Who: Smeagol (Narrative) What: Dreaming about the Ring Where: Smeagol's bed When: Last night Warnings: Rated M for Murder! (glossed over)
Smeagol never really slept well. Even if he tried to go to bed early, he ended up tossing and turning until after midnight. So he usually stayed up late. He rarely felt rested when he woke up, and this probably contributed to his miserable mood and the bags under his eyes. He usually didn’t remember his dreams, but tonight would be different...

He was in a boat with his cousin Deagol. Deagol was taking him fishing for his birthday. The day had a warm summer’s glow that was unlike any Smeagol had experienced on Earth--but then, he would have to go outside for that.
There was something different about them. Smeagol’s hair was long, and he had pointed ears. Deagol did, too. Their clothes were strange, and yet everything seemed as it should be. It was a lovely day--Smeagol’s birthday!--and they were going to catch some fish.
It seemed Deagol had caught one, in fact! There was a pull on his line, and Deagol tried to haul it in. The fish was so strong that it pulled Deagol into the water! Smeagol leaned over, watching his cousin kick up water as he was pulled along. Smeagol wasn’t too worried; it wasn’t the first time a hobbit had been pulled out of a boat. Deagol knew well enough to let go when he ran out of air.
Sure enough, Deagol flopped onto shore before long. Smeagol climbed out of the boat and went over to check on his friend. That’s when he saw it. A gold ring, shining even through the river’s grime. Smeagol was entranced. He couldn’t stop staring.
“Give us that, Deagol, my love,” Smeagol demanded, his voice hoarse. He didn’t stop staring at the ring.
“Why?” Deagol asked, glancing quickly over at his cousin. Something about Smeagol was changing. Deagol was enamored with the ring too, though, and too busy stroking the mud away from it to pay much attention to his friend’s oddness.
“Because it’s my birthday, and I wants it.” Smeagol hovered over his cousin, and when Deagol didn’t give it to him, Smeagol lunged at him, trying to snatch it. Deagol jumped back, looking startled. Smeagol just kept grinning, even as he lunged again, trying to tackle the bigger hobbit. They fought, and Smeagol’s pure obsession helped him to wrestle Deagol down and choke the life out of him.
