Who: Pansy Malfoy and Katniss Everdeen When: Saturday afternoon, Dec 8 Where: Hospital What: Girls are brought in after the Sentinel Attack Rating: Lowish, reference to what they've been through, possibly swearing. Status: Complete!
Consciousness returned to Katniss in a haze. She heard voices, and what sounded like sirens, before she drifted out again. When next she came to, her entire body felt like it was floating. She could feel pain throughout, but she just didn’t care. Whatever she was on was wonderful. She turned her head and opened her eyes.
She could see Pansy in the bed next to her, and realized they were in the hospital.
Pansy was flying. They gave her morphine, that made everything slow down and speed up at the same time. There was some pain, sure, but nothing she couldn’t handle. They’d had to pop her shoulder back into its socket, but the doctors thought there was more damage than that. And not a whole lot to be done for the broken ribs except to make sure there was no internal bleeding, wrap them up, and make her rest.
The doctors were talking and talking, and Pansy was going in and out. She finally turned to see Katniss looking at her. Pansy lifted her good hand and gave Katniss a thumbs-up.
"That was amazing," Katniss said. It sounded like her voice was echoing a bit. She lifted her own hand in a thumbs up, but it was more of a half-assed attempt at a thumbs up.
Pansy nodded, but abruptly stopped when the world started spinning. “It was. You kick ass with that bow.”
"Not..not that good." She said, rolling her eyes. It made the world spin more and she waved a hand to make it stop. She wanted to get off the ride! "Just lucky!"
Pansy laughed, then coughed, pain shooting through her. “No, skilled. We need to get you a real bow and arrows. I’ll get you one. The best money can buy. You saved my life, you know.”
"Don't have to," Katniss mumbled, but she didn't have the strength or desire to protest much more than that. Besides, she'd learned when people were just being nice. And Pansy was being nice.
"Wonder where that...thing came from."
“I will.” Pansy was making plans in her drug-addled mind. She was going to get Katniss the best bow money could buy, and a whole collection of greenhouse stuff. Whatever she could get her hands on. She thought--no, she knew--that she owed the other girl her life.
“I don’t know.” She said, then closed her eyes. “...I’ve never heard of anything like it. It was straight out of an action flick.”
"Or something in my dreams." Katniss let her eyes close as she talked. "Like the..Capitol. They had these hover planes. And these nasty...things..made us fight each other. Could control an entire arena..."
“That’s not what that was.” Pansy said, frowning, as she turned to look at Katniss. Though, her heart was starting to thunder now. If she could do magic, some part of her dream was coming true. What if there were parts of Katniss’ dreams that were coming true, too?
“That was something else.” She added, though now she wasn’t sure who she was trying to convince.
"Never saw anything like it...but it's something that ...that they would do. Death machines..." Katniss shivered, and her heart monitor started to beep faster.
“Oi! Oi, Katniss!” Pansy called out to her friend, frowning deeper now. “That’s not real, it’s just a dream!” She said, though she knew exactly how real it felt. “Come back to the here and now.”
"OKay..okay....okay..." Katniss tried to pull herself back. She opened her eyes. She was at the hospital, her friend was with her. Whatever had happened was real and hadn't been the Capitol.
God she wished Peeta were here.
“It’s gone, now. It’s toast,” Pansy said, grinning at her own joke. “I don’t know where it came from, but it’s gone now. We’re safe.”
"You were so amazing," Katniss whispered. "You stopped it! You stopped it with magic!" It was like something out of a book. She knew they'd be dead without Pansy. If either of them have been alone, probably. "We stopped it together, I think."
“We did. I couldn’t have done it without you.” Pansy said. “They have my wand now, though.” She added. Her wand was put in the bin of things with her pocket contents, her clothes, too, now she was in a hospital gown. “You were more amazing. That shot went straight in that thing’s eye.” She closed her eyes for a moment and breathed deeply. “... you don’t think there are more of them out there, do you?”
"..hope not..not everyone can conjure a bow, or fire one." She wondered what had happened to that bow. It had an odd weight to it, but maybe with experience she could get used to it. "I...uhm..."
Katniss waited for a wave of dizziness to pass. "We make a good team."
Pansy nodded. The world swum around her again, but it wasn’t as bad as before. She tried wiggling her fingers, but her arm was still pretty numb from whatever it was they’d done to it. “We do.” She turned to look at Katniss again.
“I’m glad we became friends. Awkward as hell to say, but when we’re outta here I can blame it on the vicodin. Or morphine, or whatever it is they have me on.”
"I love you man?" Katniss tried joking, then giggled.
Pansy giggled, too. But it started to hurt, so she stopped and grinned instead. ''I love you, man." she repeated, and left it at that.
