Big Mac was smiling as he led Tonks out of the house she shared with his little sister and toward his truck. Normally he walked places, but tonight, somehow, he had decided to take his new truck. And so it was that he led her toward a classic Chevy truck, a large cabbed, comfortable thing painted an apple red. “I’m glad you decided to come tonight. I’ve had a roast turkey cooking for about three hours and it should be done just after we get there.”
He smiled at Tonks as he opened the truck and held the door for her, bowing her in.
Tonks gave him a quick curtsy with a grin as she got into the truck, she liked the color. It was bright and happy something she associated with AJ and, now, AJ’s brother.
Once Big Mac was in the vehicle she said, “You’re much better than me, before AJ moved in I hardly ever cooked just for myself” even now they had takeaway quite often. “Though I think now she’s tasted my cooking she’d prefer it if I didn’t try” she admitted, “I’m a bit of a disaster in the kitchen”
Big Mac blushed as he buckled in and started the truck. “I reckon I learned when I started helping take care of AJ, when we were young.” He nodded as he pulled out into traffic and drove.
Glancing at her, he smiled. “Sounds like you have enough strengths that one weakness, s’not a big thing.” He nodded. He thought she was pretty awesome.
Tonks smiled, “You’ve always been close then?” she asked when he mentioned taking care of his sister. She’d always loved the idea of having siblings, being an only child wasn’t much fun, at least from her point of view.
Tonks felt her cheeks go red as she blushed at the compliment, “Oh I don’t know about that, you haven’t seen just how much of a mess I can make in the kitchen” she teased.
Big Mac shook his head. “Yes and no. I mostly cooked, and worked the farm. She and I... we didn’t know each other well. I was only a few years her senior and I was doing most of the work for the farm. I barely knew what i was doing, and i made a lot of mistakes.” He sighed. “I ‘m hoping to change that.”
Then he grinned at her, a smile widening into a smirk. “I reckon i might be curious. Seems to me your messes might just be as fascinating as the rest of you.”
“Well AJ looked delighted to see you” Tonks assured him, “And I’m sure you did the best you could. Mistakes are how we learn”
She laughed, “I’m not sure fascinating is the right word” she replied, “But my friend Lily assures me it is an experience”
Big Mac smirked, driving, and nodded. “She and I talk more now.” He paused, thinking, then made himself speak. “I’m not one for talking much.”
Tonks looked over at him with a smile, “Then we may be the perfect match because I’ve been told on more than one occasion that I talk too much”
Big Mac smiled wider. “I like your voice. It’s very attractive.” He nodded, smiling as he drove a little faster. He wanted to get them home past the weird weather.
She smiled and found herself blushing again, “I guess that’s good if you’re going to be hearing a lot more of it” she replied teasingly, thankful he was moving faster as she wasn’t overly keen on driving in the snow.
Big Mac smiled at her at a redlight, then peeled out carefully, and turned down a less wide and traveled road, “I live down here.” He waved a hand at a small house. It was old and showed wear and tear, but also that it had been being worked on a lot lately. It was newly painted a deep green color, and had new shutters, a new door, and generally looked half worked on, half-not.
He pulled the truck into the driveway and shut her down, glancing at the orchard next door for a moment as he stepped out to get Tonk’s door. He gestured that way as he held his other hand out to her. “And that’s where I work.”
Tonks loved the house, she could see the work Big Mac had been doing but also she could see that it looked inviting.
She took his hand as she got out of the truck smiling as she looked at the orchard, “It’s beautiful. I imagine it would be hard to be unhappy when you’re surrounded by so many trees all day” She’d always loved being outdoors and this really was a beautiful setting.
“Eeyup. I like it. Taking care of trees is nice, and they are good to you.” He nodded and led the way into his house, feeling content to have her in. It was a small two bedroom thing, and still showing signs inside of being worked on too, but in the main living room, where he led her, there was a fireplace with a low fire burning, and a large comfy couch with an end table.
“Welcome to my house. Make yourself at home.”
“Thank you” she replied as she looked around his home, “Can I help at all?” she offered, not wanting to sit before she at least offered to assist. Even if she had just told him how useless she was in the kitchen.
Big Mac grinned as he headed toward the kitchen, then hmmed. “I reckon you could stir this?” He handed her a ladle and pointed toward a large pot of hard cider. “Our drinks for the night, minding you don’t mind hard apple cider?”
“I think I should be able to manage that” she told him, hoping she wasn’t tempting fate by saying that as she took the ladle from him and moved towards the pot. “I’d actually never tried cider until recently” she admitted, “I think it traumatised AJ because our house is suddenly very well stocked with it” she chuckled, “Not that its a bad thing, it’s really very tasty” She hadn’t been sure at first but it really was lovely.
Big Mac smirked widely. He liked it, and he liked her attitude. “This is strong, a good mix. But I like it.” He grinned as he slid on mitts and opened the oven, inhaling the heavenly scent of the roast Turkey as he took it out and set the pan on a cooling rack.
“Turkey’s done.”
Tonks nodded, “Then I’m sure it’s great” she replied, after all if anybody knew what cider was good or not it would be Big Mac.
“Oh my god, that smells amazing” she said as she inhaled the incredible smell of the turkey, “And it looks great” she added as he placed it on the rack.
He smirked as he pulled out the carving knife and fork. “If you want, there are plates and silverware in the cabinet there. If you wouldn’t mind setting the table?” He waved a hand at the cabinet, then the small two person table.
“Of course” she replied smiling as she retrieved the plates and cutlery from the cabinet and set the table quickly and efficiently. She also collected two glasses and took them over to the cider pot, “This too?” she asked ladle in one hand and a glass in the other.
He carved the turkey fast, slicing it into large and small pieces, and placing them on a large serving plate with a serving fork, then bringing it to the table. He nodded to her. “Eeyup. Strong, beautiful, and smart... you’re interesting.”
Tonks chuckled as she ladled the cider into glasses, “Thanks” she replied, “But you know you’re pretty interesting yourself” she informed him. AJ had told her that her brother was quiet, almost shy but Big Mac didn’t seem like that to her. Sure he didn’t run off at the mouth all the time but that wasn’t a negative it just made it all the more interesting when he did speak.
And it spoke volumes to Tonks about the sort of person he was that he had raised AJ and taken over the business when he had needed to.
Big Mac nodded and shrugged. “I... I’m not? I don’t think so. But thanks.”
He paused, struggling with words. “I... speak only... what seems right.” Not correct, but right. he hoped he had made that clear. it was a hard thing to convey.
Tonks nodded, it made sense to her, “That’s pretty rare you know?” she informed him, “Most people talk rubbish a lot of the time, like me,” she said with a grin, “or they say what other people want to hear”
He looked at her then leaned forward and pressed a finger to her lips. “I don’t think you talk rubbish. I like how you talk.” Then he blushed. “And how your voice sounds.” His own got a little hoarse then and he looked down, flushing more. Then, in an impulsive movement, he replaced his finger with his own lips, kissing her, sudden, and then done.
Tonks only just registered he was kissing her before he pulled back, the brief sensation of his lips against hers was pleasant and very welcome. She smiled at him as she flushed slightly, this was turning out to be a very good evening.
Big Mac smiled at her shyly, and serving out the food, abundant, to both of their plates. He felt a tingle of warmth, and he hadn’t even had any cider! This was... this was good. He nodded. He liked this a lot. He snuck a glance at her as he served their food and smiled wider. She was cute, too.
“I hope you’re hungry. There’s a lot of good food.”
Tonks nodded, “It all looks really good. I doubt I’m gonna need to eat for a week after this” she grinned.
Big Mac chuckled. “Well, then, I’d best ask for another dinner in a week, hadn’t I?” He winked at her, hopeful, curious, warm. He felt playful around her as he started eating, feeling hopeful indeed.
A bright smile beamed at Big Mac when Tonks looked up at him through her lashes, “I’d offer to cook for you next time but I really don’t want to risk scaring you away” she teased lightly.
Big Mac grinned wider, then nodded. “I can cook for you. Maybe you and I can cook together?” He paused. “Or order in?”
Then he smirked. “Or try dangerous cooking.”
Tonks laughed, “Dangerous cooking? Now that sounds like it could be risky” she replied, “Though luckily I’m a risk taking kinda girl”
Big Mac smiled at her, eating and hmming. “I like that about you. And the fact that you’re pretty.” He nodded.
Tonks blushed as she ate; she wasn’t shy but she wasn’t used to quite so many compliments either. “You know I think you’re a bit of a risk taker too. I mean inviting a girl you just met back to your place; I could be completely crazy” she grinned.
“AJ likes you.” And that was pretty much his entire counterargument.
Tonks inclined her head, “You win” she smiled, “Your sister would have realized long ago if I was the scary kind of crazy”
Big Mac paused, then grinned. “She would have at least known if you were not the good kind. And some crazy is fun.” His cheeks heated, then he grinned and spoke once more. “Besides, kissing you is nice.”
“Then we’re in agreement” she told him her cheeks flushing a little as she looked up at him through her lashes, “because I thought kissing you was nice too”
Big Mac smiled softly. “Maybe we can try that some more., after dinner?” Pie flavored kisses might be nice. Well, seriously, Big Mac thought any kind of kisses from her might be nice. Yep.
“I think that might be a dessert I could definitely enjoy” she told him quietly, very much thinking the same about him.
Big Mac blushed a little, and then nodded. “Then eat. Suddenly I am... hungry.” For more than one thing, it was true. Big Mac had far less hang-ups about sex than his sister, or most people, really. He had been conceived in the apple orchard, and had seen others having sex there from a young age. Sex held no mysteries and no fear or shame for him. And he liked it. he did not do it a lot, because he was picky, but he did not feel any worry about doing it, when the time came.
Tonks grinned, “I’m eating” she told him with a light laugh. Though her appetite was now more focused on the extremely attractive man sat in front of her. Tonks enjoyed sex, she wasn’t overly experienced but she wasn’t afraid of it and was very open to trying new and fun things.
Big Mac grinned. “Eating is good.” And he started in. He ignored, as much as he could how close they were and how much he wanted to be enjoying something else. After dinner was time enough for that. He hoped.
