Big MacIntosh was up early as usual, and by the time ten o’clock in the morning had rolled around, he had collected the apples and cherries, started a stew, fed the chickens, and started in on apple pie and apple fritters. He never did believe in wasting time. He worked hard, pretty much all the time. That was how he did things.
Well, there was one time, other than sleep, when he didn’t work hard, and that was when he was going to play hard. Big Mac had no right idea what was going to happen this morning, but he was, he had to admit, right curious what would happen when Lorna and the Hotness came over, if they did.
He’d sent the Hotness a pie before, and she’d seemed to like it, so he hoped she liked the food today, too. And he was actually dressed well for his standards, wearing work clothing that fit him extremely well, and let him move and stretch as he needed to work hard. He was tall and large and he tended to walk slow, but only to avoid breaking things.
Jubilee was starving, so pie was looked forward to. She'd picked up Lorna, since a long ride on a scooter couldn't possibly be fun, and it would give her a chance to flirt and goof around. Like play really peppy trance music and sing along to it. She wore her pink sunglasses and yellow coat over a black dress, and an ancient looking medallion hung around her neck. Without that, she'd be ash in the sun.
Lorna was wearing jeans and a t-shirt under her brown jacket and red scarf. She also had a multicolor hat. She felt a little underdressed, but she also felt a little under the weather, so she had difficulty caring. Being hungover was why she didn’t drink very often. “Thanks for the lift.” The bug was much nicer than her scooter. Big Mac’s place was nice. Very peaceful. She slid out of the car, taking a deep breath of the clean air. “Oh man.”
Big Mac heard them pull up and opened the door, waving from the porch. “Come on in, lovelies.” His voice boomed out quiet but sure, and he beckoned them in before turning back to finish pulling the pies out, and putting the fritters in.
His house was cleanly kept, spare, but not spartan, and full of apple-like things.
Jubilee had felt like a dress, so she'd worn one. The Hotness abides! She got out of the car, closing the door and looking around. "I like this place. It's cool." She grabbed Lorna's hand and dragged her towards the porch! Under her breath, she whispered, "Wow he's huge!"
Lorna nodded, whispering back. “Told you.” She grinned, waving at Mac with her free hand. “Morning! How are you?” She stepped into the house, grinning at the apple decor. It was homey. She always felt at home here.
Big Mac turned from the stove and smiled. “Welcome. I’m well. Hello, hotness. I hope you like very sweet pies.” He was cutting the pie as he spoke. “And do either of you like cider? The nonalcoholic kind?” He hummed, thinking as as he sliced expertly with a large knife held in large hands.
“I have cherry, peach, and apple.”
Jubilee did wonder if the largeness extended to other places, but even she wasn't bold enough to ask to his face. "I do like sweet pies. I enjoyed the one you sent. I also enjoyed Lorna's sweet pie." The last part was said so very innocently. She couldn't really stomach much pie, but could take bites. She was trying to figure out an excuse to not eat everything.
Lorna giggled, blushing a little. “My pie is pretty fantastic.” She looked at the pies. “Also, I would love cider. Peach sounds good.” She took a seat, certain pie and cider were the answer to her hangover issue. “Did you both have a good New Years Eve?” She pulled a piece of pie toward herself, knowing Mac wouldn’t mind.
Big Mac wouldn’t have batted an eye about proving it to her, visually. He had little shame. “Good. Lorna probably has a very sweet pie and it deserves to be appreciated a lot. You should do it more often.” Big Mac nodded.
Jubilee sounded like fun and he smirked at her. Looking at Lorna, he smiled. “I went to a party. Not much happened.” this was partially a lie, but he wasn’t telling.
"I'll have what she's having," Jubilee jerked her thumb at Lorna. "Was it Stark's party? I saw the fireworks off the tower but I didn't go myself. I don't do well among large groups of people anymore. It's complicated, yo."
“Yeah, what party? I went to one this guy Carlos told me about, not Stark’s.” Fireworks were awesome, but she’d had fun at the party she’d attended. Mostly because of anonymous makeouts.
“It was. It was okay. Lot of people being weird. Good snacks, okay music, weird fireworks set off by a crazy man in a beard.” Big Mac nodded.
He eyed Jubilee, and nodded. “Not a fan of crowds.”
Big Mac nodded. “Good. Carlos is a good guy.” He’d met the man in a store buying sugar. they’d talked about prices of tea.
“Crazy man with a beard? Kinda hippy like? He had amazing fireworks with firework dragons last fourth of July!” Jubilee threw her hands up excitedly, and fireworks appeared above her head. “Uh. Oops.”
Lorna’s eyes got wide. “Oh my God! Gandalf threw a party and I missed it? Dangit, I ‘m so bummed!” The whole thing was probably really epic, and now she was a little disappointed. “How do you know Carlos?”
“Yes, that was him. Dragons and birds and stuff.” Big Mac Nodded,. blinked at the fireworks, blinked at Jubilee, then smiled. “Beautiful.” He nodded.
Then he chuckled. “Carlos was buying sugar when i was buying cane sugar. We talked.”
“He was at the Stark party,” Jubilee said, shrugging her shoulder. Mac seemed to take things in stride, which she could appreciate. “Hey everyone had fun right?”
“Yes.” Lorna said in reply to Jubilee’s question. “Though the party I was at was pretty boring until some random guy dressed up as Zorro showed up.” She finished her cider and pie, putting the plate in the sink. “Then he left, and I drunkposted on the Internet, and there were snuggles. So it was fun, all told.”
Big Mac nodded. “Seemed like.” he nibbled some pie, and offering some to Jubilee, a little cherry, and a little apple. He poured some cider for both.
“Good. You deserve fun. Both of you.” He nodded to them. “I was glad to come home.”
“Snuggles were fun,” Jubilee giggled. So had the snacking, and she could still taste Lorna’s blood. What she wouldn’t give for a reliable source that wasn’t plasma. Wolvie-cola, or Laura. Laura would be nice...
Lorna giggled and put her hand on her neck, where she’d been bitten. It had been pretty fun. “I bet, you don’t seem like a party person, Mac.” The cider was delicious, she would have to send a bottle to her parents.
“Glad to hear it.” he smiled a little, and did not let on his own lack of snuggles these days. It had been a rather long time for him. He’d had kisses and flirtings with Tonks, but that was all.
“I’m not. More of a work hard and play hard person.”
“Hey, not gonna say anything here, I’m the same way!” Jubilee grinned at him. “Wouldn’t have done uneven bars at the olympics on a broken foot if I wasn’t, y’know? But play time..play time is fun!” She felt a momentary regret. The olympics were beyond her now. Both because she would be 24 in 2016 and because of the changes to her body. Vampirism would be cheating.
Lorna laughed. “I can definitely testify that she plays extremely hard.” Which Lorna approved of entirely.
Big Mac nodded, and grinned at them both. “I approve. You two are fun. You can have cider and pie anytime.” He hmmed. “Playing hard is fun, if... rare, sometimes.” He chuckled, then and waved a hand.
“What do you two do for fun?”
“Parkour,” Jubilee responded, laughing. “Watching crappy movies, going out clubbing, writing really bad fanfic.”
“Baking, sex. You write fanfic?” Lorna perked up, looking over at Jubilee curiously. “Oh, and talking about the dreams.”
“Parkour? what’s that?” He chuckled. “Movies are good. Never been to a club. And dunno what fanfic is.” Big Mac felt a lot of confusion, but was enjoying himself anyway.
“Fanfic is where you write stuff about tv shows and comics and stuff,” Jubilee replied. She actually hadn’t done that in a long time. “Oh, I bead too, and I still do gymnastics for fun. Parkour is like ….running and jumping on walls and off walls and up walls.”
Lorna sipped her cider, more interested in Jubilee’s explanation of parkour. She hadn’t heard of it before then, either. It sounded like a good sport for a retired gymnast. “That sounds like fun!”
Big Mac hmmmed. “How did you learn? Parkour, I mean.” Big Mac smiled, then. why not? “I’d be willing to try.” He thought it might be fun.
“It’s a lot of fun. Really dangerous though. Miss something or land wrong and break your neck!” Jubilee slammed her palms together, making a cracking sound with her mouth.
Lorna blinked. “I’ll stick to getting high and watching cartoons.” That didn’t sound like her kind of fun.
Big Mac hmmed. “Can you teach me?” He was curious now. He smiled at Lorna. “Could be fun to play at sometime.” Outside of work.
"I could carry you," Jubilee boasted at Lorna. "It's not hard." She winked. She'd learned from a brunette girl she'd met that had reminded her a lot of a woman from her dreams. She wished they'd stayed in contact. She glanced at Big Mac. "Do you think you could keep up?"
“That’s true. You totally could.” It would be terrifying, but fun! “Oh, be careful, Mac. You’re awesome, but Jubilee’s pretty amazing.”
“No, I couldn’t not at first, but if you taught me, maybe someday. Can you teach me? Or would I be too much of a challenge?”
"Pfft, your biggest challenge will be how freaking bulky you are. But you got the upper body strength which'll help like whoa!"
Lorna couldn’t help herself, she started giggling when Jubilee said the word ‘bulky’. It was somehow the funniest thing she’d heard in her life at that moment.
Big Mac looked down at himself. “Bulky?” He supposed it could be used, but then nodded. “Then i’d like to learn, if you are willing. I work hard and I don’t give up.”
He paused, then grinned. “I’ll pay in food and treats?”
Jubilee eyed him a bit wondering if he had any idea what sort of food she really needed. She'd been nibbling at her pie this whole time, and her stomach was objecting. It tasted sooo good though.
"Pay me in... candy."
Lorna refilled her glass and Big Mac’s from the cider bottle. Jubilee hadn’t drunk much of hers, for obvious reasons. It wasn’t Lorna’s place to say anything about it, so she didn’t. Ollie would probably like the excess candy, and most candy kept forever, anyway.
Big Mac blinked, then set his cup down. He hmmed as things lined up. “What sort of candy?” His eyes dropped to her plate, and to her cup, and then rose to her face. “I don’t want to make you something you don’t want. Or won’t.” A little concern showed in face and voice then.
“Oh! It’s okay, my stomach is just a little crampy. It’s really, really delicious but trust me I won’t be able to keep any of it down!” It was actually the truth. The latter part anyway, and Jubilee felt good that she hadn’t had to lie.
“You could maybe trade favors instead?” Lorna piped up, to get the conversation elsewhere. “Like, you teach her something?” That was fair, right?
Big Mac nodded slowly. Hmmm. “Sure. Would you like... “ and he glanced at both. “both of you, to learn how to make scratch apple or cherry pies and candies? I do that myself, and could show you the easy way.” he nodded.
Jubilee held out her hand. “Deal!”
Lorna chuckled. “I’m good, but that’s fine, since I’m not teaching you anything.” It might be good for Jubilee to have a productive hobby, Lorna hoped she’d like it.
“Deal!” Big Mac shook Jubilee’s hand, then hmmed as he glanced at Lorna. “We’ll figure out something. You are a good person. I could learn from you.”
“I’m not the best person, but I try to be the best me I can be.” Jubilee puffed out her chest proudly. “You’ll figure something out!”
Lorna sighed when Jubilee puffed out her chest. She loved her friends. Her nice, amazingly endowed friends. “Yep.”
Jubilee did have a pretty impressive rack for a Chinese girl.....
Big Mac breathed a little sharply for a moment, then coughed, and nodded. “I... will. yes.” Even the steady man could be caught off guard by a good rack. And. yes, that was a good one.
Big Mac paused, then grinned. “This is the beginning of an unusual friendship...”
