When: Feb 14th

Elsa had marked a few dates on her calendar. There was April 20th, of course, the coffee date that had turned into so much more. It was as good a day as any for a one year anniversary. (and oh, did she have plans)
But there was also her first Valentine’s Day with someone in … awhile. And a nice normal date was hard enough to have in the OC.
So she’d tried her best to make it kind of special, first taking Rapunzel to a fancy dinner, and then… well she had a hopefully romantic surprise left for her once they finished eating.
But first, dessert. Elsa rubbed her hands together as it was placed on the table. That chocolate cake had been on her mind the whole meal!
Having a nice normal Valentine's Day date with Elsa was just what Rapunzel needed. It didn't help that some weird dwarf with a bad Cupid outfit had shown up at her door this morning, sang a cute Valentine, but then left her with disgusting candy. This date would make up for that start to the day.
Elsa looked beautiful as usual and the food had been great. Rapunzel laughed at Elsa's reaction to their chocolate cake, "I am definitely letting you have the first couple bites because you are giving it some bedroom eyes right now."
Elsa was trying to pretend that Nothing Unusual Had Been Happening, and so far she was succeeding. At least as long as she had chocolate cake and also the most perfect girlfriend, “I know you’re jealous, but I’m afraid my first love was and will always be chocolate.”
She gave Rapunzel a wink, before picking up her fork and digging her fork in. But then, she grinned and lifted it up towards Rapunzel. “Go ahead, sweetheart.”
"I am not jealous, but I am a little concerned with your chocolate consumption ability sometimes," Rapunzel giggled the words out. Sometimes it was crazy how much chocolate Elsa ate, but she never complained because she usually got to partake as well.
It set butterflies in her stomach off when Elsa offered the first bite. A bright grin appeared on her face as she leaned forward and ate the forkful of cake, letting out a happy noise, "this is how I know you love me."
“I’ve got nothing on my sister,” Elsa assured her. “She’s the crazy one.” Crazy in the good way, at least. Sometimes Elsa worried Anna took too much on herself, but that was a conversation for another day.
“But you’re right, it’s true love if I’m willing to give up my chocolate to you.” She rubbed her toe against Rapunzel’s foot. It was a little silly, making proclamations like that and it wasn’t like she was love crazy or anything. But it was Valentine’s Day and Rapunzel was here and shining like the sun.
It was okay to be silly. “Speaking of, make sure mid-april is clear on your calendar.”
Rapunzel couldn’t help but chuckle. The interaction between Elsa and Anna was quite sweet to watch and almost made Rapunzel wish she had a sibling, but she was more than okay being an only child. She didn’t find Anna that crazy, but she wasn’t going to correct her girlfriend.
“It is,” Rapunzel agreed with a grin and then arched an eyebrow at Elsa, “Oh yeah? Is there something important that I should be remembering?” She then proceeded to wiggle her eyebrows to indicate that she had not forgotten about their first date anniversary was coming up. How it had already been a year she had no idea.
Make no mistake, Elsa loved her sister and didn’t actually think she was crazy. Unless chocolate was involved, anyway. She lifted her head and quirked her eyebrow just so, “Well, if you’re going to forget then I guess I can return what I bought to Victoria’s Secret.”
“Well, that’s just rude,” Rapunzel gasped out as she let a hand playfully fly to her chest and pretend that she was wounded by those words, “I certainly know there was a very cute girl I met back in April last year. Wonder how she’s doing…”
Rapunzel let out a grin as she grabbed her own fork to take another bite of the cake, “I’m so glad we got to have such a nice night out. I love you.”
Elsa giggled, nudging Rapunzel’s foot with her own again. She was eager to show her the romantic surprise, but she had to finish her cake first. “I’d take you out every night, if I could. Well when I’m not busy anyway. Though it’s a bit of a slow period right now.” She speared at her cake, and then took a bite of it.
“What about you? Work and stuff I mean.”
An amused smile played over Rapunzel’s lips at the comment. She was more than happy to have Elsa take her out every night. Being with her had been a bright spot in her year and she always felt warm and happy when they were together, “It’s been going well. The one show I was working on is finally being released so we have a small break on that before we find out if there’s another season. Going to start working on a new show in the next couple weeks.”
“I’m so excited for you!” Elsa reached for her hand, squeezing it. She liked the way Rapunzel’s eyes were lighting up, and wanted to see them light up more, “What’s your favorite part? Like for me it’s always been the design phase. Throwing ideas onto the paper.”
“I really love reading the character description that we get and then coming up with the design. It’s so much fun to suddenly breathe 2D or 3D dimension into a 1D character,” Rapunzel was pretty proud of a couple of the characters that she helped develop. It was definitely a group thing, but it was always exciting when something she suggested ended up making it to the final design.
The spark in Rapunzel’s eyes made Elsa’s heart beat faster, and she grinned in a way that indicated she wanted to squeal, just a little, like she was getting energy out of Rapunzel’s. But they were in public and she could contain her enthusiasm long enough to get to that romantic destination she’d planned. So she signaled the waiter so they could take care of their checks.
“Do you think you’ll ever do something all your own?”
“Who knows, maybe? I’d definitely need help because I don’t work on the scripts or anything myself. That’s why I like being the children’s book illustrator and not the author,” Rapunzel pointed out with a chuckle, “So, got any new pretty buildings being built right now that I need to go admire?”
"If there's anyway to help, let me know," Elsa said, thinking she could at least help with environmental design. Her ability to draw people wasn't bad but she wasn't on her girlfriend's level.
"And nothing yet, though I can show you some of my latest designs."
Getting up, Elsa left a tip and then held her hand out to Rapunzel, "We should hurry, we'll miss the thing if we don't!"
“That would be great,” Rapunzel said calmly before suddenly Elsa was declaring that they needed to get moving or else they would be missing something important. She grabbed her purse before taking Elsa’s hand and letting the woman lead her out of the restaurant, “are you going to give me any hints on what we’re about to go do?”
“Not yet, but I think it’ll be pretty obvious by the time we get there.” Elsa wasn’t in so much of a hurry that she didn’t stop to kiss Rapunzel once they got to the car, though there was always the danger of such a gesture lingering. She loved kissing Rapunzel, the feel of her warmth and her closeness chasing away the chill that always lingered on her skin.
She pulled away before she could commit a public indecency, opening the door for her girlfriend before getting into the driver’s seat. Elsa had found a secluded place along the ocean where they could park and watch the sun set, and then the stars come out.
Peak romance, at least she hoped.
"Oh my god, this is perfect," Rapunzel declared as they made it to the ocean and found the perfect spot to park in, "this is going to be wonderful. Thank you, I love you." She was definitely gushing a little as she leaned over to kiss Elsa and then snuggle with her for the sunset.
“I love you,” Elsa whispered, snuggling in against her and resting one of her hands on her girlfriend’s lap. She found it difficult to keep an eye on the beautiful sunset when she had a beautiful drop of sunshine in the car seat next to her. Elsa thought her hair seemed to be glowing in the light.
