice. Frowning slightly. she made her way to the door, hoping that nothing drastic had happened to the young woman since Aveline had seen her last. She opened the door and gestured for Alice to come in. "Hello."

"Hello. I'm in a book. Can I come in?"

Aveline blinked. "You can come in, yes...what's this about being in a book?"

She walked inside, looking around. Mostly for this shield of Aveline's. She pulled a dog earred copy of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking Glass and put it on the table. She pointed at it, "I'm Alice."

Both of Aveline's eyebrows went up. "...does this have something to do with the dreams?"

She nodded her head, sitting down on the table, "I've been dreaming about chapters. And dreaming about..other places and things, that aren't in the books but seem to happen after. Am I going nutters?"

Aveline frowned. "I really don't know what to say to that, Alice."

"Say what you really think." The girl leaned forward on her arms, eyes flashing, "I want to know."

"...I don't really know what to think. Part of me says that your subconscious has just latched onto the book for some reason." She ran a hand through her hair. "Another part of me wonders, if only because of my own unexplainable dream."

"The monsters you were fighting?"

Aveline nodded. "It was...too familiar."

"It felt real. Realer than real. Like it was full of substance and life."

Alice picked up the book, and hugged it to her chest, completely changing the subject, "I think you remind me of my sister, in a lot of ways. Who she could have become."

Aveline's expression softened. "Thank you."

"I wish..I wish.." She looked down at the book, then at Aveline, "I wish you could fight my monsters for me."

"...c'mere." Aveline wrapped her arms around Alice and sighed. She wished she could fight the girl's monsters for her. She could fight human monsters all day long, but she had no weapon for dreams.

Alice clutched at Aveline's shirt and sighed contentedly. This was calming...

Aveline stroked her hair, leaning her cheek against Alice's head.

"Thank you." She whispered, Then pulled her head back, "It must be lonely here, by yourself."

"...sometimes, yes," Aveline said softly. She and Wesley hadn't had much time for homemaking before they went to war. It wasn't a big house, but sometimes it did feel just a little too big for one person.

"I should have brought the rabbit." Alice pointed at a table by the door. "He could sit there and keep watch for you."

Aveline smiled. "You might need him more than I do. But I do have a shield."

"And its a very nice shield, but it can't compare to Rabbit." Alice smiled back. "You're a good friend, Aveline."

Aveline smiled. "Thank you, Alice."

Alice eyedarted, "Can I stay here tonight?"

Aveline smiled. "Yes. There's a guest bedroom that we...never got to use. It won't take long to make the bed."

"You're the best." Alice grinned at her, "Letting a nutters girl stay."

"You're not nutters. Life's just dealt you a hand that no one deserves getting dealt."

"Stop the bus, I want to get off."

Aveline smiled faintly. "I've had that feeling."

Alice pulled away, and started to wander around a bit, "Where'd you put the shield?"

"In the livingroom. Seemed the sort of place to put it." Aveline headed in that direction and pointed to the shield on the wall.

"Its pretty," Alice said, walking up and tracing the designs with her hands. "A bit Knight's Templar, don't you think?"

"Hmm. A bit, yes. Looks likes it's been few skirmishes of some kind." There was something about it. Aveline couldn't put her finger on what, though.

"There's a marking here." Alice touched it. "Like it deflected a great big axe."

Aveline peered at the spot. "Interesting."

"This one was a knife. And this a sword, but a jagged one." Alice seemed to understand how various bladed weapons cut. That was kind of disturbing.

"...how do you know so much about weapons?"

"I don't know. I've dreamed about wielding them. Usually a knife." She continued to stroke the shield's lines, "And I read a lot."

"I see," Aveline said. "Interesting."

"I'm usually cutting into some unusual creature. Nothing human. Somewhat monsterous."

"Sounds like that dream of mine,"Aveline said.

"Were there demonic teapots?"

"...no, just...monster-looking things

"Oh." Alice fidgeted, "I dreamed about a clockwork man. I think he was the Hatter."

"Huh." There wasn't really much to say to that.

Alice just nodded her head, and stepped back from the shield, "Its a nice shield, at least."

Aveline nodded. "It is."

Alice thought there might be more to the shield, but that was all she thought, "Can you show me the guest room?" She'd be a good girl and not crawl into bed with Aveline. Maybe.

"Yes," she said. "This way." Aveline led Alice to the guest room. It wasn't a big room, but it was cozy and functional. The walls were painted a pale buttercream, and there was a light brown wooden chest of draws and nightstand with small lamp.

Alice looked around, a little wide-eyed, "I think I love your house."

Aveline smiled. "I'm glad."

She sat on the bed, "Its a very nice house..."

Maybe she'd stay. Alice eyedarted.

Aveline tiled her head thoughtfully. "I could give you a key. You could come over whenever you wanted. Just...text me to let me know when you do."

She peered at her, "Are you sure?"

Aveline nodded. "I'm sure."

"If you weren't my sister, I would kiss you."

That actually managed to get a chuckled out of Aveline.

Alice grinned, and got up and hugged her. Life felt oddly normal. Even with strange shields and stuff rabbits.
