Liz awoke with a start, the dream so fresh in her mind that for a moment the feelings felt so real; her anger at Max for keeping the truth of Rosa’s death from her. Her anger at Isobel for being the one who had killed Rosa and even anger at Michael for being part of it. Her anger was justified, but in the dreams. Not in the real world. However, as the dream began to fade, so did her anger at her friends.
Taking a deep breath, Liz ran a hand through her long, dark hair and glanced towards Max who was sleeping beside her and reminded herself that the dreams weren’t real and that Rosa was alive and that she loved Max.
However, she was also reminded that some things bled over to the real world which caused her to recall the end of her dream and Isobel’s blackouts and what that could potentially mean for her boyfriend’s sister in the waking world.
He’d felt her tossing and turning and then the sharp intake of breath as she woke. And, though his eyes remained closed, one hand stretched out to rest over hers.
“Are you alright?” He questioned, voice soft. The minute he got even an inkling that she wasn’t, he’d be wide awake.
Liz hadn’t realized that Max had woken up and she felt a little bad about waking him, “Yeah. Just dreams.” Picking up his hand, she shifted and laid back down, snuggling up next to Max, moving his arm so that it was now wrapped around her, “We can’t seem to catch a break no matter what we do.” Did she tell Max about Isobel’s blackouts? She didn’t want to worry him unnecessarily if neither him or Isobel had gotten to that point yet.
Eyes slid open the minute she moved his hand, wrapping his arm around her as she laid back down. “Do you want to talk about if?” Regardless of whether or not they were dream world concerns, Max knew how easily the feelings could bleed over.
Liz sighed and turned into Max a little more, relishing his warmth and the fact that she felt extremely safe with him, “Oh, you know. The usual. I’m mad at you guys cause of Rosa so I do something stupid.” Liz was quiet for a moment before speaking again, “Has Isobel ever had blackouts? Like, she was missing time?”
“Here or in the dreams?” Max questioned, one hand trailing comfortingly you and down her arm. “Because it’s different. I haven’t seen anything here and she hasn’t mentioned it. But in the dreams…. At least once.” She had no memory of killing Rosa after all.
Liz nodded as best as she could from her position lying beside Max, “Just...watch her. It happens again, in the dreams, and we don’t know how much of that could bleed over.” If whatever was going on with Isobel in the dreams bled over into real life, Liz wanted to be able to handle it was early as possible. She wouldn’t want Isobel to suffer through any of that longer than she needed to.
“I will,” Max promised. “It annoys her but I keep an eye on her.” He glanced down with a bit of a smile. “On you, too.” The two women that he cared about most in the world. It made a certain amount of sense that he would be incredibly protective of them.
Liz smiled and tipped her head a little so she could see Max better, “I appreciate it. We can’t be too careful here.” Liz honestly didn’t know which world was crazier now; the real world or the dream world.
“My thought exactly.” He smiled down at her. “Thanks for being more accepting of it than Isobel.” His sister hated the thought that Max was looking out for her.
“I mean, I can definitely take care of myself, but it can’t hurt to have someone else keeping an eye on you just in case,” Liz moved so that she could press a kiss to Max’s lips, “We should probably get back to sleep.” Otherwise they risked staying up all night talking and while Liz didn’t mind those night’s she was quite tired.
Smile widened against her lips as he returned the kiss, humming in agreement. “Sleep,” Max confirmed. “And I’m here if you have any more of those bad dreams.
