Who: Clarke Griffin & Raven Reyes When: Backdated: Late June; Just after the Earth Giants Where: A Cafe What: Random and potentially awkward first meeting Rating/Warnings: Family Friendly Status: Complete
The last couple of weeks had been interesting ones for Clarke; first there had been the virus then Stormtroopers and Ewoks had invaded the county for a day then of course there were the dreams and the appearance of a handful of people from said dreams. And most recently had been the giants and weird fog and snow. Honestly, Orange County really knew how to keep a person on their toes.
And then there were the non crazy OC related things like her dad insisting that she come out and visit him in DC. It wasn’t that Clarke didn’t want to see her father, especially after dreaming about him being floated, but seeing her father always brought up so many unresolved things from her parents’ divorce and besides it was always so difficult to get the time off work.
She had just checked her phone to find a few texts from both of her parents as she stepped into the cafe and sighed before slipping it back into her pocket, texts unread. She was on her lunch break and would deal with them after her shift.
The OC was shaping up to be pretty weird since she came back home. Weird didn't even cover it. The fog and snow were new. So were those weird ass giants. Not that she wanted anything to do with all of that. It had been too weird, even for her brain. Someone who wrote novels and a lot of it included science fiction.
She'd told John where she'd be at and had left, leaving him in the capable hands of his twin brother. Raven was glad that Julian was finally home. Back from the exile that his old man had put on him. It made her boyfriend happy and anything that made John happy made her happy.
Raven's focused on the books around her when Clarke comes in. She can't hear the bell of the door when it opens and the blond comes in. She does, however, look up slightly, intending to get up to order a drink, and notices her, staring a bit too long. She's pretty sure that was the girl who had been in her dreams.
Clarke didn’t notice Raven right away, but after a few moments she got the feeling that someone was watching her as she glanced, feeling slightly paranoid she spotted the brunette from her dreams. Of course seeing Raven only reminded Clarke that Finn had kept it from her that he was with Raven before they had been sent to Earth and had Raven never shown up, she wondered if he ever would have told her. Of course Clarke had to remind herself that all of that was in the dreams and there really was no reason for things to be awkward between her and Raven since it wasn’t real.
Glancing at her watch to check just how much time she could spare, she decided to go and introduce herself, because at some point they were all bound to wind up doing something together and Clarke didn’t want Raven or anyone else to think she was avoiding anyone.
Figuring that she had enough time to introduce herself and still be able to grab lunch before her break was over, Clarke walked towards Raven’s table, “Hey, Raven, right?”
For a moment, she wasn't entirely sure if it was the same girl or not. The one that she'd seen inside her dreams. Ones that she wanted nothing whatsoever to deal with. If she could focus on her work, John and his brother then she'd be fine. Of course, she hadn't expected Clarke to come towards her table.
It was a good thing that she could read lips or she wouldn't have caught on to what the blond had even said. She does, however, give her a bit of a smile. "That'd be me. And you're Clarke. Right?" Though, as an afterthought," If you're going to talk to me, try and stay facing me." Everyone knew that John was deaf, but she didn't make it known that she was.
"You look tired."
Who didn’t with the dreams they’d all been having?
If Clarke had had any doubts that the brunette was indeed Raven, they were gone once she was standing by the table. However, she was thrown off slightly when she was asked to stay facing her, but having already met Murphy, she had an idea why, which was extremely interesting since neither Murphy or Raven had any hearing issues in the dreams, “Yeah, I am. I hope you don’t mind me coming over like this.” She hoped she wasn’t intruding on Raven’s time. “Tired is an understatement when you’re a doctor.” She smirked.
The dreams were one thing that slightly annoyed Raven. Well, that wasn't the right word for it. She knew that she wasn't deaf in the dreams. Same with John. In the dreams both of them could actually hear, but it wasn't something that bothered her. She thought something like that would be a hindrance after the car accident, but it wasn't. Thanks to John.
"Don't mind at all. Go ahead and sit, if you have the time," she tells her with a bit of a smile, moving some of her native american research aside. "From what I know doctors work non-stop and are on call practically 24/7." Then as an after thought," It's a bit weird running into people here. You never know if they're from the messed up dreams or not."
Clarke had a few minutes to spare before she absolutely needed to order food if she wanted to actually eat on her break so she figured she was already standing by Raven’s table so she might as well sit down for those few minutes, “Yeah, I have a little time to spare.” She smiled and sat down in the seat across from the brunette, her gaze wandering over the various research that Raven was now moving, “I know what you mean. It’s also interesting that you, Murphy, Bellamy and Octavia all knew each other before these dreams and I’m apparently the odd one out.”
A part of her is pretty sure that she was interrupting Clarke's lunch hour. Or dinner hour. Whatever hour it was for the girl before her. Though, she does notice that the other was looking at the books that she'd moved out of the way. "Research for my novels." Not that the blonde had asked about what she'd been doing.
"I met John when I transferred to the public school after the accident. In turn, I met his best friend and met Octavia because of her being Bellamy's little sister. I'm not sure why I hadn't run into you yet, though."
After a moment," If you're on your break, you should order something. I don't mind."
Clarke rose a brow as Raven pointed out what the things were that she had moved, “You’re writing a novel? What’s it about?” She’d never really met anyone who was actively writing a book before. Sure, there had been literature classes in school where they had had to write short stories and the like, but no one she knew had ever wanted to do that as a career.
“Have you lived here your whole life?” It was interesting that Clarke had never met any of the others before and she would be lying if she said that since she’d started dreaming she hadn’t tried to recall anyone else from her past who she may have met who might be in their dreams. Was it possible that Monty or Jasper had gone to her high school at the same time as her and she had never known it? Could Wells have been one of the many students in the various lectures she’d sat through throughout her college career? She had no way of knowing.
“That’s a good idea.” She pulled out her phone, knowing that this particular cafe had a website where she could place an order and began doing just that so that she wouldn’t have to actively leave the conversation with Raven.
"I've never written a full novel. I want to actually finish one and publish it, though." Writing was a good outlet, as far as Raven was concerned. Hell, she was a special interest writer for the local newspaper. She preferred the facts over anything else. She enjoyed the job that she had. Writing novels was more of a hobby. "Right now, I'm gathering as much information as I can about Native American mythology. There's a reservation that I'll probably go back to eventually, speak to the elders." There’s a bit of a smile there, “I write screenplays too. You ever hear John talking about one he’s been in, it’s probably the one I wrote.”
She looks up at Clarke for a moment, merely watching the blonde. "I was born and raised here. Kind of had it made, in a manner of speaking." If there's a bit of disdain in her voice, then so be it. Her father was some high level banker and her mother was one of California's socialites. They hadn't raised her, her nanny had. She loved Madeline more like a mother than her own mother.
Raven gives her a bit of a smile," Hey, it saves you time. Right?"
“Oh wow. That’s really impressive.” While Clarke had already been a little impressed by the things Raven had done in the dreams, such as finagle an old pod in order to come to Earth, she was even more impressed now, “No, Murphy hasn’t really talked about any of the things he’s acted in. At least not to me.” Although, Clarke would be lying if she said that she was intrigued as well as a little curious about seeing Murphy act. “I think I’m going to have to ask him about it in the future.”
Clarke was fairly clueless when it came to socialites aside from the Paris Hilton types who were all over social media, so Raven’s family was not one that she recognized.
In response to the comment about her mobile order, Clarke nodded, “It does. I should have done it ahead of time, but I was preoccupied and didn’t even think about it.”
"You should ask John about it."
It was weird hearing people calling her boyfriend by his last name. She knows that a lot of people, in the dreams, were called by their last names though. Didn't mean that she liked it or agreed with it. She couldn't even picture calling him Murphy.
She gives the blonde a bit of a smile," Hey. You do what you need to do. You know, if you need to head out you should. We can always get together again later, if you wanted."
Clarke had first been introduced to Murphy through the dreams so she only knew him as Murphy and since he hadn’t told her not to call him by his last name, she was going to stick with it unless he told her not to, “Trust me, I’m definitely going to ask him about it. Make him do monologues for me.” Clarke smirked a little mischievously.
She was about to protest and tell Raven that she still had plenty of time when her iphone buzzed, a message popping up to tell her that her order was already done. “Looks like my food is ready.” She got to her feet, pushing her chair back in under the table, “We’ll definitely get together again soon. Maybe all of us.” She still hadn’t met Octavia in person and had only seen Bellamy once, at the hospital, “It was really nice to finally meet you, Raven.” Smiling, she turned towards the pick up counter.
Considering the things that had been going on with Finn, in the dreams, Clarke had thought that meeting Raven in person would be awkward, but surprisingly, it had gone quite well as far as she was concerned.
