Thor was feeling much better, and in fact sometimes, he felt like he had never been in the accident. Then, one of his still aching ribs would creak, and he was reminded it was a very real thing, even if he didn’t feel it as much.

He lay in his bed now, aching from the tests this morning, which had included all the usual things plit some strength and movement tests. He swore the radiologist was evil, and enjoyed the cries of his victims, but maybe that was just his imagination. He lay back, trying to get comfortable, and hoping he was getting better.. His surgeon was supposed to be there soon to let him know whether more surgery would be needed.

McCoy was sort of hoping that he might bump into that pretty friend of Thor’s on the way in to see him. It was a silly thought, but he couldn’t help himself. And he chastised himself as he headed down the hall, knowing that she wouldn’t be there now Thor was awake and recovering. He knocked on the open door as a courtesy, then stepped into the room before being invited.

“How are you feeling today?” McCoy asked, though that was a mechanic. He was simply walking through the steps of what was expected from him. He was carrying a clip board that had papers on it he could hardly believe. By some miracle, Thor had healed. Almost completely. Perhaps completely.

Thor smiled and looked at the doctor and nodded. "I'm feeling a lot better. and hopeful that you have good news for me."

Thor had been out of his life for entirely too long. and he felt like he had been energized, altered, made better. And he felt incredible.

“I do.” McCoy said, coming into the room. He set the clipboard down and pulled his stethoscope from around his shoulders so he could check Thor’s vitals; temp, blood pressure, heart and lungs, reflexes. “Everything’s looking really good to me. Surprisingly good, actually. I’ve never seen anything like it. It looks as if you... you’ve healed. We want to keep you for observation. With your permission, I’d like to keep you another week, but we’re going to transfer you to a different wing, so you’ll have some more privacy and less intervention. But I want you close and monitored, just in case these results aren’t...”

Thor sat up, moved, coughed, and breathed as needed, and nodded as he listened. His smile slowly few. “Understood. I know it’s not a normal thing, but if I got a nurse to stay around me, would it be okay to go home as long as I was monitored at all times? Or would that be a bad thing?” Thor was sick of this place, but he’d do as the doctor ordered.

“Under other circumstances, I’d send you on your way. Your charts--everything looks remarkable, really. I think... we’ll see. I want you here for at least another week. We can talk about in home care after that.” Of course, McCoy couldn’t keep him there. If Thor wanted to leave, he could do so against medical advice. And McCoy wouldn’t dare try to keep him. Not with results like these. He didn’t dare let Thor leave, though, just in case there was a mistake.

Thor was disappointed but he nodded. He’d follow orders. As much as he wanted to mutiny. “OKay. Sounds good. Doc.” He smiled a little. “Did your daughter get back home okay or is she still with you now?”

“She’s still around. I’ll send her home after New Years.” McCoy said. He had a deal with his neighbor, a woman who had known Joanna from infancy, to watch her while he came in to work. He cut his hours back considerably during the Christmas season. “Thank you for signing that autograph,” he said, softly. “It really made her day. Year, even.”

“Sounds good. I’m going to have a small get together here, in my new room, on New Year’s Eve, respectful, quiet, and dignified, with no alcohol allowed. If you like, bring her by. I promise, at least during normal hours, that all will be well.”

Thor smiled.

“Maybe I will,” McCoy said with a nod. He didn’t have other New Years plans with his daughter, and she’d be thrilled to get to spend more time with Thor. “You page me if you need anything, all right? I don’t want to hear about them mistreating you.” He said, nodding.

"I will. And thank you, doctor. I can use all the goodness coming to me. " Thor smiled and nodded.

McCoy nodded and picked up his clipboard. “We’ll see about moving you somewhere a little more private, somewhere without the constant rush of emergency personnel outside of your door.” He said, making his way to the exit.

Thor smiled at McCoy. “Okay, then. Thank you. I’ll do my best to keep things quiet. See you later.”

He raised a hand and lay back. He was well content with things.

FIN!
