Ben sat silent, listening. He offered nods of encouragement when it seemed appropriate, but he merely listened without interrupting. he took it all in. A lot had happened in her dreams. He could understand why she was a wreck, after all of that.
"I don't blame you," he said in response to the statement about not telling Richie about all of it. The guy would probably dream it all himself, sooner or later. The shared aspect of the dreams was another weird level Ben didn't know what to do with, or the differences in relationships. Like how his dad wasn't even his dad, actually, in the dream he'd had. That was messed up.
But what Kate had just told him was a lot more messed up that his dad not being his dad. That was top level weird, with the supernatural aspect. Culebros and shit? Ben had no frame of reference for that kind of thing.
"I'm sorry you had to experience that." Because even just having one dream that was more like a memory, he knew how real it felt. Like it had actually happened. Even when, logically, you knew it hadn't.
