Kitty got out the nice whiskey glasses and a couple of bottles of liquid courage while she waited for Xi'an. It would be good to talk to someone with a more normal energy level and lets face it, she really, really just wanted to see her.
Xi'an drove over to Kitty's and knocked on the door. She hoped that talking would help the younger woman.
Kitty answered the door, and let Xi'an in. She had bags under her eyes and they were a bit red - it had been an emotional up and down couple of days, "Hey." She closed the door and led the older woman over to the couch, "I'm not actually sure what you like if anything, so there's a choice. Water too."
Kitty really did look rough. Xi'an's heart went out to the younger woman. "I'll just take water for now," she said, taking a seat on the couch. "Have you been able to get any sleep at all?"
"A little bit. I had a rough night last night. You can keep this to yourself, right?" She handed Xi'an some water, and poured some for herself, "I was helping a guy find out what happened with his wife. She..he didn't take it too well. I think I managed to talk him out of his tree, but I was pretty close to calling 9-11."
"I won't tell a soul," Xi'an said. But wow. That was a rough night. "And then you had nightmares after that?"
"Well I had nightmares before that, and after that. So I can't tell if any are related." She shifted on the couch, pulling her legs up and by extension leaning on Xi'an's direction, "The..falling through the floor walking through walls dream, that was after. The other ones were all before it." She frowned, "Its like I get a string of 2 or 3 a night."
Xi'an frowned. "That's...troubling."
Kitty nodded her head, and swished her water around in its glass for a few moments, "There's one where this woman is on fire. Its a...phenomenal cosmic power moment. In another I'm watching live on tv as ..an entire island of people is wiped out." She choked up a bit, throat constricting at how strongly real the dream felt, "God it was horrible. And my dad was.... he was supposed to be there!"
"Oh, Kitty..." That last part...Xi'an knew what it was like, losing a parent to violence; she'd lost both of hers that way. She wrapped her arms around Kitty. "That's a horrible thing to dream of..."
"And you know, it felt so real, so vivid. Like it had happened." She shook her head, "Its like I'm seeing into another life I've led, but one I don't remember. I'm not sure I want to..." She took a moment to compose herself, finishing off her water and reaching for the whiskey, "...all those people died and all I can think about is my dad."
"He was the one you loved. It doesn't make you a bad person to focus on that." Xi'an gave Kitty's hand a squeeze.
"Yeah .." Kitty squeezed Xi'an's hand back, "So...I'm wondering what adventures in dreamland I'll have tonight, or if I'll end up with repeats. It doesn't get any horrific or scary on repeat viewings."
Xi'an thought for a moment. "I can go get the twins after a little while, and call it an early camp out or something." She made sure she caught Kitty's eye before continuing. "Something that traumatic, if if it wasn't real...you don't need to have to be a lone after that."
"Uhm." Kitty held Xi'an's eye, feeling conflicted. But there was comfort there, "It was just......Okay. Twist my arm, an early camp out sounds good. Put a movie on, build a blanket fort..."
Xi'an smiled softly. "It felt real to you. And that fear is just as bad as...actually losing parents to violence."
Kitty didn't entirely agree, but she wasn't going to argue the point with a woman who'd actually been there and done there, "Took me a couple of hours of calling but I did get ahold of him." She ducked her head, "I about burst into tears when I heard his voice."
"Good. I'm glad you managed to call him."
"Me too..." She fiddled with her fingers, and by extension Xi'an's, "I feel guilty. I don't even know why."
"That's a normal reaction, really," Xi'an said.
"How come you work in a library?" Kitty scooted closer, still not breaking eye contact, "You're really good at this. You could make a living of it."
Xi'an shrugged. "I like being a librarian. And I need to be able to be as emotionally together for the twins as I can be. I don't know if I'd be able to manage that if I did something like...counseling for a living."
"...point." Kitty gave her a soft smile, "You don't really have any fall back though, do you. I've got a shoulder if you ever need it. Turns out I'm good at that, too."
"Thanks. I appreciate it." Xi'an smiled back at her.
Hoping she wasn't presuming too much, Kitty let go of Xi'an's hand and wrapped her arms around the woman's shoulders, squeezing.
Xi'an returned the hug, rubbing Kitty's back reassuringly.
Kitty melted a little into it. For the moment, everything seemed really, really okay. They were just dreams.. She whispered, "I'm glad we met."
"So am I," Xi'an said.
"Huh..I didn't even need a drink after all."
Xi'an chuckled. "That's good."
Finding it far too easy to melt further into the comforting warmth of Xi'an's arms, Kitty bit her lip hard, then pulled away. She rubbed her hands against her pant legs, "So what the hell do ten year olds watch these days anyway? We'll need some movies to go with the blanket forts."
She felt..flustered.
"Well, they like the Shrek films," Xi'an said.
"Oh, I think I have those. I like the second, best. What about Tangled?" Kitty started putting way the liquor.
"Oh, they both love that, too. For different reasons, I think, but they both love it."
Kitty grinned, "Good, I love that movie. Its good for adults, too. I have most of the Pixar line-up too." She looked sheepish.
"Pixar is amazing. You really can't go wrong with them," Xi'an said with a grin.
"Oh?" Kitty stepped forward, "Which is your favorite?"
"I love them all, but Finding Nemo has kind of a special place. I didn't see it when it first came out, but I rented it when the twins were four--our parents...died when they were two. They didn't really remember anything about that. But I had to sneak out of the room after the opening scene to cry."
"Oh..I can see how..." She nodded her head, and finished lamely, "Yeah. That had to have been a little hard."
Xi'an nodded.
"I've always been partial to Monster's Inc," Kitty replied, wondering at the fact that they're talking about kids movies. "It was my favorite until I saw Up."
"Up is amazing, yeah." Xi'an smiled.
"Pixar can tell a better love story with no dialogue in ten minutes than Twilight," Kitty said, grinning.
Xi'an laughed. "Anything is a better love story than Twilight."
Kitty raised an eyebrow, "Tell me you're a Browncoat and I might have to ask you to marry me."
"I enjoy that! Luckily, I got into it after it was on DVD and I could watch it in the right order. It was a 'the kids are asleep, I can watch anything I want' treat," Xi'an said with a chuckle.
Kitty stared at her, "While I try to find something resembling a ring; Zoe, Kaylee, Saffron or Inara?"
"...ooh, um. Toss up between Zoe and Inara."
"I can totally see that," Kitty replied. "Zoe is all kick ass tough and then Inara is..Inara." She paused, then eyedarted. That probably should have been a sign.
Xi'an grinned. "So. Your answer, same question?"
"From those four?"
"Yeah, or anyone, really."
Kitty licked her lips, "Well. Saffron could probably turn me into a little melted puddle, but I'd have to say Kaylee or Zoe. But Mal's a given." She grinned.
Xi'an grinned.
"Zoe, for the aforementioned badassitude, and Kaylee because she's adorable."
She added, "And I guess brains are a little sexy"
That made Xi'an grin even more. "Yeah, brains are kind of sexy."
"We'll have to do a marathon sometime," Kitty replied, blushing. "Maybe a bit of BSG too. Really, anything, I need someone to geek out with."
"I like the sound of that," Xi'an said.
Kitty pumped her fist a little, gleefully, then contained herself, "Sorry."
Xi'an chuckled. "It's okay."
"So should I get the blanketfort set up now, or wait for the twins? They might enjoy that. And it might distract them from trying to.." Kitty waved a hand, searching for the words.
"Yeah, let's let them set it up." Xi'an grinned. "I'll give them a call before I pull out to tell them to grab anything they want to bring."
Kitty nodded her head, "I'll find the blankets and order something to eat." She walked over, and kissed Xi'an on the cheek, "Thanks...I'd be more of a mess without you."
Xi'an flushed slightly. "You're going to get a big influx of cool points."
Kitty felt her lips tingling, "I hope so. I'd like to be able to cash them in at some point."
Xi'an smiled. "Probably."
"Great!" Kitty made a shooing motion, "We have movies to watch and couches to cud--sit on and watch the movies from." Oh god
"...I'll be back in a little while."
Kitty's grin was a little strained as she closed the door, then leaned back against it and thonked the back of her head against it.
