Amycus was proud of how well the girls were behaving that night at the party. There’d only been a couple moments of bad behaviour early in the evening but then they’d made a new friend and gone off to the kids area and nothing since then. Not that he’d been watching them the entire night to make sure they hadn’t misbehaved. He’d just gone to check on them a couple of times. And maybe gotten Madison to grab him one of the unicorn cupcakes that had been baked for the children. He really needed to get the name of the baker behind them for the girls next birthday. And Regulus’ too maybe. He made his way over to the bartender to get another drink, sipping at it as he looked over the party. This entire party was amazing.
He saw Regulus talking to some of the other members of the Network that they knew and grinned. He loved the opportunities his husband took to come out of his shell and sat down to just enjoy watching the sight.

It was the cupcake that drew his attention first, though he realized as he looked at the man that he recognized him from the comments on his post, the one with the twin girls. He searched his memory for a name, and realized to his chagrin that he had neglected to ask for one.
It was no matter. He approached with a smile on his face. “I hope that you and your girls are enjoying yourself so far?”

Amycus had absolutely no shame as he ate the unicorn cupcake. One of the benefits he figured of being a parent and the head of his firm - the two facts combined to make sure he didn’t honestly care very much what someone thought of him in a social setting. Even with that in mind he still paid attention to what was going on around him so he noticed Xanatos walking up to him and his curiosity was definitely pricked.
“It’s a great party. The girls have even made a new friend surprisingly enough.” He said a proud smile on his face as he talked about his daughters. If Xanatos wasn’t careful Amycus wouldn’t shut up about them once he got started.

“I’m glad to hear it,” Xanatos said. “I wasn’t sure how many other children would be here, but it seems as if there were quite a few.” He’d taken a pass earlier past the children’s room, and there seemed to be a group of them crowded around the magician. He didn’t dislike children, but it was nice to have them all in one area where they wouldn’t be running underfoot, and he was equally pleased that the magician he’d hired had an audience to entertain. It would have been a waste otherwise.
“I don’t think we’ve been formally introduced,” Xanatos said, offering his hand. He didn’t bother giving his name. Obviously, the man in front of him already knew it.

Most of Amycus’ surprise at it was due to the fact that Madison was generally shyer than her sister. But both of seemed to be getting along with Chris, warming up to him equally even though the boy was quiet himself. It had been nice watching the three of them together. He would have to get Chris’ guardians information so that the girls could see their friend again after tonight.
“We haven’t been. Amycus Carrow.” Anybody who was familiar with British charity work or the noble class would recognize the last name. And his own name got bandied around in some of the more influential circles in association with his clients.
***
Xanatos did recognize the name Carrow immediately. He had a branch office in London, and made sure to keep up with all the people he might need to know in England. More than that, he also recognized Amycus’ American work in PR. “Amycus Carrow, of [PR firm]?” he asked. “It’s a pleasure to meet you in person.”
***
“One and the same,” Amycus confirmed with a nod. His recent, official, promotion at the firm to head up their Orange County branch had forced him to accept that people associated him with it that way. “Nice to meet you in person Mr. Xanatos.”
***
“And you as well,” Xanatos said. “I have to say, it’s a little surprising to see a man with your history on Valarnet. Do you buy everything that people post on there? About all the other lives and the superpowers, I mean. It all seems a little hard to believe, doesn’t it?”
***
Amycus gave a polite smile at that question. He could show Xanatos the truth about what people posted but he knew enough about the other man’s history to realize it wouldn’t be the smartest move. Besides - better for him to find out on his own about this place. “It makes it easy to keep up with some of my firm’s younger clients, helping them make career connections by steering them towards the people that can help them most. Plus it’s good for the girls - Regulus and I being able to meet people that live around here with children their age. We can set up playdates and the like for them. And I’ve learned not to count much out as impossible with the lengths Science reaches everyday.”

“I had never thought of it as a way to Network for work,” Xanatos said thoughtfully. “Though I’m sure that it would be more useful in your line of work than in mine.” As far as Xanatos could see, there weren’t many people on the Network that might be interested the majority of his business. However… “You work with plenty of people in the film business, are don’t you? I’m not sure if you’ve heard of my film production branch, Pack Media, but we were hoping to be able to move most of our production here to the west coast. I know we’ve only just met, but I don’t suppose that you’d be interested in helping me make some connections while I’m here?”
***
“It definitely is useful for me. Especially in dealing with certain clients who seem to forget that posting things that might make people question their responsibility isn’t always a smart idea.” Like when Thomas had posted about his damn bear. Not the brightest idea the man had ever had but he had calmed down quite a lot in recent months. Less antics and bad publicity to deal with. “Most of my clients are typically in front of the camera but I have built some relationships with people on the other side of them in order to stay on top of things.”
He’d heard of Pack Media. They were someone his firm’s New York office had been trying to build a relationship with even before his move and now the man himself was standing in front of him offering that very opportunity. He grinned to himself, that little part of him that enjoyed screwing over his former officemates relishing the opportunity to again show them why he’d earned the promotion to the California branch head. “I’d be happy to discuss that with you. Why don’t we set up an appointment in my office where I can lay out better a plan for exactly how to accomplish those connections.”
***
“Perfect,” Xanatos said, the corners of his lips curling into a pleased smile. “I will have someone contact you in the morning to arrange something. But I suppose I should let you enjoy the rest of the party. Is that your partner?” he asked, nodding toward the man that Amycus had been watching when Xanatos arrived.
***
“My husband Regulus. I’ll look forward to seeing you in my office.” Amycus said extending his hand in an offer to shake again before going to rejoin Regulus.
***
“The feeling is mutual,” Xanatos said, smiling. “If you or your husband need anything at all tonight, do not be too shy to flag me or one of my staff down.”
