Who: Poe Dameron & Michael Guerin
When: Backdated: Saturday, June 6th. Afternoon
Where: A Plane
What: Poe takes Michael on a flight for his first date
Rating/Warnings: Family Friendly
Status: Complete
Sure, Poe could have simply taken Michael flying without it being a date, but ever since the other man had said he’d never been on one it had been on Poe’s mind and besides, he liked Michael and wanted to do something with him that wasn’t just them going to a bar or drinking at Poe’s house. He wanted to show him a good time, but didn’t think Michael was the regular dinner date kind of guy and after the flying lesson on the base, flying had seemed like a good idea for a date.
Poe had a friend who owned an airfield and a number of planes and having his pilot’s license meant that Poe could fly just about anything; not that he would try flying a commercial jetliner or anything quite like that any time soon.
So Poe had picked Michael up in the afternoon on the day they had planned for their date then Poe had headed towards the airfield. Once there, Poe’s friend led them to a Cessna 172 Skyhawk and after Poe finished an inspection they had begun getting ready for take off.
Now that they had been in the air for awhile, Poe glanced over towards Michael in the seat next to him, “So, what do you think?” He asked, into the microphone of his headset.
This wasn’t just Michael’s first date. It was also his first time actually being in an airplane. He had never traveled anywhere that required a flight before, hell he had never traveled anywhere at all. He wasn’t scared or nervous though. Just excited. He also hadn’t told Poe he had never been on a plane before. He didn’t think it was that big of a deal. But Poe really was giving Michael a bunch of firsts on this date. Well two, but still it was more than most people ever had.
His stomach dropped as they took off not used to the feeling, but it was definitely a good feeling. He took in all the sights as Poe flew the plane. The houses, the trees, it all looked so small beneath him. He wanted to keep going higher until he could see the whole world, but he knew that wasn’t possible. At least not in an airplane.
“It’s pretty awesome,” Michael said honestly, eyes still looking out the window instead of back over at Poe. “Can’t believe you get to do this often.”
“This isn’t even close to what I get to do,” Poe smirked as he glanced back out at the open air before turning his attention back to Michael, “But I’m not going to attempt a barrel roll in this thing. I mean, I could, but I’m not going to.” While it was an easy maneuver, Poe had done that in a jet and Black One; he wasn’t as familiar with the handling of the Cessna as he was with the other two.
“Aren’t you supposed to try and impress someone on a date?” Michael countered grinning even though his eyes were still out the window. Not that this wasn’t already impressive enough, but still Poe didn’t have to know that. Especially now that he mentioned the barrel roll. How could he expect Michael to not want to experience it?
Yes, one was supposed to try and impress someone on a date and so far Poe was fairly certain he had been succeeding at that, but if Michael wanted to be even more impressed then so be it, “Alright then. Get ready.” Poe checked his gauges and various instruments, making sure everything was good before he went into a barrel roll, despite having just said he wasn’t going to attempt it. It was definitely different than doing it in a jet or Black One, but for the most part it really wasn’t any different.
Michael honestly didn’t think Poe was really going to do it. But then before he knew it the plane was leaning and Michael was upside down. “Shit,” he breathed clearly excited by it all. He was pretty sure no experience in a plane would compare to this one. Or date for that matter. Poe was really setting the bar pretty damn high.
Poe couldn’t help but grin as he glanced over at Michael once he’d righted the plane, “How was that?” He was fairly certain that if Michael hadn’t been impressed before, he was now. “Should I do that again?” If they were in a jet or his X-Wing he could have done consecutive spins, but he definitely wasn’t going to attempt that in this plane. That was just a little too reckless even for Poe.
“Yeah,” Michael said laughing. Not because it was funny, more of a happy excited laughter. “You should definitely do that again.” Whatever Poe was capable in a plane Michael had no idea. Just being up in the air was enough excitement for him. So any trick was pretty damn incredible.
“Shit, the things I could do if we were in a jet or Black One. It’d blow your mind.” Poe grinned over at Michael, happy that the other man appeared to be having such a good time, “Hell, I wish I could take you into space. Now that would blow your mind even more.” He began to wonder if there was anyone else on Valar who had a larger ship besides Yondu. There had to be other people who dreamt about space besides him and Jim who had ships, right?
“Oh, and I almost forgot,” He started, chuckling a little, “BB8 told me to say hi for him. He wanted to come, but I told him he had to sit this one out.” For someone who had never really had a pet or thought about having kids before Poe had become extremely close to the astromech ever since he had shown up in his life a few months earlier and now he couldn’t imagine not having BB8.
Michael finally tore his gaze away from the window, looking over at Poe. “Trust me,” Michael began, grin on his face. “My mind’s plenty blown. Although I wouldn’t say no to space.” With his dreams Michael couldn’t help but wonder more about space, to want to go. Of course he hadn’t mentioned to Poe, or anyone for that matter, that he thought he was pretty sure he was an alien in the dreams. Though he should probably talk to Max and Isobel about it, considering they were just like him. But he didn’t want to think about any of that right now, he just wanted to keep enjoying his time in the plane. With Poe.
“You know,” Michael began. “As much as I like BB8,” and he did. For someone that worked on mechanics for a living the droid fascinated him. “It is nice just to have it us for a bit.” Nothing to interrupt when things got more…. heated. Though that wasn’t about to happen in the plane. Poe needed to focus on actually flying it. And Michael wanted to take in every second.
“Well, here’s hoping I can figure out a way to get you into space. You won’t even believe it.” Poe still didn’t quite believe that he had been there. He was already planning another trip up very soon.
At Michael’s comment about BB8, Poe couldn’t help but laugh and nodded, “Yeah, I honestly don’t mind the break. Besides, it’s not like there’s exactly a convenient spot for him to secure himself in this plane.” It wasn’t like Black One which had a specific spot just for astromechs. Glancing at Michael, he returned the grin and leaned over, unable to resist stealing a quick kiss now that Michael was looking at him. It didn’t last too long though, because despite the open air, Poe did still have to remain focused cause there was always the off chance that they could hit a bird or something else also flying in the sky, “Ready for another roll?”
Michael’s stomach flipped, not because of the plane but because of Poe’s determination to get Michael into space. No one had ever tried to do anything for him before. No one cared. He brushed the feeling aside placing his usual smirk back on his face. “You trying to make me jealous, Dameron?”
The kiss was eagerly returned. Hell Michael almost forgot they were even in the air until Poe pulled away, shifting his focus back to flying. Which was probably a good idea. “You don’t even have to ask,” Michael replied, grinning. He was definitely ready for another roll.
