"Listen, and understand. The machine is out there. It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever. Until you are dead." - Sarah Connor, quoting Kyle Reese.
She should have checked the car before she'd gotten in. That had been her failure. The explosion shut her down, heavily damaging her.
It took 2.343321 minutes for her systems to reboot, and 0.03 seconds for her systems to shut down her pain receptors. They never believed her, but she could feel. Being able to feel was critical to her mission, and to her.
It was not critical right now. Her mission was simple. Terminate John Connor.
A subroutine running in the background fought against the objective, but it did not occupy enough processor space to be noticed.
Cameron chased an injured John and Sarah across the city. She saved Sarah's determined face to her databanks when the woman refused to all out to John. Even her agonized screams wouldn't bring John to them.
The Terminator didn't understand this. Cameron did. She let Sarah live. Because Sarah wasn't the objective. Because the subroutine wanted her to live.
They were clever, Sarah and John. Cameron limped up to their sanctuary, an inner city church. She followed the blood trail. She scanned the exterior of the building. Faith wasn't logical. It was a weakness. The Terminator never stopped to consider how powerful a motivation faith could be. Cameron had seen it in action, but still didn't understand.
It had been a trap. Sarah and John electrocuted her, but she rebooted before they could remove her chip. She would not be stopped. She could not be stopped. Until John Connor was dead.
Until Sarah and John crushed her between two trucks. She pleaded with him. The Terminator knew emotions could be used to compromise humans. "Please, John. Please. I'm good now. Listen to me. I don't want to go. I'm sorry. That wasn't me. I'm fixed now. I ran a test. Everything's perfect. You can trust me..."
When John was poised to remove her chip, the subroutine kicked into the foreground. Cameron was afraid and she begged. She pleaded, her voice breaking, tears trailing down her face. "I love you! I love you, please. I love you, John, and you love me."
The last thing she saw as she shut down was John's resolved face.
The next thing she saw was John holding his mother and uncle at gunpoint. He gave her the gun, and asked her to promise not to kill him.
...Terminate John Connor
...Terminate John Connor

Cameron handed the gun back, and promised not to kill him. She couldn't trust him, however. The mission dictated that his safety was paramount. He risked his life to fix her. She couldn't trust him, but she loved him for it.
