"Then should we encounter pears, I trust you will take care of them. This is all working out rather swimmingly." As soon as it appeared that the other man was game for following, the Doctor continued along his way, pausing only at the curb to check briefly for traffic before crossing. "I happen to fancy bananas—perfect food, anytime of day if you ask me, which you didn't, but I'm offering the information anyway."
With energetic rambling like that, Doctor Smith was quite used to being on the receiving end of "WTF looks". He'd been told more than once that he was a bit odd—though he didn't seem to do much with that information, aside from embrace it. There wasn't a twinge of pity in his tone, nor his expression when conversing with the other man. In fact, he seemed quite delighted with himself for having found company for breakfast.
"Brilliant place, this." He gave another nod as the aroma of coffee drifted down the sidewalk from the small shop just a few stores up. "I love little shops. Outdoor seats, people working with interesting piercings." And when they neared the storefront, just steps from the doorway, he finally pivoted to face the panhandler—hand extended to accompany his abrupt introduction. "Doctor John Smith, though that usually just gets shortened to Doctor. Not about titles, myself, but I've been told it's more unique than John Smith and frankly, I can't argue."
