Diving back into rehearsals was both wonderful but also a bit tiring. Mostly it had just been a longer stretch of time than Marguerite was used to between shows and while she had been working on songs, there was something different about doing so on her own and having to dive into rehearsals. Even for something she still knew in her bones. So what did that mean?
Caffeine.
With her order given, the actress went over to the waiting area and was fiddling on her phone, scrolling through Pimpernel Outreach emails. It was time again for there being not enough hours in the day.
Winn practically lived on coffee and sometimes energy drinks. He tried to stick to coffee, but when he needed a little extra boost? Energy drinks it was. Like when Mr. Xanatos made him work later, or come in on his day off. Today though he was sticking to coffee.
After placing his order Winn went over to the area to wait, pulling out his phone to go over emails from work. He spotted the woman next to him doing the same thing. “Good as time as any to get a jump in the day,” Winn commented with a smile before turning his attention back to his phone.
Hearing a voice beside her, Marguerite blinked and looked up. Only to do a double take.
“Jeremy? When did you get in town and why didn’t you tell me you were going to be here?”
If she were a bit more conscious, a bit less tired, she might have realized that his style of dress wasn’t similar to Jeremy’s nor the way he held himself. And he probably would have said something else entirely. But between still needing to wake up and just the shock of seeing ‘Jeremy’? Well. It was taking a moment.
Winn’s brow furrowed. That definitely wasn’t his name. He had never been mistaken for someone else before, but he supposed it was a fairly common thing. “Uh, no. Sorry. I’m uh Winn,” he replied scratching the back of his head awkwardly.
Blinking in embarrassment, Marguerite quickly shook her head some, “Clearly a sign that I am in desperate need of caffeine. I’m sorry.” Really she was used to the fact that people had a strange ability to look like those she knew. Such as her husband looking exactly like Aaron Tveit. So someone named Winn looking exactly like Jeremy Jordan? Not the strangest of occurrences. And one she would have normally been much more aware of.
“It’s fine,” Winn assured with that large, slightly goofy, smile of his. “I mean that’s why we are here, right? Not sure I could survive the day without caffeine.” Hell it was a miracle he was even somewhat functioning now. He probably should start having a cup before he left his apartment. Even if he was going to go buy a sugary sweet latte as soon as he left, before heading into the office.
Definitely not Jeremy. Honestly it was mostly in the way he held himself and how he dressed. Still, no harm was done. It was an innocent case of mistaken identity due to a lack of caffeine, “This is very true.” Smiling some, the actress shook her head, “It depends on the day for me. But today is definitely a day where I need it.”
“Long night?” Winn asked, given her explanation. It was the obvious assumption. And given the whole mistaken identity thing, it seemed only polite to keep the small talk going. Prove there were no hard feelings. Plus it beat checking his work emails. He spent way too much time on work as it was.
It did make sense. And given Marguerite was social by nature? She didn’t mind going along with the small talk. It really was better than checking emails for work. Oh it was important work but still, she would be deep in the weeds once at Pimpernel Outreach. “Indeed. Rehearsals can be rather intense, even when it’s a show you’re familiar with.”
“You’re an actress?” Winn asked. Not that he would know much of anything she was in. Given the show comment it sounded like she did stage performances. Winn had never been to a play or a musical. He mostly stuck to science fiction or action movies, sometimes comedies, when he made time to go out at least. He tended to spend a lot of his free time playing video games.
“I am actually. When I’m not doing that, I’m working at a nonprofit my husband set up to help people get out of abusive situations. But my passion has always been the stage.” Folding her hair behind her ear, Marguerite contemplated Winn, “What about you, what do you do?”
Him not knowing the shows she did wasn’t too shocking, after all it wasn’t like theatre was as well known as movies or television shows and not everyone’s cup of tea. Then again, Marguerite didn’t act for the recognition, she did it because she often felt the most alive on the stage.
“Sounds like you stay pretty busy,” Winn commented. Though he did have to admire her work with a non profit. The world needed more people like that. Hell he should probably do more himself. “I uh work in cyber security,” he replied in answer to her question. “Not exactly as exciting as acting,” he gave a small shrug. “Or as uh noble as working with a non profit.” Especially for people in abusive situations.
“I probably wouldn’t know what to do with myself if I didn’t.” Smiled some. But nodded at his answer about cyber security, “Perhaps not, but it’s still important work.” Well depending on where one did cyber security. But it was still important given the nature of the world and more actors who would turn off light grids or use technology to cause harm.
“Thanks,” Winn said, giving her a small smile. “I like to think so.” Couldn’t have Mr. Xanatos’s work getting in the wrong hands after all. Though maybe if he knew all the ulterior motives behind some of Xanatos’s inventions he might think differently. Like The Oracle. Which was probably why Mr. Xanatos didn’t fill Winn in on all the details. Not that it was even part of his job anyway. “What’s the non profit you work at?”
“We all have our place in the world, it’s just knowing and finding it.” Smiled. Of course, Marguerite was also very much of the live your life fully and didn’t think anything should be taken for granted. Everyone had a place after all. As for the question? “Pimpernel Outreach.”
Winn would keep that in mind. Just in case he had the time to help out with a non profit down the road. Even if it wasn’t the one this woman’s husband owned she might know of some other ones that could use help. But then his name was called. He went to grab his drink, walking back over to Marguerite on his way out. “It was nice meeting you.” Even if he wasn’t who she was originally looking for.
“You as well.” Smiling some, Marguerite then heard her name called and went to get her drink before heading out for the start of yet another day.
