Betrayal. It was something Sylvanas had become good at. With the control over her mind and the mind of her 'sister' banshees growing weak, Sylvanas was able to lure Arthas into a trap. She could have killed him, it would have been easy, but she wanted him to suffer. The desire for vengeance cost her a chance, a chance that would have saved countless lives in the future.

She escaped, once again in her own body. To her anger and frustration, she realized that the natural world would never respond to her again. Her body was dead, and her elven gifts were no more.

She turned to necromancy, twisting her ranger teachings to the dark magics, to the new natural order that her body demanded.

Now free, she knew her position was weak. There were only a few banshees and lesser undead to serve her, and the demons she had briefly allied with had threatened an attack.

She built an army, and defeated the dreadlords. Varimathras begged for his life, and she spared him, thinking she could control him well enough for her needs. With Varimathras' help, she defeated his brothers.

Her immediate threat neutralized, Sylvanas began to free many more undead from the Lich King's control. She took the former capital of Lordareon for her own.

They called themselves the Forsaken. And thus Sylvanas became their Queen.
