Bethany had wanted to really challenge her skills lately. The healy ones, not the burny death ones. If she was going to be a mage, she wanted to help people. Like Anders had, before he'd gone all crazy. She just hoped she would never go that crazy.
She'd been unable to do anything for Varric's girlfriend, but she remembered the gymnast who'd been hit by a car. Maybe she could, at least, ensure that Ty Lee would be able to compete again.
So she got out of the cab and walked up to Ty Lee's door, and knocked.
Ty Lee had just finished blinging out her ugly cane and was in a pretty good mood about life in general when someone knocked on the door. Azula'd been called away to take care of something, and she'd had the condo to herself for most of it, which meant that she was soon using said bling!cane to hobble to the door.
"Just a minute!" She called out as she went, cheerfully. When she opened, she eyed her visitor curiously, "Hello?"
"Hi," Bethany said, giving her a smile. "My name is Bethany. I have an..er..unusual offer for you."
She hadn't thought far enough ahead, to make Ty Lee not think she was batshit insane, "It's a sort of advanced medicine."
The gymnast was far too nice a person to just stare at this woman at her door like she was batshit insane, even if some part of her was certainly questioning it. She looked confused more than anything, then tilted her head to the side a bit.
"Advanced medicine? Where did you come from?" Ty Lee questioned. She wrinkled her brow, "I mean, how did you know I needed medicine?"
The crazy woman at the door also had a staff, which she started leaning on, "I read about your accident. And..well..I want to help people. I know this sounds crazy, but I have a sort of power."
So she was kind of like... a wizard? Ty Lee only looked more confused. Wizards and magical healers with staffs were things in video games or on TV. But then again, her lover and a long time friend of hers could both make fire from nothing.
Anything could happen, really, if you thought of things that way. She stepped away from the door a bit, so that the woman could come inside, "It does sound a little crazy. But Azula can make fire, so I guess it's not as crazy as it might sound to someone else. Do you want some tea?"
"Fire?" Bethany formed a brief ball of spiritual energy, that essentially acted like a bright light. She didn't want to burn the place down so she didn't cast any fire spells. Not that she liked to cast fire spells.
"I think I'd like some tea, thank you."
Ooo. Ty Lee reached out a finger and gently poked at the spirit light, like she was expecting it to be a fairy or something and giggle at her, "That's pretty! I have a friend who can create fireworks. She's fun."
She hobbled down the hallway, gesturing for Bethany to follow her, then motioned to the living room. The kitchen was right next to it, and they could keep talking while she put the kettle on, "I have ginseng, matcha, regular london black, earl grey, and this new blend of Uncle Iroh's that seems kind of fall-like with cinnamon in it..."
Maker, this condo was huge. The spirit light kind of tingled. Bethany waved it away, and followed Ty Lee down the hallway. The limp was noticeable and she hoped she could help with that, "I'll try that new blend, it sounds divine."
"It's really good!" Ty Lee grinned at her new friend and got out two mugs, then went searching for the tea blend in question. She definitely had a limp, which was what the cane had been provided to help her with. Especially since she wasn't very steady on her feet these days. Trying to walk often left her very winded.
But she was putting on a good show for this person, mainly because she didn't want anyone to think she couldn't handle herself after the accident. And partly because she wanted to pretend things were fine. It was easier.
"He runs a tea house, Uncle does. He has all kinds of blends there, and cakes too. I haven't been in a while, but he mailed over a whole package of them for me. He's really sweet."
"He sounds sweet," Bethany said, watching the way Ty Lee walked with growing concern. There was more damage than she was letting on,she thought, but she wouldn't be able to tell anything until she tried to heal her.
Someone so sweet and energetic needed to be able to move around more!
"One of these days they'll make marriage legal in California again, and then he'll be my Uncle for real," Ty Lee confessed. There was just an air about this woman that made her want to confide in her. She was good inside. Ty Lee could just tell.
The kettle started whistling, and she pulled it off the heat to pour it into the mugs.
"Oh, I hope that happens! I'm from Massachusetts and it's pretty much normal there now. The only people who really give a damn are the stupid ones."
She took a seat, and asked, "Are you in a lot of pain?"
One of the mugs in hand, Ty Lee made her way over to Bethany and set it down in front of her. She made another trip for her own mug of tea, and sunk onto the couch with it, then curled up a bit. Part of her wanted to lie, but if this girl had healing magic, she probably needed to know certain things.
"They gave me painkillers for it, but I don't like what they do to me. I have a lot of meetings and things, and I can't really afford to be so light headed. But the pain is pretty bad some days. Mostly in my leg. The muscles knot up. It was broken, and it's ... you know, back together now."
Ty Lee scrunched her nose up a bit, and sipped her tea before continuing, "I'm probably being a wimp about it. I've had bad injuries before in gymnastics. Mostly I'm just tired of being so winded all the time."
Bethany took a sip of the tea, closing her eyes in pleasure at the warmth and the taste, "Oh, that's really good."
She set it down, "I'm not a doctor, so I can't tell you why. But I know I can direct the magic. It tends to know what needs to be done. Maybe I can make it hurt less. And help the winding."
"I was..." Ty Lee motioned around to various parts on her upper torso, "I flew up and hit the windshield, after the car hit my legs. There was a lot of internal damage. I'm probably just healing."
"Maybe I can speed it up," She said thoughtfully. "At least the worst bits. I'm not sure I should..rush the healing. I might do more harm than good."
"I think... I wouldn't mind some help with the recovery," Ty Lee admitted, after taking a few sips of her tea on her own. She wanted to think it through on her own, and taking the time to drink her tea helped with that.
"I don't think you should heal my leg. I think I need to let that work its way out on its own and with a therapist. I want to do that work, myself. I need to earn it back, if that makes sense."
"Are you sure? I can make it hurt less, and heal faster." Bethany thought she should at least give a token protest. She understood, but at the same time, she was there and she had the ability.
"Can you make it hurt less without making it heal faster?" Ty Lee wondered. She really didn't want to speed the healing, worried that it might mess something up somehow. Along with her other reasons for not wanting it.
"I don't know," Bethany said quietly. "Lets start with your chest. I think that's more serious. As long as you can take care of your leg that should be fine. And maybe it will make your leg feel better anyway!"
The last of Ty Lee's tea was drained from her cup, and she set it down on the nearby coffee table, then settled her hands onto her lap and rubbed them across the top of her legs a bit, nervously, "OKay. What do you need me to do?"
“Just sit still,” She said, smiling, and getting to her feet. “This might tickle a little.”
