Who: Jesus Rovia, Jace Herondale, Alec Lightwood & Magnus Bane When: Backdated: Sometime in May Where: Magnus & Alec's Apartment What: Dinner Rating/Warnings: Family Friendly Status: Complete
Magnus was glad that Jace and Jesus had accepted their invitation to get together for dinner because not only would it give Magnus and Alec a chance to get to know Jace’s boyfriend and vice versa, it also gave them a chance to use their rooftop terrace to entertain. Magnus had always enjoyed entertaining, even before he’d become a Warlock which made the task immensely easier as far as decorating and cleaning up went, which was one of the many reasons he was always the one suggesting that he and Alec throw parties.
Once they had decided on a night, Magnus had made sure that their assistant management knew that he and Alec would be off for the night as well as scheduling Jace off then he had started planning their night, making sure to ask Alec for his opinion on what to make for dinner and how they should decorate.
Currently Magnus was in the kitchen, finishing up dinner, which was a recipe that he had gotten from Isabelle some time ago when he had originally asked for help when he was wooing Alec.
Alec was pretty relaxed about the whole thing. It wasn’t like they hadn’t met Jace’s boyfriend before, and it helped that Magnus took over on decorating and cooking. That meant that all Alec really had to do was look presentable but it wasn’t anything super fancy either. So, he just made sure that the wine was decently chilled as he made sure that things were tidy enough around the apartment.
As he walked into the kitchen, he spoke to his husband. “Smells good.” Of course, he knew the scent well enough that he knew what Magnus was cooking. “Did you check with Jace about possible food allergies or certain diet restrictions?” he questioned, not knowing if Paul was vegetarian or vegan. However, that’s what tonight was for. To help them learn more about this guy.
Magnus turned at the sound of Alec’s voice and nodded, “I did. He said that there weren’t any that he was aware of.” Magnus figured that by now Jace would know if there was something Jesus was allergic to, foodwise, so he took his word for it when deciding what to make for dinner. “You look nice, by the way.” Magnus quirked a brow as his yellow, cat eyes roamed over Alec’s tall frame, recalling the various Runes that lay hidden beneath his clothes.
Alec would still blush lightly whenever Magnus complimented him. There was still a part of him that was surprised that someone as attractive as Magnus wanted him, especially when he first had met the man. “Thanks...you look great, as usual...but you already know that.” He smiled before hearing a knock at their door.
“Guess that’s them…” Alec commented. “I’ll go let them in,” he added before he exited the kitchen and made his way over to their front door. He opened it and smiled at his cousin who was accompanied by his boyfriend. “Hello, hello...come on in…” he said, gesturing for them to enter.
Jace was glad that they’d done the double date with Izzy and Simon first. It had helped calm his nerves some. Well a little but he was already guessing that Alec was feeling it through the bond. He squeezed Jesus’ hand as he waited for the door to open, giving him a smile before taking a deep breath. Alec’s opinion mattered a lot to him, always had and always would but they both knew that he’d make his own decisions when it came to his relationships. And that when he made up his mind on something that was it.
He let go of Jesus’ hand to step forward and give Alec a hug. “Hey. Is he cooking what I think he is?”
Having already met Jace’s other cousin and her boyfriend, Jesus wasn’t all that nervous about officially meeting his cousin and his husband. Sure, they had met briefly on New Year’s Eve at Pandemonium, but he and Jace hadn’t officially been dating at that time and Alec had been working so they hadn’t had any time to really talk and get to know one another. However, he knew that Jace was a little nervous, regardless of what he said and squeezed Jace’s hand back, “It’s gonna be fine.”
When the door opened, Jesus watched as Jace hugged his cousin and he smiled as he watched them.
“And what do you think Magnus is cooking?” Magnus asked as he came up behind the pair of Parabatai, smiling.
Alec was more than happy to hug his parabatai. After releasing his cousin, he glanced at the blond, “No wine? We’re gonna have to teach you some dinner party etiquette,” he teased. He looked at Paul and pulled the man into a half-hug. “Welcome to our home.” After releasing Paul, Alec closed the door. “Make yourself comfortable…” he mentioned before glancing at Jace, “And Jace...behave.” He gave Paul a friendly wink before wandering to the living area.
Jace grinned at Magnus over Alec’s shoulder. “The dish you used to win Alec’s heart.” He responded as he stepped back, moving to give Magnus a loose hug too.
He laughed at Alec’s teasing. “Oh I know etiquette. I just figured why bother tonight? And I didn’t know what was being fixed so red or white or…” he trailed off with a mischievous glint in his eye. “Wounded to the core Alec. As if I would do anything where Chairman Meow could give me a judging look.” He joked, reaching for Jesus’ hand once more to lead him into the living room. “Most judgemental cat ever I swear.”
“Jace, you should know by now that we will never refuse a bottle of wine, regardless of the kind.” Magnus was definitely not one to refuse a bottle of wine as a gift, “And yes, that is exactly what I’m making.” He couldn’t help but glance at Alec and smile fondly as he thought back to when he was first trying to impress Alec even when he could barely cook, but had luckily gotten help from Isabelle.
Jesus hadn’t expected the half hug from Alec, but he returned it, happy that things didn’t appear to be awkward, “Thanks for inviting us over. And I told Jace we should probably bring something, but like he said, he wasn’t sure what you were making.” He said as they all gravitated towards the living room, following Alec, “Your place is lovely, by the way. You’d never guess that it’s above a club. I mean, it’s so quiet.”
Magnus smirked, “That’s because of the silencing spells. There’s some noise cancelling materials built around the club as well, but the spells work better.” Magnus always enjoyed talking about his magic, even if others were tired of hearing about it by now, but he couldn’t help it. It was one of those things about him that he, himself, still found extremely exciting even after seven years.
Alec disappeared to the kitchen for a quick moment to grab them all wine glasses. “Perks of being married to a warlock,” Alec commented as he rejoined the group and set down the glasses on the coffee table. He went back to the kitchen to grab a bottle of white wine and another bottle of red wine. “Pick your poison…” he told the guests.
Jace was used to the quiet that filled the apartment even when the club was at its loudest. Magnus’ spells were impressive even to him. He made himself comfortable on the couch, for once not getting a reaction from the Chairman. He leaned forward to grab a glass before reaching for the white wine. “No judgement allowed if I made the wrong one for dinner.” He joked.
“That’s extremely interesting,” Jesus was aware of the fact that Magnus was a warlock and he was extremely fascinated by the other man’s eyes as he was sure most people who met him were, “What else can you do with your magic?” He glanced over at Alec when he came back with glasses and wine, “Red, please.”
Magnus chuckled in response to Jesus’ question, “There’s quite a lot I can do, but I’m sure Alexander and Jace would be bored if I started talking about my magic,” As spoke though, the wine glass he’d been drinking from while cooking appeared in his hand and took a sip, smirking at the obvious use of magic without actually talking about it. “No, Jace, we would not have judged you if you’d picked the wrong wine. Then again, is there any wrong wine?”
“To be fair,” Alec began, looking at Jace. “If you brought a wine that didn’t go with dinner, we’d simply hold onto that wine for another time.” He then poured Jesus his drink. “So, first things first, I must ask. Is it okay if I refer to you as ‘Paul’? While I understand that it’s simply a nickname based on your appearance, I also don’t want to offend you. I tend to prefer being called ‘Alec’ and only let a certain few refer to me as ‘Alexander’...but never Alex,” he explained, as he poured himself his own glass of wine before taking a seat next to his husband.
“Show off.” Jace told Magnus with a laugh as he poured his wine and then sat back, crossing his leg at the knee. “I think the Chairman is starting to not hate me. He didn’t growl when I sat down. Progress.” He said with a shrug as he let Alec and Jesus talk and get to know each other. He pretended to think for a minute about Magnus’ question. “Yes there is - when it’s nonalcoholic wine.”
Magnus smirked and winked at Jace, “Maybe just a little.” He took a sip of his wine as Alec spoke to Jesus and The Chairman eyed Jace from his seat on top of the couch, “Oh, I think he likes you just fine. He probably just senses that you’re not exactly comfortable about him. He was a little iffy around Alexander for awhile, at first, but now they’re practically inseparable.” He glanced at Alec, a smirk upon his lips.
Jesus nodded in response to Alec’s question as he took the wine glass from him, “Yeah, that’s totally fine. I know not everyone is comfortable calling me Jesus. It’s just one of those things I don’t even think about anymore really.” He took a sip of his wine, “It’s just been such a long time and when I got into stunt work professionally, it worked as a stage name, but there are still plenty of people who call me Paul; like my mom.” He couldn’t help but smirk as he listened to Jace and Magnus, “Speaking of names, your cat is named the Chairman?”
Alec gave a slight eyeroll about the comment regarding his relationship with the cat. “You’re definitely his favorite person, though,” he commented at his husband, before glancing at Jace. “And that’s a fair point but you are smart enough to know not to bring that kind of thing into our home.” After taking a sip, he went on, “His name is actual ‘Chairman Meow,’ named after Mao Zedong who used to be the chairman of the People’s Republic of China.”
Jace let out a soft laugh at his cousin’s eyeroll, relaxing and reaching up one hand for the cat to sniff at, leaving it there for him to rub against if he decided. “It’s not that I’m uncomfortable with him. It’s just that I don’t know what he’s going to do at any given moment. I can guess with people. Cats...I have no clue.” He answered Magnus.
“And I know if I did something that stupid you’d toss me out to go buy something better. It’s purely self preservation that makes me smart about it.” He joked.
“I mean, it’s only right that I’m his favorite,” Magnus took a sip of his wine as he watched the Chairman sniff at Jace’s fingers then after a moment headbutted his hand, “Ah, see, he does like you. He’s going to make you pet him all the time now.” While his cat did sometimes take a little time to warm up to new people, once he did he usually didn’t leave them alone, “I don’t know what else you’d expect him to do.” Some cats were temperamental, it was true, but Chairman Meow had always been a very good natured cat and rarely ever hissed at anyone.
“Now that is a creative name.” Jesus said, nodding as he too watched the cat and Jace, “I’ve never actually had a pet before.” He had thought about getting a pet a couple of times over the last few years, but he had never been able to decide what exactly he’d want, “And why would you get nonalcoholic wine? I wouldn’t blame them for kicking you out for that.” Jesus teased, smirking at Jace.
Alec chuckled at Paul’s comment. It was amusing that they were “ganging up” on his cousin. “See...now, you have no excuse to bring that filth around.” He playfully stuck his tongue out at Jace before turning to Magnus, “How was dinner looking?” He figured they could continue chatting and drinking over dinner.
Jace would never admit it but he was actually enjoying the affection the Chairman was giving in return to his petting his back. “Bite me? I don’t know. Cats do what they want when they want just because.” At least that was how it seemed to him. He looked at his boyfriend and narrowed his eyes. “You just wait until we get back to your place.” He teased.
Jesus’ brows rose, an amused expression on his face, “Oh? And what exactly are you going to do when we get back to my place?” Jesus took a sip of his wine as he watched Jace, smirking over the rim.
Shaking his head, also clearly amused, Magnus chuckled before leaning over to press a kiss to Alex’s cheek then handed his husband his wine glass, “Why don’t the three of you head up to the roof and I’ll check on dinner and be up there in a few minutes. I’m sure it’s almost done by now.”
