Who:Kristoff and Elsa
What:Meeting
When:Backdated to december snow things
Where:just in the city
Warnings:Literally none.
Kristoff was just off a shift, and he couldn’t help but stop and stare at the snow covered city. It wasn’t like anything he’d ever seen before. He’d lived in L.A. for the majority of his life, and had never even noticed snow at this elevation. It didn’t make any sense. News channels blamed global warming and tried to scramble over eachother to do so. Kristoff wasn’t really looking to blame, but it was strange.
He stuck out a hand to touch one of the falling snowflakes and ended up with quite a few in his hand. “No way this is normal.” He rolled his eyes. Pretty yes, normal..hell no. It was early evening by the time he was done at the hospital and standing outside that coffee shop he’d ended up in front of. Head in the clouds from a combination of exhaustion and awe.
The snow was one of the few things about December that Elsa still liked, even if she had nothing to do with it. That was actually the best kind of snow, in her opinion. She knew when it was coming and could plow her drive with her powers, but she couldn't stop it, even if she wanted to.
She was on her way back home from an interview when she stepped out of a coffee shop with a coffee in hand. Elsa didn't expect to see someone she recognized, let alone Kristoff, and nearly droppd her drink. Which would have ruined her blouse and skirt. And it was snowing and she was in heels but it wasn't exactly like ice was a problem for her.
But that... that was Kristoff, right?
Running up and hugging him would probably be weird, so she refrained, "Pretty, isn't it?"
Kristoff hadn't been expecting anyone, but he must have looked a bit stupid staring up at the sky. He'd never seen snow before. It was new. He didn't even own a proper winter coat, he just had on a thin hoodie. But it was unmistakably Kristoff. Blonde hair, bright blue eyes, larger build.
He glanced over at the direction of the voice and nodded. "I've lived here my entire life, I've never seen it before." it snowed on TV, but that was different than experiencing it.
It really was Kristoff in all his himbo glory. Elsa suppressed a grin, “It’s a bit of a surprise, isn’t it? But kind of magical all the same.”
If he hadn’t really noticed it previous years, he must have not yet dreamed. So she’d have to be careful.
And also figure out how to hook her sister up which felt like kind of a role reversal. “So I guess you’ve never had a snowball fight? Built a snowman?”
“Surprise is an understatement.” He stated as he glanced over at her and shook his head. “I’ve only seen it in movies and on T.V.” He’d lived in L.A. all his life, it wasn’t supposed to snow like this. In fact it was completely illogical.
“I don’t get it, I’ve lived here forever and never noticed this before.” He said with a shrug as he looked over at her with a raised blonde eyebrow. “You’re into this snow stuff aren’t you?” She’d asked about snow activities after all. Things he never would have even thought to ask about.
“Maybe you’ve just never really had your eyes open to it before,” Elsa suggested, before raising her eyebrows. She supposed the snow-flake earrings might give it away, but she’d never figured Kristoff for the kind of man to notice such things
“And I kind of am. I love the snow, and snow related activities, and ice. I’m Elsa.”
He only noticed the earrings when a bit of light hit them. Then he saw they were snowflakes. Accessories weren't something Kristoff really paid much mind to, but those were really nice. He didn't mind the snow, it was interesting. But cold. "How many snow related activities can there be?" He asked with a bit of a laugh as he nodded to the introduction. "Kristoff. Can't say I've ever tried snow activities. What would you recommend for a newbie?"
She grinned at him, giving it a quick moment to think about before responding, “Well, there’s snowball fights and building a snowman. Toboggans of course. I’ve built a few snow-forts and palaces in my day, too. And that’s not getting into actual winter sports!”
Once, she’d dreamed of doing something like figure skating, and occasionally wondered if it was too late to start.
He’d never seen anyone this excited over snow, it was amusing. He watched her list off the various things and raised an eyebrow. “Snow fort eh, I’d like to see one of those I think. How complicated is it?” He had no idea about the magic, but the idea of living in a massive snow fort sounded pretty amazing. He’d liked regular forts as a kid, so why not a snow fort?
Just wait until he met her sister. Anna somehow got more into it than a literal Snow Queen.
“Depends on if you’re going for speed or defensive capability.” She tapped her chin with her finger, “And also if you have someone with a structural engineering degree to make it sturdy.”
Her powers could certainly help too but having an interest and training in designing buildings could go a long way to stability and strength.
“I don’t have one of those, now I wish I did. Might have been more fun than medical school.” He grinned, though medical school was rewarding to him. He liked being able to help people. It was his purpose. Eventually he’d get to be an MD and do even more. But for now, just a med school student.
“Probably cold to live in though.”
“Probably not as cold as you’d think. With a fire pit inside and built right it would be warm and not actually melt.” Her magic would probably help with that as well, “There was still some blood, but probably a lot less.”
She was joking. Probably.
“Want to build one?”
He glanced over at her as she explained how the ice fort wouldn't just freeze them to death and nodded to her reasoning. "The fire wouldn't melt the ice?" He'd never seen hotels in remote places obviously that pulled it off just fine. He had to admit, he was completely curious. Even considered her offer seriously for a moment. This was probably actually insane.
He grinned. "One thousand percent yes I do." he had so many questions, but apparently she knew what she was doing, so he'd follow her lead. "What do we do first?"
“If you do it right it won’t. The ice melting and refreezing on the surface makes it stronger.” Elsa nodded at him, then looked around, “There!” There was a park across the street, with a healthy amount of snow and she bounced on her feet, “Okay first we need to dig out a center area and start building walls! The stronger the base the taller we can go!”
He was weirdly excited about snow forts. Why not do something random and different than his usual day off. The usual thing was boring. It included go home, veg on netflix or youtube and not think about anything remotely related to medicine or doctoring. “Then lets build the best base ever. Got any tools or anything? Or we can meet back here in half an hour with whatever we find?” He was up for either option. This was weird, it was like when you were a kid and you met a person, and knew they were just instantly your friend. That was how he felt with Elsa, and he’d never had that feeling before.
Elsa clapped her hands together excitedly; she hadn’t built a snow fort in a long time, and certainly never with Kristoff. Well, unless one counted the dreams.
“No need!” She pointed across the street, “I can buy a shovel there, and the rest we can do by hand.” Elsa planted her hands on her hips, “Unless you think you can’t handle it?”
Making someone else's day, and a fort was absolutely what he needed to change up his boring routine of work and netflix on days off. When she challenged whether or not he could handle this, he raised an eyebrow at her and laughed. “Oh, I can handle it.” He wasn’t sure how pretty it would be by hand, but as long as it stood up he supposed that’d be just fine.
Once Elsa had acquired a shovel, it was then a matter of actually building up the fort. She actually used her powers sparingly, only once when one of the foundations looked weak and then very surreptitiously. There were obviously things she couldn’t reveal to Kristoff until he started to dream. Which made her wonder about what she was going to tell Anna.
Introducing them somehow would be the best, she decided, kind of as a nice surprise. Elsa didn’t want to keep Kristoff a secret from her sister, after all. She just needed the right moment.
Anyway, she focused on the fort. “You know, all it really needs is a flag now.”
“I might have just the thing actually.” He stated once he backed up and admired the work they did. He reached into his backpack that had been abandoned a bit ago on the ground not to far away. Inside there was a small desk flag that was meant to go on one whenever he actually got his own desk, it had a little sun symbol on it and was a royal purple color. The symbol of the hospital he worked in. “It’s no American flag, but maybe it’ll do?” He handed it out to her. “Care to do the honors?”
“I like it,” Elsa said, smiling approvingly as she took the flag from him. Somehow, it seemed appropriate. And it wasn’t like she had Arendelle flags handy, though suddenly she wanted to print one up just because she could.
With actual people watching who weren’t yet dreamers, she couldn’t use her powers, so instead she climbed in her heels and everything, and then planted the flag atop one pillar.
“Ta~da!”
He applauded her as she stepped up to place their small flag. It wasn’t exactly very impressive in it’s own right, but it was theirs now and he laughed. “I think we make a great team, Elsa..and I had fun.” He grinned as he pulled out his phone to take a picture of their ice fort with the little desk flag and everything. He even stepped into the frame to get a picture of them both at an awkward selfie angle, but making sure she knew it was happening obviously. He held up a victory symbol with two fingers, and made sure to get their flag in there as well. “Actually had the most fun I’ve had in a while.” He stated after taking the picture. “I can send this to you if you want.” He’d been reaching the edge of a little burnt out when it came to just going to work and going home. This was an excellent change of pace.
She grinned, watching him and feeling very pleased with herself. “I’d love it!” And having some proof for her sister would help too, she thought.
Still unsure how to go about getting them to meet, but that was a problem for future her, “Thank you so much, Kristoff.”
"Any time. It was fun. I haven't really done anything like this before." He grinned as she said she did want the photos after all and he took out his phone to send them. "Come up with anything else snow related, I'm completely in." he gave her a wave as he picked up the backpack and headed home.
