He couldn't take her to back to Rome where they'd spent their honeymoon, not with his kind of schedule that demanded the day have more hours, but he could take her here. SoCal wasn't Italy, of course, as Joanna's raised eyebrow so pointedly remarked when he suggested they go there. Nevertheless, she appreciated his making time for her - he always made time for her.
"I want to grow old here. The view is marvellous," she said, sunlight in her hair, toes digging into the wet sand. "I want us to be here when we're old and grey."
"Do you now?" Tywin chuckled, ignorant to the view. He only had eyes for her.
"I do," said Joanna, turning her head to look up to him, "and so do you. When our children are grown and busy with their own lives, you and I will buy a house with an ocean view and we'll spend our days lazing about."
"Sounds rivetting. I can finally read my Dickens and you... Will you be knitting sweaters with awful patterns and give them to the grandchildren on Christmas?"
"Tywin, I'm serious!" The back of her hand slapped against his chest. "Promise me we'll come here when your Mistress Work can't stand seeing your ugly, wrinkly mug anymore!"
"Alright, alright. When my Mistress Work will no longer tolerate me, I will take you here and we can 'laze about' all day. I promise."
"Mister Lannister, sir? We're preparing to land." A light touch to his shoulder woke him and for a second he felt disoriented. But then he remembered he was on his plane, returning from his business trip to Tokyo, and that his wife had died a long time ago - before her shimmering golden mane could turn grey.
Tywin's hair had since turned grey, however, and although the Mistress Work showed no signs of growing tired of him, well. He'd made a promise a lifetime ago and he intended to keep that promise.
