A Dream
Who: Roy, several DC characters, a couple of the ranch kids
Where: The ranch, The streets of several comic cities
What: A nightmare
When: Now
Of all the things that had happened with the weird dreams so far, at least they hadn't happened when Roy was the one staying over at the ranch. It would have been a real problem to explain to the kids just why he was up in the middle of the night pacing instead of sleeping. Sure, with some of them, a good part of the nights he stayed over were spent awake anyway, but the adult in charge actually being the one with the problem? Not the best sign ever, especially when they were only now really starting to trust him and all. So, that had been a positive sign in the recent mindfuck that was his life.
Had Been being the operating word here of course. It had started out like most of the other nights so far. He'd gone off with the group he'd been assigned to, made sure nobody had anything contraband, got them all settled in, and fielded a couple questions before the lights went out. And then, he'd waited for the first signs of somebody to end up in distress, but surprisingly, and pleasantly for all of them involved it didn't happen. Overall, a rare and quiet night. He could appreciate that overall. At least until the scene shifted a little.
This time, Roy could almost tell the vivid dream was coming. For one thing, it FELT the same as the Batman one had, and when he looked down, he was wearing the same leathers he'd had on in the first scenario, had a quiver strapped to his back, and was clutching a bow, some kind of recurve, smaller than the one he actually used, and painted red, in his hand, and he was running at full tilt, knowing they were after him, and he had caused it, been the reason everything had gone fucked up, and that the only thing he could do now was run and keep on running.
He had a weapons cache in a nearby apartment he'd set up for the purpose, but why he didn't remember. He just knew he had to get there, stock up, get himself as far away as possible from all of them, for as long as he could. If enough of them got to him, there wouldn't be any hope and they had all been compromised already, but if he held out, kept running, found a way to get to somewhere safe, where he could catch his breath, and warn the only people that he trusted now. But first, no he had to keep going, first. He had to push on before...If they got hold of him, if they infected him, Roy couldn't have that happening. Not now.
Instead, he kept on running, always running, down into a subway station of all things where he kept on going, until an arrow, one of OLIVER'S of all things shot out at him, and he jumped forward, knowing the man was there, and then, the air was covered with smoke, someone else, a lot bigger was running at him from the shadows, and even though he struck, he was knocked down, he lost his breath, as a train came hurtling towards him and he couldn't think or find any way out...
Roy woke up to Tomas shaking him lightly, Jason holding out a cup of water, and Drew quietly calling his name. Well this was the first time his own nightmare had woken up the kids. He wished that he could tell them it would be the last.
