Big Mac yawned as they stepped out of the RV, having arrived in town, and at their hotel. He smiled as he looked around, and rubbed his belly, which grumbled. “S’food time.” He nodded. They should eat before the wake. Some.

Alex grinned as he stepped out, following along, having driven the last little bit to the hotel, and just glad to be outside again. He had a slight headache, and was looking forward to a little food, and a little bit of being a defender for Lorna, then some sleep. He nodded. Hopefully, a good night.

Thor smiled, stepping out after Lorna, finishing his coffee, and feeling refreshed anyway. He had rested a lot in the last few days, after the multiple days of reunion fun with Natasha. His smile went warm as thought of her.

“The restaurant in the hotel is thataway.:” He pointed at neon lights.

Lorna stepped down onto the ground, rubbing her eyes. Big Mac was so nice and warm, she’d actually gotten some good sleep. “Man, I could eat a freaking cow whole right now.” She trooped in with the boys, smiling a little. “You guys are awesome. I’m going to make sure you all get something awesome for doing this with me.”

Big Mac found the biggest table and sat at it, ignoring the host as she waved for them, and then smiled pleasantly. He just grinned with that face and the hostess threw up her arms and retreated...

...retreated right into Thor. He grinned at her and offered her his hand bowing to her and kissing her hand when he had it. He soon had her feathers ruffled and her sending her waiters with menus, waters, and complimentary hot bread to their table.

Alex settled to the table and shook his head at his fellows. “If we survive and don’t get kicked out, that would be awesome, Lorna.”

“Don’t look at me. My solution is take acid and grope wizard balls.” She giggled, looking at her menu. “Though, you know, maybe that would help in some situations.” She began scoping out the offerings. “Who picked this place anyway? Captain tight pants over there?”

Big Mac snorted as he chose spaghetti and nodded. “Thor made reservations for tonight. I for tomorrow, and Alex for Monday night. You get to pick the food for Tuesday night.” He nodded, then stopped talking.

Thor returned a moment later, sitting down, grinning. “Good, you are all ordering. This place is excellent! They make huge platters of food.” he nodded. “Order, eat and be merry!”

Alex rolled his eyes. “Somehow, I think this whole trip is going to be an adventure. A very strange adventure.” He chuckled. “But possibly quite fun.”

“I don’t see how we’d avoid it being an adventure, honestly.” Lorna smiled at Thor. “This place is great, thanks. I think I’m going to have some ravioli.” She grabbed some of the free bread, then passed the basket along.

Big Mac nodded, “Spaghetti for me.” He stretched, and nodded. “And apple cider.” Ayup.

Thor smiled, touching her shoulder gently. “Enjoy it, Lorna. The food is some of the best I have ever tasted, in this world or any other.” With a grin, he sipped his water. He already knew he would get the angelhair pasta and gorgonzola steak.

Alex smirked.

“I like this adventure, so far. And this place. It’s exciting!”

“Oh, wait until something inevitably goes wrong.” Lorna said with a laugh. She squeezed Thor’s hand. “I know I’m supposed to be drunk when I say this, but I love you guys.”

Big Mac smiled. “If something goes wrong, we’ll fix it.” His smile was one of both cheerfulness and foreboding. They’d fix whatever went wrong, with a certain enthusiasm.

Thor squeezed her’s back and nodded. “And we, you. So long as you bear this burden, you’ll not bear it alone.” He nodded. “I’ll help you so long as it is yours to carry.”

Alex held up a finger. “waitaminute. I’ve seen this movie.” He turned to Lorna, grinning. “As long as you need it, You’ll have my non-existent powers.”

Big Mac piped up quietly, but with a grin. “And my oven.”

Lorna sniffled a little, and hugged Big Mac, then Alex. “Thank you so much.”

Big Mac smiled and hugged her back, Then he sat back and closed his eyes. A good day, indeed.

Thor smirked and gently patted Lorna’s hand. “What else are friends for, Lorna? What else are friends for?” Thor had opinions about things and tended to act on them. Not as crazily as his dream duplicate, but pretty much so, nonetheless.

Alex chuckled. HIs hug back included a butt grope, and he smirked as he sat back. “You’re welcome.” He nodded and then sat up as the waitress came, and they all ordered.

The conversation for the rest of the meal flowed pretty easily. Lorna was pleased that all her friends seemed to like each other. She felt happier than she’d been all month, and it showed. She was animated and eager to talk, laughing loudly and frequently.

After dinner, Thor and Big Mac headed for the hotel room, since it was getting late, and after another drink, Alex rose and bowed to Lorna. “Want to take your little pup for a walk, then go fall over? It’s been a long day.”

“We’ll walk Champion, but I have to make an appearance at the wake. It starts in about half an hour.” She sighed. “I’ll get changed and cleaned up, we’ll wander, and hell, we’ll just take him with us. I don’t really want to hang out around the box with my dad in it for a long time.”

Alex nodded, and smiled. “The boys will be there, outside, when the wake starts, just in case.” He smirked a little. “Welll make sure you have your chance to say goodbye in peace, then leave in peace as well.”

She laughed. “I’ll be okay. But I do appreciate you guys looking out for me.” She led the way back to the RV, looking around before using her powers to open the door while they were still a long ways away. Champion bolted out, and ran to Lorna, bouncing and yipping. She laughed and ran toward him, and the two chased each other for a little bit.

Alex settled on the steps of the side door and watched them, grinning, then slipped in and changed, coming out in somber but sexy black shirt and jeans, and brilliant white shoes, with a red bowtie red and black vest, and a white jacket.

Lorna snickered when she saw him. “You look like Psy. Come on, Champion!” She led the way in, Champion at her heels. When the pair came back out Champion was on his leash with a black handkerchief around his neck, and Lorna was dressed in a plain black dress. She also had her purple scarf on. She smiled at Alex. “Thor wisely picked and awesome place close to where we’re going. We can walk there, if your shoes are comfortable enough.”

He stuck out his tongue and settled, waiting for them. When she came out, and spoke, he nodded, whistling. “You look awesome, and yes. We should.” He extended his arm to her. “Shall we?”

She took his arm, smiling at him. “Yep!” She was so pleased to be able to spend time with all her friends, even if it was for such a crappy reason. “I think my parents would approve of you guys. They were pretty cool.” She wished her mother was still around, so she could ask how they balanced having their own careers and dating when they first met. But now she couldn’t, and it was sad.

Alex smiled at her and kissed her cheek. “We would probably like them, too, since they raised an awesome woman.” He walked with her. “No matter why, we’re all here for you.”

“I know.” She squeezed his hand. It was so good to have friends. She knew her parents would be proud.

The wake wasn’t crowded, even though they were twenty minutes late. A few people were gathered, mostly people she’d seen every now and then. Her father’s family wasn’t very big.

She made her way around the room, hugging everyone as she passed them, and introducing Alex. Her uncle Jack was the last one she got to, because he was busy making the rounds to make sure everything was going well. He’d organized the thing, after all.

Alex was smiling, shaking hands, being charming and nice. He made a few jokes, got a few smiles and a few glances. He nodded as he stepped up and extended a hand to Uncle Jack.

Uncle Jack disregarded the extended hand and hugged Alex. “I’m glad you could make it, Little Lorna. Now we can finally get started.” He smiled at the pair, before going to stand next to the coffin. “Okay, it looks like everybody’s here, so it’s time for the big reveal.” The room quieted down, and all eyes were on Jack Dane. Jack smiled widely, “Now, if there’s one thing I know about my brother, it’s that he loved to drink, and he loved to laugh. We’re all sad he’s gone, but we shouldn’t let that be the focus tonight. What we should think about is what Arnold would have wanted. Diane, please tell the DJ and the guys with the kegs to come in.”

The room was instantly filled with talking, as a small woman led a group of people into the room. The sound system was set up, kegs were tapped, and food was laid out.

The first song to play was ‘In Heaven there is No Beer’. Lorna laughed in surprise and delight.

Alex blinked, then hugged the man back. “Er, thanks.” He grinned a little. He watched the group and the man, and chuckled. “Now this is something worth watching. “Text the boys. they’d be sad if they missed this.”

Lorna nodded and whipped out her phone, shooting off a quick text. “No way I’d let them miss this, for sure!” She had to yell over her relatives, who were clearing out a space to dance in. “Ain’t no party like a Dane party because a Dane party is like a room full of me.”

Big Mac and Thor trooped in soon and soon they were mingling with the family. Alex shook his head. “I think this is definitely where you get it from.” He smiled softly at Lorna. “Maybe you should be a party organizer.”

She laughed. “Just be quiet and dance with me, jerkface.”
