Who: Tenoh Haruka, Kaioh Michiru, Meioh Setsuna and a lone Sentinel
What: The Sentinel detects the Sailor Senshi. It promptly gets its ass kicked.
When: Sometime recently, before the New Year.
Where: Out in the desert.
Rating: PG13 for violence, maybe?
Status: Complete. :v
There was an unusual power source, and the sentinel was tracking it. It remained hidden for the time being, not knowing the potential danger.
It waited.
Unusual power source, in this case, meaning the Sailor Senshi. If that thing had ever encountered one before... well, it was probably a surprise it was still remotely functioning. True, their powers weren’t exactly fully-developed yet, but with the way things were progressing...
Well, it probably wouldn’t be that much longer. Even if Haruka considered herself vastly overpowered as things were - because hey, you didn’t ‘accidentally’ blow up a car every day...
Michiru had kept to herself the last, mostly to go to some obscure location in a desert area to train herself so that she was at least relatively close to how fast Haruka was. It hurt like hell, yes, but she knew she had to do it or she’d be left behind. This was one of those days, and despite being mostly alone, she could feel Haruka coming closer through the link.
The sentinel continued to scan, learning the danger that it might face. Like others of it's kind, it had learned to be more cautious.
It was only natural that Haruka had brought Setsuna along too. If they were going to train, to try and expand their powers, it was best they do it with all three of them present - they were, after all, meant to be a team - the Outer Solar System Sailor Senshi.
“We haven’t kept you waiting too long, have we?” Because if anything, Haruka was a good boyfriend! Even with her tendency to get waylaid by the smallest things... “I brought Setsuna-san. The team’s UraNepPluto, so...”
Three, it counted three of them. They weren’t mutants but their signatures weren’t entirely human, either. At least not base-line human. Point being, they weren’t normal, and that made them a threat, and threats had to be eliminated.
Technically, they were aliens, so it was probably right to be suspicious. It was common for Haruka to feel wary about... this sort of thing, so, whilst she transformed, it wasn’t down to any fear of anything. Except maybe fear of being stuck in the goddamn miniskirt.
At the sight of the odd creatures shifting into another form, the sentinel grew alarmed. It revealed itself, skirting out from behind a rock and targeting the nearest senshi with a searing hot laser. It darted back into cover.
Neptune was only just able to feel the oncoming of energy and move out of the way. But not without singing her side with a burn. “Aaah.” Held her side while steadfastly looking around to try and sense where that came from. “Show yourself. You coward.”
Again, the sentinel emerged from cover, shooting several more blasts before going behind another rock! Robots can’t feel shame, but they do have self-preservation instincts.
That self-preservation instinct may well’ve been all that was keeping Uranus from blasting it into several very tiny pieces. She willed the Space Sword into her hands, Setsuna transforming into Pluto the moment the laser shot out. “Nobody hurts her and gets away with it...”
And really, if it thought that rock would save it... she’d give it a little longer, just to see if it really was stupid enough to try again. Nothing a World Shaking to the face couldn’t solve, right?
“I’m fine, Pluto.” Sure it hurt, but it wasn’t like she hasn’t had something worse before. She manifested the Deep Aqua Mirror and held it up. It glowed slightly as she tried to find the weakest point on the rocks that it was behind. The spot that would cause the rocks to topple forward and onto it. Neptune pushed her lips together before giving a glance to the others, then to the slight crack at the base of the left side of it..
That was enough for Uranus to go off. “World Shaking!” It was definitely a good thing they’d been working on their aiming skills over the last few days... it’d make this easier.
The rocks collapsed on top of the sentinel, but as the dust settled, some of the rubble began to move. It pulled itself up, and out, shuddering with each movement as it visibly began to repair itself.
In what universe did that make sense? Pluto arched an eyebrow, dropping into a more defensive stance. “Be careful. We don’t know what this thing is capable of...”
Wires dangled exposed, and it’s head was half-crushed but that red eye glowed menacingly. It had added what looked like an old tv that someone had dumped illegally in the desert to it’s chest. The tv turned on, but it only showed snow, and gave a surreal, eerie glow. It lurched forward, clearly damaged, like a mechanical zombie.
“What the hell...” Watch in frightened amazement, not that she’d let on. How is it even able to manage that. In hopes that the water would cause faults in it’s repair, she lifted her hands up. “Deep Submerge!” Sending the attack to hopefully directly hit the creature.
The water smashed into the Sentinel, submerging it and washing it into a ravine. There was a great clattering of steel, and then a massive explosion rocked the ground. Somewhere, high above, there was rumbling as the shockwave loosened more rocks. A massive avalanche of stone and dirt and boulders began to tumble down towards the desert floor, and the senshi there.
Oh goddammit. Uranus swore under her breath. “Run for it!”
There was no way around that, was there? Sure, they could try and blast the rocks away, but... they weren’t that powerful yet. It’d be a recipe for disaster.
Neptune nodded and ket tight grip to her mirror before hopping out of the way of one of the boulders, nearly missing it. “This is not how I expected training to go!”
A very large boulder, twice the size of a humvee, came crashing down towards Pluto, bouncing like a child’s toy.
Oh, the universe had it in for them. There was no escaping that. Pluto just about managed to evade it, thankful she’d decided against bringing the Time Key. That thing would’ve made things even harder to dodge! “At least it’s good for something!”
There were certain things even their most intensive training couldn’t recreate, after all.
The rumbling lessened, until the last of the boulders came to a stop. The desert air became still, choked with dust and the smell of burnt electronics. And then, gradually, the sound of insects resumed, and somewhere, a hawk cried.
That... had been one of the strangest things Uranus had ever experienced. Sure, the aliens in the desert had been one thing, but this... entirely another. Especially since Michiru’d gotten hurt. “Neptune, one of us needs to look over that wound... just in case.”
Neptune took a hold of her mirror, ignoring her partner’s words to look into the mirror. When all she saw was smoke, she looked back up to her. “It should be fine, Uranus. Don’t worry. It only stings.”
“If you insist...” Hopefully, that thing was down and staying down. At least they’d know how to handle another, if they were unlucky enough to attract any more. “Never seen anything like that before.”
