With her hands trembling she threw her phone across the room and sliced three more times into her thighs, watching as the blood dripped down onto the porcelain of the tub. She knew where to avoid major veins, making sure just to leaving the marks and deep cuts inside. She held tight to the blade she’d removed the the box cutter she’d used when unpacking. Everything was not going as planned, and Haruka bringing up those memories just meant she needed a release.

With the wounds not doing satisfactory pain she reached for the lighter, the blood still tinged on her fingers. She held it up and flicked the starter a few times until she got a full flame. She held it up to the side of her knee. She flinched when she heard the door slam. She looked down to the bad wounds on her thigh and went to poking at them.

Minako to the rescue! She’d steeled herself for the worst on the way there, and was right by Rei’s side once she’d gotten in. “Rei-chan...” She knew that Haruka was more than beating himself up over this. It was like a vicious cycle of... terribleness. “We need to... do something about these. And not make them worse.”

“Please... Just go. I don’t want you seeing me like this.”Reached down to separate the flesh on one of the deeper wounds so that the bleeding increased. She knows she shouldn’t be doing this, and it’s why she didn’t want it brought up in the first place. “Just leave. I know what to do with these...” Even as she spoke she’s realising that these are far deeper than just a thin bandage can cover.

First things first would be needing to stop the blood flow.

Minako was quick to push her hand away, moving to grab a towel from nearby and press it firmly against the wound. Good thing she had some kind of first aid training... “I’m not leaving you. I promised I’d help you, and I’m going to.”

One thing Rei would do well to remember: Minako never, ever broke her promises. No matter what.

Rei flinched at the pushing to it, that hurt. Next thing she knew she heard that awkward ringtone signalling that Mamoru was calling her phone. Most likely to ask why she hadn’t shown up for dinner like they were planning to. She cringed and sighed trying to ignore. “Don’t answer that..”

That... was possibly the weirdest ringtone ever. Completely ignoring that, Minako answered it, ignoring Rei as best she could. “Hello?”

That definitely wasn’t the answer Mamoru was expecting. He’d just been calling out of idle curiosity, largely because Rei hadn’t come to their little... outing thing. He wasn’t sure what to call it, really. “Is Rei there? I need to speak with her...”

Huh. That was weird. Minako looked back at Rei. “He sounds worried about you. Whoever he is.”

“Tell him I don’t want to talk to him...” Tried her best to ease the blade back in. She was stubborn and rage filled at life and herself. She felt she needed to punish herself and this was the best way she felt she could do that. And she managed to get too deep that time.

Minako may well have sworn, rather loudly. “Stop that! You’re just going to hurt yourself even more...”

Thankfully, she was speaking loud enough for Mamoru to hear. “Look, I’m a doctor. I can be there in... five minutes. Just try to keep her calm, keep pressure against whatever she’s done...”

“...Right.” Minako didn’t think pulling the blade back out would do her any favours. Dammit. “Rei-chan, please...”

And all this attention for it just made her burst into tears and desire to curl up and melt into the wall. “Don’t hurt me... I’m sorry I upset you. Just don’t hit me.” She looked up to Minako with fearful eyes and tried not to move her thighs too much.

Minako bit her lip. Haruka had warned her, to some extent, of what she’d be running right into, but... she hadn’t expected it like this. “I’m not going to... I promise. You’re safe with me, and that doctor will be here soon, and it’ll all be okay...”

It was actually slightly less than five minutes later when Mamoru came through the door. He’d stopped to get an emergency medical kit that’d likely hold Rei over for now... that was assuming the worst, of course. Maybe it wouldn’t be needed.

Like he was ever that lucky. Minako called him into the bathroom, and he was quick to try to stem the bleeding. There was only so much he could do, of course...

“Get away from me! I WANT TO BLEED TO DEATH!” Tried to pull away and managed to get the blade in further to the side to get dangerously close (but not close enough) to a major artery. Mamoru should see that. If anything he should be able to find a low dose xanax in the kit to at least calm her down enough to keep her from having too many of the thoughts.

Thank the gods for medical training. Mamoru was quick to find that xanax, once he’d made damned sure to stop her moving the blade any more - it was definitely too dangerous to remove it. One wrong move and something terrible could happen.

“Rei. I need you to take this for me, okay?” He was careful to keep his voice gentle, not wanting to give her excuse to lash out and hurt herself even more. “It’ll help. I promise.”

Rei hesitated at first but obliged not too long after. She swallowed it and focused on trying not to go into a panic attack. She’d been doing just fine without Haruka, without Minako. And yet somewhere in the back of her mind she was thankful. “Why do I want to die? And why won’t you let me?”

“Because we’re your friends, Rei-chan...” Minako gently took her hand, squeezing lightly. “We love you. That’s the power of friendship!”

God, that sounded cheesy. Mamoru had to agree, though, even as he kept working to reduce the bloodflow. He had to at least get it slowed before they did anything else... “You’ve got a lot to live for. You just have trouble seeing it.”

“But I don’t want to live.” Looked up to Minako before pushing her head into her chest. “Why is everything falling apart? I can’t do anything right. You can forget our deal... I don’t want you with someone that’s like I am. You deserve better. You’re sweet and funny, creative and you have such a happy warmth...”

Minako shook her head. “I think you need someone like me around... otherwise, you’ll get all depressed and moody again, and someone else will have to come and poke you with ~LoveLove~...”

“You still want to stay with me?” Looked up with awestruck eyes. “I can’t promise you I’l be perfect but I will never cheat or hit you...” Bit her lip and let out a weird noise as the startings of the xanax began to kick in. First time having one so her body started to relax and she simply moving to rest her head against her shoulder. “I feel funny now...”

“It’ll do that. Don’t worry.” Mamoru was getting at least a little pleased with his progress on this. At very least, his efforts would probably make it easier for the doctors at the ER to deal with her...

Minako lightly squeezed her hand. “I’m here to stay. Promise!”

It wasn’t too long before she was actually nearly asleep when she heard a knock at the door. She looked up to hear the door open and cringed, hoping to whatever deity there was it wasn’t her land lord.

It wasn’t, it was Michiru dragging Haruka along to help someone. She knew warning signs, and had drilled Haruka into telling her what happened. She held tight to the obviously distraught woman’s hand and led her into the room. “Rei...” When she found them she tensed and stepped back a few. “Oh god... Is she going to be alright?”

Rei looked up at her with dazed eyes from the medicine, obvious sign that it was doing it’s job.

Haruka had spent most of the journey there cursing Michiru for so much as considering bringing her along. She’d not wanted to face this at all, dammit... which would be why she was definitely avoiding looking.

“With any luck, she’ll be fine... there’ll need to be an ER trip, though. I can’t deal with some of these out here.” Which was a great shame, considering how much that was likely to cost.

“No... I don’t want.. To go. I can’t... afford.” She couldn’t, which is why she was avoiding dental care and seeing anything for her mental issues she knew she had. In shifting her thigh she may have started up a little bit more bleeding. Not that she noticed, she was too focused on looking up at the two who’d just come in.

Michiru looked her over, it was not something she liked seeing. She went to speak but Haruka cut her off.

Thankfully, Mamoru was still paying some attention. Clearly, having a doctor around was a handy thing.

“I’ll cover it. Don’t worry.” It wasn’t just guilt talking. Haruka genuinely felt that Rei needed as much help as possible - not that she was looking at her yet. Nor was she likely to. “I’ll do whatever I can to help...”

At her words Rei only mouthed a thank you and tipped her head forward out of weakness from the medicine she’d been given. It would be both a hindrance and a blessing. She’d be able to just be carried to the ER without protest, but the blood flow would be increased.

Michiru gently took Haruka’s hand. “Who has the biggest car? I want Aino-san and you both in back with her while Haruka drives. He’s the fastest driver and knows where he can speed and not get the police on his trail. Will be faster than any ambulance.” She agreed completely with helping her on one condition...” Rei. I’ll ask you now when all you can do is respond. We will help, if you promise to find a therapist and get yourself well.”

She could only respond with a nod of her head, but it was at least something!

It was a start. Haruka sighed, running a hand through her hair. “We’ll just take mine. It’s easier... I know for a fact that Mamoru-san doesn’t have a car. Or, well, one that works.”

It’d come up during one of their talks about the dreams. She hadn’t really stopped mocking him for it since. “With any luck, I’ll be able to avoid most of the traffic. I have a sort of sixth sense for stuff like that.”

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One 8 hour ER visit done and over with and the only thing she can really focus on is the fact she’s being carried by very strong arms and a very comforting warmth. Next thing she knows she’s in her bed and being pulled into another set of arms. Just as warm, but softer and sweet.

Michiru sighed and took Haruka’s hand once she’d set Rei down. She took to holding around her upper arm and looked to Minako. “You sure you don’t need us staying here as well?” She looked to her watch. “Chiba-san should be here with the medication shortly... But we can get you something to eat?”

Minako shook her head. “I... I think I’m too nervous about Rei-chan to eat. I know she should be okay, but...” And what a time for her stomach to make a weird noise, making her blush. “...Even if I am hungry.”

“We can bring you something you can eat while you’re next to her? Something in a cup so you don’t make a mess?” Tried her best to channel calming energy through the link to keep Haruka from going insane from anxiety. She knows full well Haruka is blaming herself for all of this.

Rei let out a weird noise before tucking up closer to Minako. It was warm and she smelled nice.

It was then that there was a very loud and angry knocking at the door. “Miss Hino! I need your rent now!” Banged his fist so loud that she startled up, letting out a bellow of pain and gripped tight to her thighs.

Minako was quick to act, pulling Rei’s hands away from her thighs and pulling her back into her arms. “It’s okay, Rei-chan. It’s okay...”

He wasn’t getting away with that. Haruka quickly moved to the door, pulling it open with perhaps a bit too much force. “Oi. Keep it down... there’s nicer ways to ask about that.”

Richard looked him up and down and arched an eyebrow. “She whoring herself out now? I need her rent. I’ve given her more than enough I.O.Us. She’s three months behind and if I don’t get it tonight she’s out.” Slammed his fist to the door and forced his way in. Seeing Minako and Rei like they were made him eyetwitch. He’s trying to be civil and not make a dyke comment, which gives him few props. But he’s still an ass.

At this rate, Haruka was going to break his face in. “She needs to rest. I’ll thank you not to call my friend a whore.” It was bad enough when idiots accused Michiru of it, really... “If it’s that big a deal, I’ll pay it. I’m not letting you kick her out of here.”

Especially considering that she’d need time to recover.

“You’ll pay the two thousand and thirty-six, plus the four hundred in late payment fees?” Folded his arms and gave Haruka a look that screamed belittling.

Michiru chose to focus on just trying to help calm Rei down alongside Minako. “Please keep your tone down, sir.” Flashed a look to Haruka screaming they’d take care of him when he was alone in his own place. They were allowed to be trolls when it came to actually showing justice.

Ouch. Haruka nodded, trying to not give him the satisfaction. At least they’d be able to get revenge on the bastard later... “It’s a lot to pay, but I can handle it. For her sake.”

“Alright. I want a check now.” Folded his arms and glared.

“I can probably pay in cash.” Stood up and walked over to her bag she’d put in the drawer and opened it.

“Cash?!” Stared with wide eyes to the female, then back up to the presumed male. “What?!”

“You don’t recognise us?” Haruka rolled her eyes, looking over to Michiru. “I guess there are still people who don’t read the tabloids. Or watch the news. Or... anything.”

Honestly, she’d thought everyone knew them. They were a fairly unique pair, after all.

It took him a few minutes but his eyes went wide. “Oh... My. Oh my god. You!” Pointed to Haruka then to Michiru. “And you!”

Michiru giggled and pulled out her wallet and into the back part where the larger bills were. She took out 2 thousand dollar bills and set them into the mans hand after coaxing him to open it before focusing on getting the rest of it. “Yes, us.” Counted out the rest of it, which meant her entire wallet was now empty and pushed her lips together. “Now. You are to treat her nicely, and send her rent bills for the next three months to us until she gets back onto her feet. I know money is hard for a lot of people, but it should make you a bit more understanding.”

She held her hand out to show the state of Rei. “We just returned from an ER visit because she harmed herself to the point of needing it. I expect and hold you to being a bit more compassionate to those ill in health. How would you like it if you had a child who was being treated the way you were just recently treating her?”

Richard looked down at the money, his hand shaking as she spoke. What kind of woman was this? Her words hit into his very soul and he couldn’t deny her any of it. “Yes, Ma’am. I’ll... See myself out.” Turned with an obvious burden shoved onto his shoulders and quietly shut the door behind him.

“There.” Held her chin high and went to putting her now empty wallet into her handbag.

“...That, Michiru, is one of the many reasons why I love you.” Honestly, she was amazing, and Haruka had to wonder how she did it. Especially considering she’d been rather convinced that punching the idiot was the only method of action that’d do anything. “I think he’ll think twice before trying anything else.”

And yet, some part of her still wanted to throw a World Shaking at him. That was probably inescapable.

“We’ll deal with things later...” Gave a quick glance, hopefully signalling she was giving her permission to do whatever she wishes as revenge, without getting any suspicion from the other two. She perked up with Mamoru came in. “Was the money I gave you enough to pay for the prescriptions?”

“More than enough,” Mamoru had a sneaking suspicion that the pharmacist had taken a little off because of who he was, but he couldn’t say for sure. It’d certainly come out cheaper than he’d expected. “How is she?”

“Michiru might’ve terrified her landlord a little... Aino-san’s looking after her.” And she seemed to be doing a pretty decent job, which was surprising. Nothing about Minako said ‘good with injured people’.

Rei twitched slightly in her sleep and gripped tighter to Minako. Much like a child would with their mother. She let out a slumber sigh and kept randomly nuzzling her head to keep comfortable.

“I just wanted to make sure this was easier for her. From what I read in their texts... She hasn’t had the easiest of pasts. I want to make sure things only go up.” Took the bags for the medicine and looked them over and began filling out a chart of when she was to take them. When she needed meals with them, when things were fine with just a glass of water. “Aino-san?”

Minako had the distinct feeling that Rei was using her as a teddybear. Really, she didn’t mind or anything, it was just... her arms were starting to fall to sleep. That was going to suck later. “Yeeeeeeees~?”

Someone was definitely back to her GenkiGenki self.

“I need you to keep a good eye on her. Make sure she stays in bed and keep her entertained. I also need you to convince her to let me have the keys to her building and permission to run things while she recovers. If anything I can see what exactly is going wrong...” Walked over to them and gently brushed Rei’s hair behind her ear. “Poor thing... Oh! I used my phone to order you a pizza, with orders to knock three times then come in and give it to you so you don’t have to stand. Alright?”

There was a brief moment of stunned silence. Michiru was doing all that for Rei? Wow. “Got it. You can count on me!” She flashed a V-sign, or tried to, ending up making a distinctly unimpressed face at her now-numb arm. “...Pretend that worked.”

Michiru drew her hand up to her mouth to keep the giggling soft. “I also sent word to your work, explaining the situation and offering to go in for a few interviews during the time you will have to be away. I will bring by some snacks tomorrow once I’ve rested and can walk around a shop or two. I can also purchase you a few things to more comfortable to change into. I’ll ask your size in private over text so that the boys don’t hear.” She gently brushed her hand up and down Rei’s arm. “Just take good care of her...” She had to vent her mothering nature on someone before she exploded!

“Not every man is that interested in the size of women’s clothes, Michiru...” Haruka definitely wasn’t, at least partially because it just reminded her of how much a pain things were before she started dressing and acting male. “You’re really good with this, though...”

Maybe that was one of Michiru’s hidden powers: being awesome at organising stuff.
