Thomas was feeling a little guilt that he hadn’t been able to hang out with Enzo more lately. Between the film and Winie and turning into a vampire - a lot had fallen to the side it seemed. But he had a day off and Winie was somewhere chewing on one of the toys her former handler had recommended he buy her to protect his furniture. And she loved Enzo so it was going to be a good day. He even had some blood, in case either of them got hungry. That was something he was still getting used to keeping in the house - and his housekeeper really had earned her Christmas bonus more than normal this year. Other than telling him to make sure it didn’t go near her vegetables she hadn’t said anything about it.
He heard a car pull into the drive and grinned as he headed for the door to open it before his friend could even knock or ring the bell. “Give Winie about five minutes and she’ll come say hi.” He said, stepping back so Enzo could come in.
Enzo was trying to be a supportive friend, both to Damon and to Thomas, but having feelings for your best friend sucked, especically when that friend was taken by someone else you could see yourself caring for. But, Enzo was determined to make the best of it, not only due to the fact that his parents adored Thomas (and Damon), but due to the fact his friend was struggling with Vampirism and he wanted to be as helpful as he could be.
Smirking he stepped into the house, clapping his friend on the shoudler. “Still can’t believe you have a bear, mate. She’s definitely one of my favorites.’
Thomas grinned back at him, relaxing as the door closed behind them. There had been some tension at Thanksgiving but he was going to go ahead and chalk that up to the fact that he’d still been getting used to his power over emotions and trying to not influence any of his adopted family while they’d been enjoying the day. He was more relaxed today, as much as he loved people small groups were his comfort zone right now, and he led him into the living room.
“You’re one of hers too. I think there are times she actually likes you better than me. You hungry? Thirsty? I actually managed to get some supplies into the fridge. I just have to keep them off the vegetables or get screamed at by my housekeeper. And take my word for it - that is a fate everyone should want to avoid.”
“I’ll take some AB Positive if you have any. Your housekeeper is in the know?” He arched a brow, he usually didn’t go advertising that he was a vampire, only a select group of people not from his world knew about it. “How is that going for you? How has she not freaked out and run screaming for the hills yet?”
Meanwhile his hand gently rubbed the cub behind the ears. “You’re a good girl. I’d take you home with me if I could, but I think you’d eat my dog and two kittens.”
“I might be able to find a bag for you.” Thomas said with a grin. He hadn’t settled on a preference of his own yet so he tended to have a variety of types in the fridge. Plus his friends should be able to grab a snack if they wanted while they were all here. “I’ve found it impossible to keep secrets from her over the years. She’s...been through a lot with me. I take care of her and her family and she looks after me and puts up with my insanity. She was more freaked out by Winie than my becoming a vampire. And takes the blood bags being here as proof I’m not going to chomp down on her one day.” He explained, watching Winie absorbing all the affection Enzo was giving her.
“I think the dog at least would be too furry for her to eat.” He joked. “And I’d miss her too much if you took her with you. Although she’d probably go. Especially if you promise her daily head rubs like that.”
Enzo admired that loyalty that the housekeeper had towards Thomas. It was the type of loyalty given if you only truly respected someone. Enzo hoped he found that one day.
“I can do that,” he said with a laugh. “If she’s lucky, she might even get some belly rubs, because she’s such a good girl,” he looked up at his friend with a smile. “I never got to hear the full story on how you ended up getting to keep her full time. There are so many questions...like...where she she sleep? Where does she do her business? What does she eat?”
Winie was leaning against Enzo, obviously enjoying the fact that Thomas wasn’t telling her to be careful or not lean so much. One good thing about vampires? They were stronger than average so he wasn’t so worried about her weight hurting his friend. “Well you saw how close she and I got on set during filming. Her handler was concerned that she wouldn’t be able to bond as easily with another actor on another project and she’s always lived with people so he didn’t think she’d adjust to a wildlife reserve as easily as people might think. He bottle fed her for God’s sake so she’s never fended for herself. He took her to see a couple people with projects coming up and she didn’t warm up to them at all so he and I talked about it and decided that the best bet would be me bringing her home. We got the paperwork all filled out, she’s registered to me, living out here makes it easy and you saw where the walls are double secured now. Our girl is perfectly safe living out here and so are the neighbors with how much distance there is between my property and theirs.” Thomas said with a shrug as he went towards the kitchen to grab blood for each of them from the fridge.
He came back into the living room and sat down, tossing the bag to Enzo easily as he made himself comfortable. “Wasn’t sure you’d want it warmed or not. If you do - snack microwave is behind you in that cabinet. Popcorn for movie nights or whatever led to it being put there. As for what she eats - anything she wants really. I don’t have a lot of use for human food anymore other than just enjoying the experience but she does, the housekeeper fixes meals for her, usually whatever she made for me only not as cooked and put into a bowl. She sleeps wherever she wants in this place which for naps frequently is by the pool but bedtime she really seems to prefer the room across from mine which I cleared out most of the furniture from except for some stuff for her to chew on and play with and a mattress to sleep on. But she’s got her toys all over the place. And for her business - be careful where you step if you go out back. She just goes out back to do her business. And the gardener refuses to clean it up except for once a week. And I’m not pushing my luck with him on that.”
“It sounds like you have the perfect life, don’t you baby girl, don’t you?” Enzo smirked rubbing the bear cub behind the ears. “You’re just a spoiled little Princess that everyone loves. Uncle Enzo is going to have to spoil you rotten, yes he is,” he couldn’t help it as he placed a big loud kiss on top of Winnies head. He was a sucker when it came to animals.
“So whats next on the agenda for you? Once you settle into vampirisim more? Do you have any gigs lined up? You know you can always come work with Damon, Kol, and I, if you wanted. I’m sure we’ll be opening up a 4th club soon enough.”
Thomas couldn’t help but grin as he watched his friend loving on the cub. “Everyone who meets her loves her. And I can’t blame them one bit. She’s the absolute sweetest animal I’ve ever met. And at the same time one of the most dangerous under the wrong conditions. And I’m never going to let anyone put her in those.” He sipped at his bag.
“I haven’t decided yet what I’m going to do once acting isn’t on the table anymore. I can only claim good genetics and following the right skin care regimen staying young for so long after all. There’s another couple scripts I’m looking at for once my Byron project is done but after that...I might need to retire from acting. Which will suck but - I’ll go out at the top right?” He’d worked his way there and loved it but he had to look at the future more than he ever had. “You sure they wouldn’t mind me just tagging along for a fourth club if I decide I want to?”
“I don’t think they’d mind,” Enzo shrugged, “of course that’s a conversation between you and Damon, but I don’t think it wold be an issue. Especially if we open up a bar on the east coast, we already have to travel to Vegas, if we have to travel to say...New York too, we are going to need more people on the team to get it done.”
“And when you’re gone, I can babysit this little sweetheart,” Enzo said with a smile, rubbing the cub behind her ears. “Good girl. Good Winnie,” he cooed.
“I’ll run it by him if I see an opening. If I do come on board - you going to teach me what I need to know about having a club?” Thomas asked, raising one brow as he watched his friend loving on the cub. And her just loving the attention. “I’m thinking anytime I’m out of town she might just have to stay with Uncle Enzo. He’s the only one who knows all her spots for rubs I know.” He said, voice pitched low as he talked to his bear.
“Uncle Enzo would have to come over here to watch her, I don’t trust this little miss with my two kittens and my dog,” he said with a smile. “She wouldn’t mean to hurt them, but she would eat the cats. As for owning a club, Damon, Kol and I would teach you everything you need to know,” he assured the man. “Damon and I didn’t know anything about a club, I had restaurant experience because Ma and Dad used to own a restaurant growing up, and had Ciao Bella. But a club is vastly different.”
“You’re welcome over anytime and you know it. And...you’re right. She wouldn’t mean to hurt them but accidents happen. She hasn’t eaten Dionysus yet but then he hasn’t eaten her either. It’s a standoff with those two sometimes.” A rather amusing to watch standoff. “I’ll keep it in mind. Talk to Damon and I should probably talk to Kol more. I just don’t seem to run into him as often as I did you two.”
“He’s busy being a single dad. We need to get that guy a girlfriend, he lost his finacee in child birth 3 and a half years ago. It’s time,” he shook his head, rubbing Winnie behind the ear. “Maybe you should babysit Mare so we can find Kol a girlfriend? Yes you do,” he rubbed the bear behind the ears, all animals loved a good ear rub, right? “Anyway, think about the bar idea. Damon might tear me a new ass for meddling, but,” he shrugged. “I think it’d be a great idea.”
