Who: Rapunzel and Elsa What: Date night Where: Club and then a boardwalk When: Last weekend Rating: PG (some kissy face) Status: Complete
Showing up on the Nokk would probably ruin her dress for her date (or at least ruin Rapunzel’s outfit), so Elsa nixed that idea while she was getting ready. But that didn’t mean Rapunzel couldn't meet the Nokk. And her sister, that was probably a thing that needed to happen sooner or later. Part of Elsa wanted to keep both women to herself, but she was pretty hopeful that Rapunzel and Anna would get along really well.
This was not necessarily a good thing for her, though. Not that she’d be jealous or anything.
But they could team up against her!
She checked her hair one last time, then headed out. Their date had gotten postponed but she wasn’t going to let that happen a second time!
Rapunzel was thrilled that their date was finally happening. So much had happened and they had a lot to discuss in person. Rapunzel wanted to make sure that Elsa was actually okay with everything that had happened and maybe address that dire text the woman had sent since they hadn’t had a chance to talk about it.
She smoothed down the dress she was wearing and went to check and see if Elsa had arrived yet. There was a small giddy feel of butterflies in her stomach at the prospect of seeing her girlfriend, but she just rolled her eyes at herself as she wandered to the door. She opened it and caught Elsa in mid-knock with a laugh, “Well, hello there.”
Elsa was totally cool and totally calm, she didn’t need to talk about anything. Nope.
“Hi,” Elsa said, her eyes lighting up when she saw Rapunzel. If there was a sudden little happy burst of sparkling snowflakes falling behind her, she didn’t notice. “You look amazing. You always look amazing, I mean.”
Well, Rapunzel still made her tongue tied.
Rapunzel let out a laugh as she pulled Elsa in and pressed her lips against the other woman’s in a greeting. It was cute when Elsa got flustered because she always seemed just so stoic and put together. The snowflakes didn’t hurt either because it was just so damn adorable. She eventually broke the kiss and chuckled, “You’re cute when you’re tongue tied. So, what’s all on the agenda again? I want to make sure I grab the right shoes.” She had a couple options in mind but she needed a reminder if dancing was the only thing on the list.
“Dancing, and then I was going to take you to the boardwalk.” A nice walk near the sea, maybe some games. While Elsa could, and had, spent time just hanging around Rapunzel, sometimes she wanted to go places too. And as long as Rapunzel was there with her, she wouldn’t feel paranoid. Plus, she knew Rapunzel would really like all the romantic atmosphere.
“Although we could always stay in…”
“Nope, we are so going to the boardwalk, that sounds fun. Is there a ferris wheel? I definitely want to kiss you at the top,” Rapunzel admitted with a grin. She knew exactly what kind of shoes to grab and she felt like her outfit was good enough for that kind of casual evening.
She gave Elsa a quick kiss before she dashed off to grab her shoes, slipping them on, and then making her way back to her girlfriend, “So, tell me about how things are going with your sister.” That was the most important thing going on in Elsa’s life right now, well now that the fog and rock giants had disappeared, and Rapunzel wanted to be caught up.
“There is one, yes!” Elsa straightened, beaming as she watched Rapunzel get ready. She looked forward to this, this wonderful happy thing that she was absolutely positive she’d end up ruining somehow.
“Better, we have a standing lunch date. I’m trying to show that I’ll be there, but I don't want to... “ Elsa waved her hand, “smother her. Which is ironic since I think that feeling was reversed in our dreams.”
“From what you told me, definitely role reversal. A standing lunch date is definitely a step in the right direction,” Rapunzel smiled at Elsa and leaned in to give her a quick kiss on the cheek, “I’m so excited for you to reconnect with her and I’m sure she’s happy to have you around in her life now.”
She finished grabbing her purse and grabbed her keys to lock up, “Alright, let’s get out of here and go have some fun. So, are you going to tell her about the dreams or let her experience them for herself first?” That was definitely a big question.
Elsa couldn’t blame Anna for wanting to regain all they’d lost, she even felt it to an extent. But it was worse in the waking world, all things considered.
So, give her enough space not to feel smothered but not so much as to not make her feel distanced. Kind of a balancing act.
She grasped for Rapunzel’s hand for the walk to the car, just because, though she didn’t answer the question until they were in the car and already driving. “I kind of brought it up to her, but we leaned towards her dreaming mostly and me answering any questions she might have.”
Some things one couldn’t prepare for. Elsa just hoped it might give Anna some insight.
The place she’d found for them dancing was a quieter club, at least as far as clubs went. More to the point it was less crowded than most, which was exactly what Elsa preferred. Plus, it made it easier to show off her date. And as long as Rapunzel was there with her, she felt safe.
“That sounds like a smart plan. You’re a good older sister for making sure to warn her about the dreams. It’s such a jarring experience, so having you around to answer any questions will be so much better,” Rapunzel gave Elsa a smile because she wished someone had been around for her like that when she started dreaming. She was just happy that Elsa was finally getting to make this part of her life feel a lot better.
Rapunzel knew since their discussion that they wouldn’t go out to crowded clubs and she was more than fine with that. It was important that Elsa felt comfortable in the situation and Rapunzel honestly liked having room to breathe when they were out dancing. She tucked herself in beside Elsa and draped the woman’s arm over her shoulder, not letting go of her hand, and grinned up at her.
Elsa hoped it would be enough and wouldn’t bite her in the ass any way, but she smiled at Rapunzel and tried to focus on the good things. Like dancing with Rapunzel and then dancing with Rapunzel later. Sometimes she marveled at how easily Rapunzel could push her buttons.
So she led her onto the dance floor and let her proximity and her body calm her, though she still remained a little terrified of admitting her feelings to her.
Once they were out on the dance floor Rapunzel brought Elsa close and wrapped her arms around her waist. She was far too short to be the one that wrapped her arms around Elsa’s neck. Once her arms were around her she pulled her girlfriend close as the two of them began to move to the music together. “Now, relax and dance with me.” Rapunzel knew Elsa felt a little tense, but she was hoping that the dancing would relax her.
“Okay,” Elsa breathed. And it worked. She felt her shoulders lose their tension, as she melted into Rapunzel. She thought about how she didn’t dance in her dreams, but she was enjoying this because of the company.
Elsa leaned her forehead against Rapunzel’s, closing her eyes and losing herself in the moment. She lost track of the songs, and of everything else and by the time she’d gotten tired of dancing and taken Rapunzel to the boardwalk she was practically floating on air.
The best part, honestly, was getting to hold Rapunzel’s hand in public like this. “Want to play some games?”
“Yes, of course!” Rapunzel replied excitedly. The evening had been going quite well so far and the dancing had been magical per usual. It was nice to have a nice and romantic nice out together. She squeezed Elsa’s hand as they made their way to the Boardwalk and suddenly there were bright lights and you could smell cotton candy in the air, “What are you thinking? Are you going to win me a stuffed animal?”
Elsa looked thoughtful, before she got a mischievous look on her face as though a challenge had been issued and she was going to win it. “Yes! I’m going to win you a stuffed animal!”
Squeezing Rapunzel’s hand back, Elsa dragged her over to one of the games. It involved rubber ducks in water and the trick was to get the marked ones with a little magnet on a pole. They were, of course, surrounded by many ducks for lesser prizes.
Elsa immediately saw how she could use her powers to cheat, but she wanted to win fair and square.
“Oh really?” Rapunzel teased as she allowed Elsa to pull her along to the duck game. Rubber ducks were definitely adorable and Rapunzel wouldn’t mind if Elsa didn’t pull a big prize. It looked like the smaller prizes consisted of candy and Rapunzel wouldn’t object to that too.
She squeezed Elsa's hand and let go so that she could pick out her duck, “Alright, pick out a good one, babe. Win me a cute stuffed animal.” She couldn’t help but chuckle as she eyed the display of brightly colored stuffed animals.
One of the stuffed toys was a golden retriever, and honestly that seemed perfect for Rapunzel. “Okay sweetheart, watch this!”
Only the little magnet just missed the grand prize and picked up a different duck. Elsa pouted, then handed over some more money while candy was given to Rapunzel. “Lets try that again.”
It took about $30, but she did eventually win the stuffed dog, which she proudly held out to Rapunzel as though she hadn’t just utterly failed 14 times in a row. At least there was a lot of candy and one plastic diamond ring?
Rapunzel eagerly watched Elsa with an amused expression. She still gave Elsa a little clap with each round that she “lost”, but really it was a win because she was stuffing her face with candy and wearing that plastic ring.
Eventually Elsa got the stuffed dog that she had desired and Rapunzel’s face lit up, “Great job, babe.” She took the pup into her arms and leaned forward to also bring Elsa into her arms and awarded her with a kiss.
She unwrapped her arms to hold the dog on one side and Elsa’s hand with her other as she kept the woman close to her, “That man is probably really happy you spent so much. Do you want me to win you a stuffed animal now?” There probably weren’t any better games that would cost less to win, but Rapunzel would do her best.
It was a good kiss. A little sticky but under the circumstances that was acceptable. She squeezed Rapunzel’s hand and looked thoughtful, “Well you don’t have to, but no one has ever won anything for me…” So she really wouldn’t mind and it might be fun to watch Rapunzel play a game.
It was fun to watch Rapunzel do anything, really.
“Well with a comment like that it means I have to,” Rapunzel laughed as she tugged Elsa further down the midway as she tried to find a game that she could probably win. She decided upon skeeball and checked how many points she would need for the right amount of tickets to get the stuffed blue bear that was hanging up there.
“Alright, this might take a little bit of time,” Rapunzel laughed as she inserted her coins and got to work on throwing the balls.
Elsa gazed at Rapunzel as they walked, her face and hair illuminated by the streetlights. She wanted to kiss her and hold her and … a lot of other things, many of which weren’t appropriate in public.
Most of all she felt like her heart was being squeezed.
She laughed as Rapunzel started to play, “You can do better than that, I know it.”
“Wow, you’re so rude,” Rapunzel replied with a laugh as she reached back to bat at Elsa, “I don’t need any sass from the peanut gallery or I’ll keep that prize.” She winked at her girlfriend as she went back to tossing.
She finally started to get into the groove and started doing a lot better on her shots. She was starting to figure out how to get more of the middle and better at the ones in the top corner. She got two of those in a row and let out a cheer and did a little dance, “Almost there!”
“I could be more rude,” Elsa suggested, glancing around before sidling up behind Rapunzel and goosing her when no one was looking.
Rapunzel let out a squeal of laughter at Elsa’s actions and squirmed against her, “Oh my gosh, you’re the worst and by the worst I mean the best.” She turned to capture Elsa slightly so she could give her girlfriend a proper kiss.
“You need to stop distracting me so I can win your prize,” She gave Elsa another kiss before turning back to the game. She was so close to enough tickets and threw a few more shots before she finally reached the right number. She let out a whoop and dragged Elsa over to the man who gave out the prizes with the bundle of tickets in her hand. She asked for the blue bear and happily exchanged it with Elsa for her stuffed dog.
“Fine fine,” Elsa murmured, stepping back to give Rapunzel room to actually play. But she was beaming, an ecstatic happiness on her face. Maybe this was the sort of thing she could have done had she not been such an uptight recluse as a teen, but she was enjoying it now.
Hugging the bear, she declared, “I think I’ll name him Olaf. You’re the best girlfriend ever, Rapunzel.”
“Aww, you’re adorable. I need to come up with a name for my puppy,” Rapunzel was going to give herself some time to think about what a proper name would be. She reached over and grabbed Elsa’s hand with a smile, “Alright, let’s go get on that ferris wheel already now that we’ve won some prizes.” That would be the highlight of the evening because it would be so romantic and a great view of the area.
“Of course.” Elsa stepped closer, sliding her free arm around Rapunzel and kissing the side of her face. She looked forward to this even more than everything else; she was having such a good day. “I hope the view is good. At least I’m not scared of heights!”
Somehow, she doubted Rapunzel would be either.
“Neither am I,” Rapunzel laughed. Living in a tower had definitely done away with that quickly because the view was beautiful but it was still a bit weird to be up so high in it. They got to the ferris wheel, paid the man, and only had to wait a few minutes before they were allowed to load in. She snuggled up close to Elsa and grabbed her phone to take a couple photos of them together, “This was such a good idea.”
Elsa made a face in at least two of them, and kissed Rapunzel in another. She settled down after and snuggled with her. “I really needed this. I’m so happy to share this with you.”
Just the experience, the closeness, the view, all of it. She’d needed a night like this with her girlfriend and hoped it proved she could balance her sister being in her life with everything else. Because in no universe did she want to have a life without Anna and a girlfriend.
“Rapunzel?” Elsa nuzzled her, kissing her cheek as the ferris wheel reached the zenith and paused for them., “I love you.”
Rapunzel was happy to know that Elsa was feeling more relaxed during something like this and she knew that sometimes Elsa tended to carry too much on her shoulders. A night like this was something everyone needed - a lot of fun and no stress.
However they got to the top of Elsa said that and Rapunzel felt her heart clench. Her eyes went wide in surprise and all she could say was, “Elsa….” before she crashed her lips against Elsa’s at the top of the ferris wheel.
Blurting those words out had not been Elsa’s plan for the evening. If anything she’d planned on keeping them in forever and ever, simply out of an abundance of caution, as if keeping it in would mean she’d never risk being hurt. But the view was amazing and the night so relaxing and romantic that it had just slipped out.
For half a second it felt like she was falling, then Rapunzel was kissing her, and she fell back against the edge of the cabin, wrapping her arms around Rapunzel as she returned the kiss fervently.
