Poe’s dreams had been becoming increasingly more interesting. General Leia had given him and Black Squadron a mission to find someone who might know the whereabouts of her brother, Luke and of course it wasn’t an easy mission. It had been a mission filled with spies, nearly getting killed by criminals and losing friends. In the end however he had found the location of the person they were looking for and in his last dream he had been heading to a planet called Jakku. A planet that Rey had mentioned before. He couldn’t help but wonder if that meant that he was going to meet her in dreams now.
In the waking world Poe’s life had also been getting increasingly more interesting. He could now understand binary, which meant he could actually talk to BB-8 and not sit around wondering what the ball droid was trying to say to him. He had also hung out with Finn and Rey more and then there was Michael who he had also hung out with a few more times over the last month, but in a very different way than with Finn and Rey. Things with Michael were casual, which Poe didn’t mind in the least, but it had only been a little over a month since they’d met so Poe wasn’t trying to rush into anything.
The other interesting thing that had happened was the appearance of all of the pieces of Black One, Poe’s X-Wing from his dreams. He had no idea if the ship would actually fly, but he needed to put it together none the less. Having spent a lot of time around planes, Poe knew the basics of plane mechanics, but this was so much different than a jet and at first Poe had thought it was going to be extremely difficult to out together, but luckily his knowledge of X-Wings, from the dreams, was also there in his head plus BB-8 appeared to know a great deal as well. Not wanting to do this on his own, Poe had asked Michael if he wanted to help out since the other man was a mechanic and of course it didn’t hurt that it meant they could spend some time together.
So that was what had brought them to the hanger that Yondu had allowed Poe to keep the X-Wing pieces in over the last month. They had spent a great deal of the afternoon putting things together and Poe was glad that along with the sections of the ship, the dreams had also given him any tools that were exclusive to his dreams that they would need.
“I think it’s time for a break,” Poe said, wiping the back of his hand across his forehead and attempting to push back his sweat soaked dark curls from his face without getting too much more grease on him, which was a losing battle considering how much grease was already on his wife beater and jeans. “Want a beer?” BB-8 beeped at him about not drinking too much while they were working and Poe laughed, “Don’t worry, buddy, we’re not gonna get drunk.”
While Poe’s dreams had gotten more interesting Michael had started to dream himself. It wasn’t much. Waking up in some pod thing with Max and Isobel in Rowell, New Mexico. And then Max and Isobel getting adopted while he was left alone in the group home before being shipped off to a foster family in Albuquerque. It had sparked an interest for him though and Michael found himself spending a lot of his free time at the library researching the Roswell 1947 UFO crash.
As for Poe, Michael also found himself hanging out with him somewhat frequently. At least more frequently than he usually did. Michael was a man of many one night stands and random hook ups. To keep coming back to one guy (though there were of course a few one night stands still mixed in) was unusual for him. He made a president of not getting close to people. Max and Isobel were the only exceptions. But for now he was having fun with the man, and the sex was good so he didn’t see the harm in coming back to him on occasion.
Michael had already seen some of the X-wing when he was at Poe’s house. But when he heard the man had gotten all the parts Michael was more than happy to help him put it together. Excited for it even. He had never done anything like this before and he was always up for a challenge.
There were a number of parts he had never seen or even heard of before. Not to mention some of the tools. And yet somehow Michael could still see how they were supposed to connect. He was pretty sure BB-8 was telling Poe if it was right or not as well. Which how Poe understood the droid, Michael had no idea, but since becoming a child again he found it best not to question these things.
“Do you even have to ask?” Michael replied with a grin as he wiped some sweat off his brow. He accepted the beer from Poe and took a long drink. “Well maybe Poe’s not,” Michael joked to BB-8 having no idea if the droid actually understood him or not.
BB-8 beeped and chirped at Michael before rolling back over towards the X-Wing to check on the wiring, “He said it’s not safe to drink and do this at the same time,” Poe said as Michael took the beer from him and Poe took a seat on a nearby crate, “It’s strange sometimes, how protective he is of me, but it makes sense since in the dreams he usually ends up saving my ass.” He glanced over at the half put together X-Wing, “Ever thought you’d be putting together a spaceship?”
Michael would disagree. He often drank a few beers during his time at work. Yeah that was just fixing cars, not exactly building a spaceship. But still seemed pretty safe to him. “I’m better at putting shit together when I’m buzzed,” Michael replied.
“Yeah?” He questioned taking a sip of his beer. “You get into a lot of shit in your dreams?” So far Michael’s had only consisted of childhood. Though he had put up with some shit from the foster family in Albuquerque. But he had seen enough on the network to know people dreamed of their adult lives too, and that shit could get crazy.
“Nope,” he said answering Poe’s question. “But it’s a lot more fun than fixing up cars.” Which was saying a lot cause Michael did really enjoy his job. “Though,” he went on looking Poe over. “That could also be the company.”
Poe took a sip of his beer and nodded in response to Michael’s question, “Yeah. I mean, I don’t go looking for trouble, but it always finds me. In one of my more recent dreams I got a blaster stun to the chest. That shit hurt even when I woke up.” Poe subconsciously rubbed at his chest where he’d been hit in the dreams as a slow smile spread across his lips as he noticed Michael looking him over, “Well, I could say the same for you too.” The fact that Michael was just as sweaty and covered in grease as he was just made him look even hotter, in Poe’s opinion.
Michael’s eyes wandered to Poe’s chest as he rubbed it. “Damn,” Michael commented, pushing thoughts of what Poe’s chest felt like from his mind. Now wasn’t the time for that. “How’d you end up in that situation?” Because even if he did say trouble found him, there had to be something he was doing to put himself in those situations.
“Watch yourself Dameron,” Michael smirked. “I’m starting to think you didn’t ask me to help for my mechanical expertise.”
“We were looking for one of our operatives on a planet of criminals. Someone recognized me cause I had a bounty on my head. Probably thought they could get the credits.” Poe was glad that C-3PO had other droids in his network in the area and they were able to stop anything really bad before it happened.
Poe pretended to look scandalized, “Are you accusing me of having ulterior motives?” He returned the smirk and took a sip of his beer. Of course Poe would be lying if he said that asking Michael to help had had nothing at all to do with wanting to spend some time with him.
It all sounded a bit complicated to Michael. Like why exactly Poe had a bounty on his head. However he chose not to ask anymore questions. It was hard enough comprehending his own dreams which so far just consisted of a childhood in New Mexico where he may or may not be an alien. Poe’s dreams seemed a hell of a lot more complicated than that. He wasn’t sure he’d ever understand Poe’s. And besides there were other things he’d rather focus on.
“Yeah,” Michael said leaning closer to Poe, a mischievous gleam in his eyes. “That’s exactly what I’m saying.”
Michael would be right, Poe’s dreams could be rather complicated and if he had asked, Poe would have explained that the bounty had nothing to do with something Poe did, specifically, but more to do with the fact that he was part of a group of resistance fighters trying to overthrow an evil empire, but since he hadn’t asked, Poe simply focused on the latter part of their conversation, “And, if I did have ulterior motives, what would you do about it?” He asked, quirking a brow and leaning in closer as well, but waiting for Michael’s response.
Michael wasn’t judging the whole bounty thing. It didn’t matter to him if Poe was a criminal or not in his dreams. Hell Michael had even spent a few nights in jail in real life, mostly for bar fights but still. Honestly Poe having a bounty on him, for whatever reason, just made him hotter to Michael. More dangerous.
“Well,” Michael began running his tongue over his lips. He set his beer down on the nearest flat surface and closed the gap between himself and Poe. “I might just have to take advantage.”
Poe smirked as he watched Michael’s movements and once the other man was close enough, he took it upon himself to close the gap between them, one hand coming up to wrap around the back of Michael’s neck as he kissed him, fingers brushing the curls at the nape of Michael’s neck. So maybe Poe had had a teeny bit of an ulterior motive in asking Michael to help him put together his X-Wing, but could anyone blame him?
Michael was totally fine with Poe’s ulterior motives. It wasn’t like he was here just to help with the X-Wing. He returned the kiss letting his own hand rest on the side of Poe’s face. He deepened the kiss getting lost in the lust and desire. When it was time to come up for air he reluctantly pulled away letting his teeth grazed Poe’s lip in the process. “We keep this up,” Michael breathed, keeping his face close to Poe’s. “We might never get your X-Wing built.”
There was something about Michael that made it extremely easy for Poe to get distracted from the task at hand, but he truly didn’t mind. As Michael pulled back, Poe groaned at the loss of the other man’s mouth as well as his teeth against his lower lip and would have simply ignored what he was saying and kissed him again had BB-8 not rolled around towards them and beeped and chirped a few times, “BB-8 agrees with you.” Sighing, Poe leaned in and kissed Michael one more time before pulling away, reluctantly, “I think we’re going to have to pick this back up later.”
Michael was perfectly fine with taking a break from working on the X-Wing to get laid. They could always come back to it later or another day. But he wanted to make sure Poe was okay with it too. After all this was something from his dreams. But BB-8 settled it for the both of them.
“You know,” Michael said after returning the kiss trying his best not to get too carried away with it. “As cool as it is that you have a droid. I think we might have to stop bringing BB-8 around.”
Poe laughed and somehow managed to extract himself from Michael, already missing the loss of his body against his, “Might be a good idea. Then we won’t get cockblocked by him,” He quirked a brow and glanced down at BB-8 who swiveled his head and beeped and blooped before rolling back towards Black One.
With a sigh Michael made his way back towards the ship. As soon as this was done, they were going back to Poe’s place and putting BB-8 in a separate room. But for now Michael was going to enjoy building a space ship.
