It had seemed like common sense to try and infiltrate Mugen via that star-shaped hole in the dome the Daimon had created. Using one of their helicopters, it was a pretty simple operation – get in, deal with the infestation of Death Busters, and get out again. Nothing for someone with their power level.
As Neptune quite rightly pointed out, it wasn't any form of ordinary barrier. In the back of the helicopter, Pluto couldn't help a sense of unease. This seemed far too easy so far... true, she could sense the fight on the ground, but it was so unlike the Death Busters not to expect them to attack from an alternate angle.
The helicopter drew closer. The Daimon awakened, glaring up at the helicopter in a giant, unified mass, before lunging outwards to encircle it, intent on crushing it and obliterating its occupants. Even with their extraordinary resilience, that...
They didn't have much more time to think. The Daimon started pulsing energy through the helicopter, electrical energy making all three of them damn near immobile from the pain... and through it all, Pluto mustered the strength to raise her Time Key. Her friends were not dying like this.
"Time Stop!"
And in the instant the helicopter exploded, time stopped in its tracks. When Uranus dared to look up, she could scarcely believe her eyes. "This is...?"
Did the Soldier of the Skies honestly think she'd die in an explosion like that? Pluto couldn't even pretend she knew. The penalty for breaking the taboo was already starting to gnaw at her, weakening her body.
"Pluto..."
"What did you do?"
Ah. Right. She had forgotten to fill them in on this particular aspect of her powers. It was always uncomfortable to speak of the taboo, to acknowledge her weakness. "I have stopped time. Now, please go... right now."
Uranus wasn't going to let it slip that easily. "You hid this much power? Even from us?"
Pluto sadly shook her head. "No." This wasn't a power. It was a curse, a heavy burden she'd had to bear for millennia. Alone. "This is the greatest taboo. As Guardian of Time, I cannot break it..."
"The greatest taboo?" It felt so strange to hear another voice say it. Uranus almost seemed concerned, although Pluto reasoned that could've been down to the punishment's continued effects on her.
Always the more caring, Neptune was the one who inevitably asked. "What'll happen to you?"
And try as she might, Pluto couldn't force herself to answer. She gave her allies – no, her friends – a soft smile. "If you are able to meet the real Messiah..."
It seemed like Uranus just caught on before Pluto's powers teleported her to the relative safety of Mugen. Neptune cried out her name, but it was all too late. There was no saving her now, no turning back from the broken taboo.
Pluto closed her eyes and embraced her fate, letting time return to its normal course. How long had it been for this body...? Centuries? Millennia? She knew the explosion would make short work of it. 'Maybe one day, we'll meet again. If the Messiah wills it.'
