It had been a great session, the weather was perfect, the class was perfect and Hayley was saying goodbye to a few regulars as the class was packing up and leaving. She had waved to a few people, then turned around to pack up her own items. Once her matt was in her bag, she turned back to the sand, making sure nothing was left behind or any litter was laying about.
Thankfully nothing was amist and she grabbed her bag, turning to head to the path heading to the car and that’s when she saw him. “Jackson?,” she said as the bag fell from her hand, spilling on the sand. Other people who were in her dreams were in the OC, but Jackson was her husband in her dreams, she had given everything up to be with him and solidified their pack.
“Jackson?” she said louder, as she waved to him and Liz, one of the ladies from her class.
Max had made plans with Liz to pick her up from the yoga class and go out to breakfast. Since they’d confessed feelings for one another, they’d been trying to do a better job of seeing one another more often, or as often as they could without life getting in the way.
He’d just greeted Liz, leaning in to kiss her cheek when he heard the name being called. And though he’d ignored it the first time, the second call caught his attention, Max looking to see if someone needed help. What he saw was Hayley looking right at him. And calling him a different name. It actually rang a bell from his volunteer work at Pimpernel Outreach.
“Max,” he corrected, stepping forward, hand outstretched. “Max Evans. Nice to meet you.”
It had been almost a year since Liz had been going to Crescent Yoga on and off and she could easily say that the sunrise beach classes were her favorites. Liz was an early riser regardless of what she was doing and she loved the beach and of course the yoga helped her to relax for the remainder of the day so she had jumped at the chance to attend the sunrise classes again. She had even told Maria about them, which gave her and her best friend the chance to spend some time together a few mornings a week.
This morning Maria couldn’t make it so Liz had seen a perfect opportunity to plan breakfast with Max after the class. Upon meeting Max in the parking lot, Liz was about to ask if he wanted to go to her family’s diner or somewhere else for breakfast when Hayley appeared, looking like she’d seen a ghost and calling Max by a different name, “Hayley, this is my boyfriend. Max, this is Hayley. She’s my yoga instructor.”
It took a moment for Hayley to get her bearings, “Apologizes,” she said instantly, her cheeks flushed, “You just….” how could she even explain this, she took his hand to shake it and released it, “You look like someone in my dreams that I’m married too, dream wise.” There, that was the jest of it, “it’s a pleasure to meet you Max Like Liz said, I’m Hayley, Hayley Marshall.”
She offered a kind smile, “I also own the studio,” she added to Liz’s introductions. “It’s nice to meet you.” Hayley felt so embarrassed, “again, sorry.”
Max shook his head. “No need to be embarrassed. It’s not the first time actually. I volunteer my services at Pimpernel Outreach - I’m a lawyer. The first time I met Freya she looked like she saw a ghost.” Not too terribly different from the way Hayley had looked actually.
“I’m sorry I’m not Jackson.”
For Liz’s part she was extremely amused by the entire situation and understood why Hayley had looked so shocked at seeing Max at first, “There’s someone else out there that looks like Max? That’s amazing.” Liz would also be lying if she said that her scientist brain wasn’t wondering if Max and this Jackson had any similar genes or DNA; of course it was a hypothetical question since Max was the only one who, at the moment, they knew was a real person, but Liz couldn’t help it. “I’ve heard that some people have ended up with doppelgängers, sort of.”
Hayley nodded her head “Freya is from my dreamworld as well,” she explained so she could understand why she looked at him that way, but honestly Hayley shouldn’t be surprised since she shared the face with Freya's girlfriend when she first moved here.
“It’s true I had someone who looked like me till she moved away.” Still looking at him was uncanny, he looked just like him, down to the style of his stance.
“It’s kinda creepy,” Max confirmed. “I thought Freya was going to drop dead of a heart attack when she saw me the first time. You got the same look.” But he offered Hayley a gentle smile. “Maybe Jackson will show up here eventually.”
Liz’s science brain once again wanted to chime in, asking how many people Hayley had known who had face twins, but that wasn’t what was important right now. Maybe she could figure out some sort of test or something later on, if she came across a pair of face twins, but now was not time to bring all of that up.
Instead, she nodded in response to Max’s statement, “Yeah, who's to say Jackson won’t show up someday?” Honestly though, the thought of another guy who looked like Max, being around blew Liz’s mind a little bit. Could the OC handle that much hotness? Liz wasn’t sure.
Hayley nodded her head, “Her girlfriend looked like me, so that was a bit odd,” she admitted, but she chuckled softly, “I always meant to pick on her, but slipped my mind.” She looked over at Liz, “true, he might be out there somewhere…” she shrugged her shoulders, unsure if she would even want him to appear. Especially since she was very happy with Elijah unlike the turmoil in her dreams.
“I don’t want to keep you two,” she said with a smile, “It was nice to meet you,” she told Max then turned to Liz, “Hope to see you next week.”
“Nice to meet you, too,” Max nodded. He was just glad neither Hayley nor Liz were trying to pull him into the classes as well.
