Who: Sarawat Guntithanon & Octavia Blake
When: Backdated: Early October
Where: A Park
What: Sarawat is taking a break from studying
Rating/Warnings: Family Friendly
Status: Complete

Despite being in Orange County since August, Sarawat was still adjusting to actually living in the US. He’d visited the US many times growing since his father had grown up there, but he’d never gone to school there or spent more than a few weeks at a time there. School aside, the hardest part of his adjustment phase was learning to live with his new roommate.

Had he stayed in Bangkok, he likely would have had his own room at University and he wouldn’t be dealing with someone who not only went through his snacks from Boss and Man, but also didn’t seem to understand that if he had his earbuds in and was doing homework that wasn’t the time to try and hold a conversation with Wat. His roommate may not have cared about his own grades, but Sarawat wanted to prove to his parents and himself that he’d made the right decision in making the move to the states with them instead of going to University back home like originally planned.

Having finished all his homework for the day, Wat had decided to get out of his room and do a little more exploring around the area. Grabbing his guitar, he’d slung it over his shoulder before heading out the door. He’d wandered around for awhile before coming across a park not too far from campus and after finding an empty bench, he placed his guitar on his lap. He took a moment to make sure it was tuned then he began playing the first song that came to mind, singing along, softly in Thai, hair falling into his eyes as he leaned over the guitar, long fingers plucking the strings.

Octavia hadn't particularly liked her last dream. It had been a doozy and had her mind going in a million different directions. The idea that Lincoln could get in trouble for rescuing her, for being a traitor to his people, bothered her.

She'd needed to get out of the house and had let her brother know, so he didn't worry. That was the last thing that Bellamy needed. Even if he'd told her time and again that she was going to give him gray hair. Mainly due to her hiking. Something that she'd planned on doing, but she'd stopped hearing a guitar not that far off.

So, for the moment she stopped and watched Sarawat, listening to him sing. Just like the grounder language, whatever language he was singing in caught her attention. It was a beautiful language, whatever it was.

Wat was used to people stopping to watch him when he was playing out in public and with his eyes closed, he hadn’t yet noticed if anyone had stopped this particular time. It wasn’t until he finished the song that he finally noticed Octavia, squinting slightly as he had the feeling that he’d seen her somewhere before. “Hi. Did you like it?” Despite having learned English at a young age, he still possessed an accent when he spoke that was a dead giveaway that he wasn’t actually from the US.

Between the network and around town it was definitely possible that Wat had seen the younger Blake around. However, the network didn't really do anyone justice most of the time. She does, however, give him a smile when he looks up. It was obvious that he wasn’t from around there, but that was fine. One of her friends whom she’d taken on as a brother had a french accent. So, the whole not being from the US didn’t bother her one bit. Different languages were amazing.

"I loved it. That was beautiful. What was that exactly, if you don't mind me asking."

“It was a Thai song.” Sarawat said as he set his guitar down to lean against the bench while looking up at Octavia, trying to place where she was familiar from. It was possible that she was in one of his classes, but if he saw her almost every day wouldn’t he recognize her right away? Sure he may have been a little bit of an introvert and didn’t usually approach people first, but he was fairly good at remembering people’s faces. “By a group called Scrubb.”

Unless Wat actually went to the local high school, he wasn't bound to see the young Blake girl every single day. Around town, maybe. Especially when she loved to get out and go hiking. That probably wasn't it either. Of course that wasn't it.

"That was beautiful."

The sound of it alone had been amazing, his voice with it even more so. Sarawat wasn't the only one trying to figure out where they'd seen the other before. Those eyes watch him, almost boring into him before she realizes exactly where she'd seen him last.

"You're on the network."

Which would probably sound weird to someone who had never been before.

“Thanks.” Wat couldn’t help but smile a little bit at the compliment and flicked his head slightly to try and clear the hair out of his eyes as Octavia spoke again. Even then it took him a moment to place her exactly and when his brain finally made sense of it all his eyes widened slightly, “Octavia.” The name came to him easily and he nodded in response, “Yeah, I am.” Now it made sense why he’d recognized her and why talking to her hadn’t felt too awkward. It was because he’d already been talking to her for the last few weeks. “Do you wanna sit down?”

It was weird when running into people from the network. Sometimes they were easier to talk to than others. Even if it was someone that hadn't been met in person yet, like Sarawat. So, when he says her name she can't help but smile a bit. "The guy who has dealt with the crazy people."

“Sure.” Moving over she sits down beside him and turns a bit in her seat," How've you been, Sarawat? No more people trying to flirt with you. Right?"

Sarawat laughed and shook his head, “No. No more people flirting with me; if that’s what she was even really doing.” He hadn’t seen the girl who had complimented his teeth since that afternoon and he was glad for it. That had been an extremely strange interaction and he really didn’t want to repeat it, “Other than that I’ve been alright. Mostly just classes and dealing with my roommate.” He sighed, thinking about the fact that he was going to have to go back to his room soon.

"Good."

Honestly, it was a weird way to flirt with someone. Even Octavia wasn't entirely sure what the girl had been trying to do. Why would she compliment the man beside her on his teeth? That seemed like a weird way to flirt. Or maybe she wanted to be a dentist, or something. Even that didn’t make much sense, but it made more sense than just complimenting someone’s teeth to flirt with them.

"Uh oh. What's up with your roommate?"

Wat ran a hand through his dark brown hair as he tried to recall whether or not Octavia had replied to his post about his roommate, “He waits until I’m studying to try and talk to me, which isn’t really that bad, but I’ve caught him going through my stuff a few times. Mostly the snacks my friends from home sent me.” He was still looking into getting something that he could lock to put the snacks from Boss and Man into so that he wouldn’t have to worry about them. It felt a little extreme to have to do something like that, but when he was living with someone with boundary issues, it seemed like a logical thing to do.

Octavia merely sat and listened to Wat talk. Luckily, for her, her big brother didn't bother her if she had her headphones in. If he needed something and she was listening to music then he'd message her. Easier than startling the hell out of her. She does, however, scowl at that other part.

"Is the stuff you send something that needs to be refrigerated? Or something more like cookies and chocolate. Asking for a reason," she tells him with a soft smile.

Sarawat shook his head, “Nothing that needs to really be refrigerated. It did come from Bangkok after all.” Yes, there were a few bottles of one of Sarawat’s favorite drinks, but he had a mini fridge for those and so far it was just the snacks in the box he’d had under his bed that his roommate had gone through. “A few people have suggested I get a lock box to keep them in.” It really was a hassle, but he would do it if he had to.

There's a look in the young Blake's eyes when he talks about the lock box. Something occurred to her though. It wasn't exactly a nice thing to do, but she didn't care. The idea that someone was stealing snacks from someone else didn't jive well with her.

"There's always a ksafe," she tells him. "Not exactly a lockbox, but it has a timer on it. It won't unlock until that timer runs out or you, as the owner, unlocks it." Though, she shakes her head. "Or, if worse comes to worse, have your friends send the stuff to me. And if the roommate asks what happened, just tell them that because of their idiocy, your friends stopped sending things. When in fact, you still get to enjoy the great food because no one is there to steal it."

Though, she gives him an almost wicked grin,” Or, little ol’ me can have a talk with them and see how they feel about having a girl rip into them about their ignorance because ‘Bitch, making shit is hard work.’ “

Sarawat’s brows rose as he listened to Octavia’s various ideas, “Those are all good ideas, but I think I’ll probably just get something with a lock. I want to move out of the dorm eventually, but I know my dad would only let me if I could find someone else to live with.” Sarawat knew that his dad would pay his half of the rent for a while, but that meant he needed to find one or two other people to live with first and since he still didn’t really know many people, that would likely take a while.

"Locks are such a pain in the ass."

She didn't mean that and it showed. Though, she gives a nod when he mentions wanting to move out. That was something that she could understand, sort of. Even if she's never wanted to move out a day in her life. Why would she want to? Her big brother took care of her and maybe one day she'd move, but not today or any time soon.

"Does it have to be another dorm?"

Sarawat shook his head, “No, but it was easier to live on campus right now instead of with my parents cause I don’t have a car and I’m not really comfortable driving here yet,” Sure, driving on the opposite side of the road wasn’t that difficult, but he’d only driven in America a few times and it had always been with someone else who was used to it. “I just have to wait for now. It’s only been a month anyway.”

It's probably a bit obvious that the wheels in Octavia's teenage brain were turning a bit. There was something on her mind and she turns a bit more, watching him. If it got a bit unnerving, she didn't mean it to be. She just knew that he needed help and if she could help in any way, then she would.

"I could talk to my brother."

Sarawat’s brows rose and he shook his head in response to Octavia’s words, “You don’t have to do that. Really, I’ll be fine.” It had only been a couple of weeks and Wat was sure that things would get better with time and even if it didn’t, he would figure something out eventually, “For now it’s easier living on campus. Thanks though.”

Hey, it's not like they didn't have a big enough house. If she could then she'd drag all of her friends to the Blake house. Toss them in a room somewhere and be done with it. That way they had a place to stay. To come and go as they pleased.

"Well, the offer is there if you change your mind."

“Thanks. I appreciate it.” Wat said, smiling. Despite having only talked on-line up until now, Sarawat felt that he and Octavia could be really good friends, which wasn’t something Sarawat did easily. For the longest time Boss and Man had been his closest friends and he had worried that he might not make any friends after the move, but clearly that wasn’t the case with Octavia and he was glad that they had run into each other that afternoon.
